To think prawn cocktail are not a core flavour of crisp

What is this madness? Walkers classic multipack have ready salted, cheese and onion, salt and vinegar and prawn cocktail. The meaty multipack have smoky bacon, roast chicken, cheese and onion and prawn cocktail. I question the inclusion of cheese and onion in both a little but at least it is one of the holy trinity of flavours. Prawn cocktail though? AIBU or have Walkers lost the plot?

Before anyone asks yes, I do have more important things to worry about but still!

I've just seen Seabrook are pulling the same stunt only without the cheese and onion duplication. The world's gone mad!

Correct. PC are lovely, but a whimsical, flighty choice of crisp. Not a staple.

WhyamIinahandcartandwherearewegoing · 01/11/2025 14:34

Cheese and onion in a meaty multipack is downright rude

What happened to beef and onion? It's insanity.

What?! Prawn cocktail is the best flavour! It was my favourite back in my teens, around 50 years ago, and always was a core flavour, along with cheese & onion and salt & vinegar, so YABmassivelyU!

Kago2790 · 01/11/2025 14:36

They are fourth most classic imo. So they should be in a classic pack with four flavours.

Exactly. Prawn cocktail have their place in the crispy rainbow of flavours but double billing in the multipacks? Surely not!

The weird fringe of the crisp world.

NamelessNancy · 01/11/2025 14:41

They are a tier two flavour alongside smoky bacon. Perfectly lovely in their own place.

Prawn cocktail have always been a core flavour.

If you don’t like them, fine. I don’t like cheese and onion, couldn’t even eat one, but I have to grudgingly admit their core status (would probably not admit it if I was in that sort of argumentative mood!)

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 01/11/2025 14:43

my favourite crisps are prawn cocktail. Seabrooks especially!!

Lambington · 01/11/2025 14:44

Utter nonsense. Most normal people would choose Prawn Cocktail over Ready Salted or Salt and Vinegar.

DistractMe · 01/11/2025 14:45

IMHO the classic pack should be Ready Salted, Cheese and Onion, Roast Chicken (or maybe Smokey Bacon)and Salt and Vinegar. Though I really dislike the latter I do acknowledge its rightful place in the canon.

NamelessNancy · 01/11/2025 14:46

Well I refuse to accept I am BU despite having asked the question and am seriously considering flouncing. (I'm supposed to be doing my tax return today so might be for the best)

sweeneytoddsrazor · 01/11/2025 14:46

Why has beef and onion disappeared from the meaty multipack?
Either way Prawn Coctail are disgusting.
So imo are Salt and Vinegar.
This why I buy single flavour packs Marmite, Cheese and Onion, Ready Salted and Pickled Onion

PullTheBricksDown · 01/11/2025 14:47

Prawn cocktail have been around for decades, unlike some of the Johnny come lately flavours Walkers have used in marketing of recent years. So YABU. They're a core flavour. No one says you have to like all the core flavours.

I agree it is not necessary to like a flavour to consider it core and actually quite enjoy the occasional prawn cocktail but only in the right circumstances. They are most definitely a fringe flavour though.

Always have and always will be the "core" flavours. Go back and reread the old testament, it's all in the book of genesis.

I do agree that cheese and onion in a meaty multipack is taking the piss though.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 01/11/2025 14:54

Agree OP. It’s all PC gorn mad these days.

But cheese and onion is not part of the holy trinity. It is the godhead of crisp flavours. Some might argue for ready salted or salt ‘n vinegar as the one true source, but I declare those to be merely saintly.

Meat flavoured crisps are Satan’s skin flakes.

Walkers Beef and onion crisps have been discontinued.

Prawn cocktail is my favourite flavour but I have to agree with you OP they are not a core flavour that should be included in either of the multi packs.

NamelessNancy · 01/11/2025 14:56

See ready salted is the crisp I am most likely to shun but I cannot deny its place as the bedrock of the crisp world. For it to be outnumbered across the multipack series 2:1 by prawn cocktail is just offensive!

100%. This is the correct order and you are wrong on this one, OP. It is weird, it doesn't make sense but that doesn't make it any less true.

Zippidydoodah · 01/11/2025 15:19

Nobody in my family likes the dreaded prawn cocktail, which rules out a whole load of multipacks! 🤢

YANBU!!

SteakBakesAndHotTakes · 01/11/2025 15:23

I'm torn here. Prawn cocktail are my favourite but they're not really spiritually a core crisp - that's part of their charm.

You've been brainwashed! I refuse to change my stance. Sometimes it's important to stand up for what's right and I will not be swayed.

Tier one:
Ready salted
Salt and vinegar
Chese and onion

Tier two:
Prawn cocktail
Smoky bacon
Roast chicken

Tier three:
Things like Worcestershire sauce and other oddball flavours.
