If they say that they are sick n tired of the sight of them or find it difficult to clean around them.

Don’t put the tree up early then!

And this bothers you because........?

Brelim · 01/11/2025 12:20

What does it matter if they have them up earlier and take them down earlier? Or if they put them up later and take them down later? They’ll still be up for the same time. I like to out mine up later and take it down before NYE. I surprised anyone would be bothered with when I put my tree up though!

Buscake · 01/11/2025 12:20

Because they want to

PigletIsWorried · 01/11/2025 12:22

Is there any real difference between putting them up and taking them down early and putting them up and taking them down late?

I do mine late because we have a real tree and the needles would drop but really I don't care if people want to brighten up a miserable dark November with cheery lights and decor, it's not really a strange thing to do.

AliceTheCamelHasTheHumpSoGoAliceGoBomBomBom · 01/11/2025 12:22

I do it because it's my house and I want to.

HTH

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/11/2025 12:24

Because they are fucking bonkers.

ilovesooty · 01/11/2025 12:24

People can do as they please.

cramptramp · 01/11/2025 12:25

Obviously they can do it when they want but I always feel sorry for the children of parents who do this. One of my favourite memories of childhood Christmas was the excitement when the tree went up the week before, because it meant Christmas Day was nearly here. I loved getting up on dark mornings and going downstairs to see the twinkling lights. That excitement is lost for children when the tree goes up too early. I also think that for a lot of parents it’s so they can put it on SM.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 01/11/2025 12:25

They are maniacs!

youalright · 01/11/2025 12:26

I don't know but it irrationally pisses me of to.

Is it? Maybe they are excited the whole time it’s up?

ElizabethsTailor · 01/11/2025 12:27

I used to put ours up a week before Christmas and then keep up until 6th Jan “because it was traditional”.

But then I realised it was actually the run up to Christmas in December that I really enjoyed, and it felt daft to still have the tree up in early January when everyone around me was thinking of spring and booking summer holidays.

Because boxing day is still Christmas most people are still seeing family and celebrating November is not

Bladderpool · 01/11/2025 12:28

Most shops and business premises have their decorations up from mid November, Christmas parties and events start earlier every year, it’s only natural that people will follow suit and decorate earlier.

I usually take mine down on the 27th as I’m done with Christmas by then and usually ignore new year.

FinallyHere · 01/11/2025 12:29

It bothers me because the rituals and traditions of advent are my very favourite part of the year. The season of ‘waiting’

km not religious but love all this, cumulating in putting up and decorating a fur tree in Christmas Eve. Bliss.

Don't feel sorry for my kids, they love the tree going up early and they are very excited in the immediate run up to Christmas as well, and I don't have SM.

How weird to feel sorry for children because they have different special memories and things they get excited about.

ItsFridayIminLoveJS · 01/11/2025 12:29

My daughters friend put hers up today.. but has a terminal ill child that might not be here for Christmas.
Don't be so negative.

MrsMoastyToasty · 01/11/2025 12:29

I take our down boxing day evening or on the morning of the 27th whilst DH is at work. Its his birthday between Christmas and New Year and I put birthday balloons etc up instead so that his birthday doesn't feel a part of Christmas.

youalright · 01/11/2025 12:30

I know someone who took it down Christmas day night as soon as kids went to bed absolutely ridiculous had, had them up since November

Devilsmommy · 01/11/2025 12:30

Mine goes up on 27th November as a nod to a poster on here in remembrance of someone and it comes down on 28/29th. I like to go into the new year without all the faff of taking it down. People can do what they like. It's not exactly affecting your life is it really?

I am usually live and let live, but i kinda agree, .im a 12 days before person then take it down on the 2nd, a Christmas tree up for actual months would do me in,

helpplease4 · 01/11/2025 12:31

I put it up early to keep the kids happy, plus it helps with the dark nights. Once Xmas is done with and the kids are with the in-laws on boxing day, perfect time to take it down and have a good clean. Then get the spring candles and lights out while the nights get lighter again. Don’t forget the days get longer again as of the 21st December

Are you not still celebrating boxing day i couldn't imagine all that prep and food just for one day.

Yes. I love the run up to Christmas, but once it's over that's that for me. It just all looks a bit tragic post Christmas.

Why does this bother you OP?

Anonymouseposter · 01/11/2025 12:32

Yeah, people can do what they want in their own house but I do think it’s been led by businesses and shops hurrying everything along to try to make more money. Everything is moved forward. You can’t get Halloween stuff in half term because it’s been moved to make way for Christmas stuff. Personally I think it spoils things and we don’t enjoy the natural rhythm of the seasons as much. I prefer putting the decorations up the weekend before Christmas until twelfth night but it’s a matter of preference.
