To think prawn cocktail are not a core flavour of crisp

What is this madness? Walkers classic multipack have ready salted, cheese and onion, salt and vinegar and prawn cocktail. The meaty multipack have smoky bacon, roast chicken, cheese and onion and prawn cocktail. I question the inclusion of cheese and onion in both a little but at least it is one of the holy trinity of flavours. Prawn cocktail though? AIBU or have Walkers lost the plot?

Before anyone asks yes, I do have more important things to worry about but still!

Anyone remember hedgehog flavour?

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 01/11/2025 15:26

I agree it was always cheese and onion, salt and vinegar and ready salted in the classic multi packs - but I think prawn cocktail is a nicer flavour than c&o or s&v, so that sounds like a good change to me. They can get the c&o out of the meaty packs though!

TheZanyZebra · 01/11/2025 15:27

I can't stand them, but "prawn cocktail" is absolutely a core flavour, it's always there

coxesorangepippin · 01/11/2025 15:28

Totally a core flavour

Y abvu

You've been brainwashed! I refuse to change my stance. Sometimes it's important to stand up for what's right and I will not be swayed.

Tier one:
Ready salted
Salt and vinegar
Chese and onion

Tier two:
Prawn cocktail
Smoky bacon
Roast chicken

Tier three:
Things like Worcestershire sauce and other oddball flavours.

I do like those Tier 3 flavours - Worcester Sauce, Pickled Onion, Marmite. They have a similar tang to the Prawn Cocktail.

guinnessguzzler · 01/11/2025 15:33

Now you've laid it out like that @NamelessNancy it is a bit more convincing, although I struggle with the idea of Roast Chicken being on a par with PC or Smoky Bacon tbh. I feel like PC is the green of the primary colours.

guinnessguzzler · 01/11/2025 15:34

I mean, the green of the crisp flavours, given green is unfairly ousted from the primary colours, depending on who you ask!

NamelessNancy · 01/11/2025 15:37

Well @guinnessguzzler I agree there's maybe some hierarchy and nuance within the tiers 2 and 3 but 1 vs 2/3 is an absolute truth I'm afraid.

OP posts:
NamelessNancy · 01/11/2025 15:39

It's actually quite worrying really. If the general public can be pursuaded to accept PC has a place in not one but BOTH multipacks what next? It's a slippery slope.

OP posts:
EasternStandard · 01/11/2025 15:40

Yanbu we have a pile of PC because no one likes them

Cheese and onion is equal with prawn cocktail - neither has more of a claim than the other to "staple" status but both are (popular) cultural classics which are generally very unusual in other countries.

So yabu to rank (disgusting) cheese and onion above (delicious) prawn cocktail.

NamelessNancy · 01/11/2025 15:51

Well I've found this thread very illuminating. What a distorted view of reality some of you have. Broken Britain.

I object to roast chicken flavored crisps. I don't know anyone who actually likes them and I cannot see why it keeps being included. They should have a beef one instead. At least that's a much better flavour than the bland don't really taste of anything let alone chicken flavored crisps.

I love chicken! They're one of my favourites. I do see that they lack the status and gravitas of the top tier flavours though. I agree wholeheartedly that beef should be in any multipack described as meaty.

They are my favorite flavour😎

RoseAlone · 01/11/2025 16:27

Prawn cocktail are always the first ones to sell out in our local shops. They're definitely the most popular

RitaFromThePitCanteen · 01/11/2025 16:39

YABU they are the king crisp!

I joke, no they're still extremely popular but the "standard" flavours are ready salted, salt and vinegar and cheese and onion.

firstofallimadelight · 01/11/2025 16:41

Crisps on order of importance

most-
Smokey bacon
prawn cocktail
roast chicken
cheese and onion
ready salted
salt and vinegar
least

but they are the core flavours. I do love beef and onion and Worcester sauce too

firstofallimadelight · 01/11/2025 16:42

MoserRothOrangeandAlmond · 01/11/2025 14:43

my favourite crisps are prawn cocktail. Seabrooks especially!!

McCoys are the best prawn 😋

Therewerelionsonce · 01/11/2025 16:47

M&S still do beef and onion in a large bag but they aren't as good as the original Walkers.
Cheese and onion has no place in a meaty selection ever.
I like prawn cocktail but it's not a meat flavour crisp either.

ChestnutGrove · 01/11/2025 16:51

I think the fact that 6 packs of prawn cocktail are readily available suggests they are a very popular flavour now. My favourite

I hate prawn cocktail but YABU. It’s definitely a core flavour.

Natsku · 01/11/2025 16:56

You're right that prawn cocktail isn't a tier one flavour, but that's because its God tier.

SeaDragon17 · 01/11/2025 17:04

I agree they are popular, although no idea why; they are the Lambrini of the crisp world.

I agree that they are not core though. Core has to be Ready Salted, Salt & Vinegar, and Cheese & Onion. Oh, and only in their basic forms too. None of this “sea salt and cider vinegar” or “mature cheddar & sweet shallot” bollocks.

Tier 2 is definitely the home of the solid but not core support acts, even if many are superior to the core: prawn cocktail, smoky bacon, roast chicken, Worcestershire sauce and beef.

Tier 3 is where the weirdos, the fancies and those who aren’t a normal crisp reside. Say hello to your corn snacks, your sweet chillies, and your Guinness crisps all hang out, like a savoury Breakfast Club.
