If they say that they are sick n tired of the sight of them or find it difficult to clean around them.

Don’t put the tree up early then!

It's also very arrogant to assume that the way you choose to do your own Christmas is 'normal' and others aren't.

This is the point I am making. What is a normal Christmas? What is an abnormal Christmas?

I can answer that everything I do is normal and people who do it differently are wrong. Its as simple as that

Deadringer · 01/11/2025 13:39

My dd does it, its weird imo. Christmas trees are for, well, Christmas.

There's 12 nights of Christmas, none are in November. It baffles me people put them up so early then pull them down boxing day.

Christmas adverts already making an appearance on the tv, we haven't had bonfire night yet! It feels so forced and rushed. Let's just enjoy November.

Sainsbury’s used to put their Xmas ad after Armistice Day or Remembrance Sunday (which ever was the latest) and two years ago, it was shown about 3rd Nov.

It's normal for me and where I live to not take down the tree until Jan.

A big part of this is because my council will not collect them until the 1st week of Jan at the earliest. You can't chuck your tree out on the street 2 weeks prior and block the pavement!

frozendaisy · 01/11/2025 13:41

Our NDN has had her’s up for over a week, H, the teens and I think it’s nuts.

Makemydaypunk · 01/11/2025 13:42

I blame a lot of the ‘influencers’ that a lot seem to follow, all of them wishing their lives away, desperate for Autumn when it’s still summer, then soon as Autumn has arrived they are desperate for Christmas, once Christmas Day is here they are desperate for Spring and the cycle continues 🙄 These influencers certainly live up to their job title.

tinytemper66 · 01/11/2025 13:43

Why does this concern you? You do you.

PigletIsWorried · 01/11/2025 13:46

Because boxing day is still Christmas most people are still seeing family and celebrating November is not

Does it really matter what most people are doing when it comes to Christmas? Surely each family just does what works for them?

SquirrelandPanda · 01/11/2025 13:46

Mine comes down straight after Christmas because my dad died on New Years Day and I don’t like decorations up for each anniversary, I’m sure there are lots of reasons why people do it!

TheCurious0range · 01/11/2025 13:47

I don't mind people putting them up early, it's the spending boxing day taking them down that I can't get on board with. Surely there are better things to do and Christmas is more than a single day.
Ours don't go up until December after DH and DS' birthdays. I have a summer birthday but can understand it might not be great for your birthday to be taken over by Christmas. I usually take them down after new years eve whenever the next weekend is and no later than twelfth night. It's nice to still have the lights etc when you're still in celebration mode, having visitors etc

That's why I said it irrationally annoys me I'm fully aware its nothing to do with me.

Perhaps they take them down then because they want to?

Lastfroginthebox · 01/11/2025 13:53

Perhaps because they love the anticipation but not the aftermath.

I am usually live and let live, but i kinda agree, .im a 12 days before person then take it down on the 2nd, a Christmas tree up for actual months would do me in,

That’s about our timing, too. I’m ignoring all the Christmas advertising for at least a month.

BeanQuisine · 01/11/2025 13:54

My tree will go up the on the eve before Christmas Eve, not a day sooner.

And will come down a week later.

Hereforthecommentz · 01/11/2025 14:01

It's too early now to be putting a tree up. It should be a few days before Christmas in my opinion. We always take ours down boxing day because our child's birthday is right after Xmas so it's up with birthday Decs instead. Each to their own though, I couldn't get worked up about what other people want to do with thier tree.

But aren't people usually doing something nice boxing day if they celebrate Christmas?

mondaytosunday · 01/11/2025 14:02

But I don’t think they do take it Fuen on Boxing Day. The (few) people I know who put their tree up in November leave it up til January. In fact it’s those who put it up just before Christmas that seem to take it down pretty quickly after the big day.

Denim4ever · 01/11/2025 14:06

I don't take mine down until after New Year. We have a real tree, delivered by local farm and recycled by local farm. It arrives mid Dec and gets collected early Jan. I always wish it could be up for longer.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 01/11/2025 14:06

Ours hardly ever goes up before about mid December, but I don’t object to anyone else’s going up earlier. Once Halloween and Bonfire night are over, and days are getting darker, I enjoy seeing anyone’s tree in their front window.

GRCP · 01/11/2025 14:08

Because that’s what they want to do and because they can?

FenceBooksCycle · 01/11/2025 14:12

I prefer to put my tree up no earlier than the 20th, and I keep it up until at least Epiphany although it's liturgically valid to consider it still Christmas until Candlemas which is 40 days after Christmas.

The main problem used to be that it was difficult to get a good tree on 20th December as the shops only have stocks that were felled weeks previously are pretty much dead by then. However now I have found a good Christmas Tree farm where I can choose a tree in November and tie a 'do not cut' notice on it, and it gets felled when I want it and not a moment sooner.

Advent for me, like Lent, is a time of quiet anticipation and contemplation. It's like the hush when the house lights dim before the orchestra starts playing. It enhances the festival to have a defined space of this-is-not-festival before it.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 01/11/2025 14:13

FinallyHere · 01/11/2025 12:29

It bothers me because the rituals and traditions of advent are my very favourite part of the year. The season of ‘waiting’

km not religious but love all this, cumulating in putting up and decorating a fur tree in Christmas Eve. Bliss.

Exactly this. I put my decs (I haven't got an actual tree) up about 20 December and leave them up until 6 January. Christmas isn't over on Boxing Day!

ILoveHolidaysAbroad · 01/11/2025 14:13

Ours will be going up mid November. Very early for us, but we're away from mid November to early December, and will be jetlagged for days after our return, so I don't want that job hanging over me!!

Do you not accept that some people want to take their Christmas decorations down earlier than you? Neither is right or wrong.
