If they say that they are sick n tired of the sight of them or find it difficult to clean around them.

Don’t put the tree up early then!

It's always annoyed me too - and I'm not saying all people who put them up early take them down early and moan about it, or all people who take them down early and moan also put them up early but there's definitely a correlation. I don't mind really what people do in their own homes, but please don't tell everyone you are 'sick of the sight of it'. If putting outside decorations up early, please make sure they are just nice tasteful white lights.

SmudgeButt · 01/11/2025 13:00

The real question is why do people insist on paying stupid money to get a dead tree which is sure to make a big mess that guarantees that no matter how good a cleaner you/OH/hired help is there will still be needles discovered in June.

Fun fact - tree farms need to employ pruners who are different heights and shapes as the trees pruned end up the same shape as the pruners. So someone who is tall and slim will end up with tall, slim trees and someone who is short and stocky will produce the short fat trees.

So 1 day after is ridiculous, but 2/3 days after is absolutely fine?

Who is making these rules up?

Because boxing day is a holiday and still Christmas the 27th/28th isn't most people are back at work by then all the presents are unwrapped the food is eaten and family been seen. (And yes im fully aware some people work Christmas day and boxing day)

OhDear111 · 01/11/2025 13:05

Because they don’t understand the 12 days of Christmas! Who outs up trees now? Not seen any!

ConnieHeart · 01/11/2025 13:05

youalright · 01/11/2025 12:53

But the 27th/28th isnt the 25th/26th like some people i think the 27th/28th is reasonable slightly earlier then me but not still Christmas

It is still Christmas then

I still have mine up then but I dont get irrationally annoyed at people who take them down on the 27/28 like I do people on Christmas day and boxing day

WhatNoRaisins · 01/11/2025 13:08

I can't help but see doing Christmas this way as more consumerist and I appreciate that I sound really judgemental saying that.

Personally I've nothing against gifts and nice food but I really don't like taking the season and just making it into an almost frenzied build up to one day and then a massive mood crash on Christmas Day afternoon when it's "over". That's not healthy to me.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 13:08

@Cat1504 not when it comes to taking christmas trees down i'm not, like I said council collection dates are in Jan.

tinyspiny · 01/11/2025 13:09

YABU purely because what other people do in their homes is their business , it doesn’t affect you in the slightest .

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 13:10

I take mine down on 27th …chrsitmas is done then ….just want the new year to come….want to get tidy …..love the tree up to Christmas morning….once present are gone it needs to be gone….think a lot of people think like this

But Christmas isn't done for many people then. Plenty have dc who are off school, many have workplaces that close, loads see family & friends at this time etc.

Exactly, other people have different lives, jobs, commitments, so do things differently.

You have no idea if its even most people who are done with the festivities and have had gifts and eaten all the food etc. I know plenty of families who can't do their Christmas things until January, and ones who do it all in November. People who work, separated parents who do two Christmases, people who's family live away, bereaved people who don't want Christmas on the 25th so do it on a different day, there's a million reasons why people do things earlier or later.

Some on this thread have their idea of what's normal and declare everyone else as being a weirdo, it's pretty ridiculous really.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 13:10

I do get confused by how many people need to get clean & tidy. How does a tree stop this?

ConnieHeart · 01/11/2025 13:11

I think this isn't helped by adverts for post Christmas sales come on tv & social media on Christmas Day. You hardly hear any Christmas music played after CD & Boxing Day onwards everyone is saying "did you have a nice Christmas?" When it still is Christmas!

holjam · 01/11/2025 13:13

Why does it matter? Each to their own

Parker231 · 01/11/2025 13:13

Beon · 01/11/2025 12:37

Have friends and family who put their tree up first week in November. Moan about it then BD, it’s all put away.

if they put it up later, no moaning

We don’t put ours up until Sinkerklaas at the earliest but it is always without fail down before NY - Christmas is over then.

I know people who are separated (my own parents are), my DH works over Christmas as do some of my friends, people who celebrate later, etc That's all normal, not sure why you have to pack away the tree a day or so after because of those things though.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 13:14

@Cat1504 how does your tree create such a mess?

Parker231 · 01/11/2025 13:15

ConnieHeart · 01/11/2025 13:05

Every one has different opinions and traditions - there isn’t a right or wrong - it’s up to individual families. Is that a problem?

TheLivelyRose · 01/11/2025 13:16

Contrary to popular belief, Christmas starts on the 25th and the Christmas season actually continues right through to Candlemas on 2 February. There's no reason to take your decorations down before the second of february. No, reason to put them up before Christmas Eve.

Anything before Christmas Day is advent.

But then most people don't look at christmas with any meaning. It's just a grab bag for presents and too much food.

Because I'm just commenting on the people I personally know and it irrationally annoys me. Its usually people who get excited to early and can't wait so put them up in November and then are sick of it by Christmas evening or boxing day morning and take them all down. Why the rest of us are still celebrating Christmas. Its very annoying when you are still celebrating Christmas and you have family and friends round and they've spent the morning taking the decorations and stating how Christmas is over now and your still there trying to make it festive still handing out presents making a 2nd Christmas dinner and have Christmas music playing and have organised Christmas games. And they cant even be arsed to wear their Christmas jumpers that they have been wearing this November as Christmas is over.

Because different people make different choices.

It's not a hard concept.

Funnily enough I never see those of us who put our trees up earlier and take them down earlier mocking those who do it differently, the mockery only flows one way.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 13:19

Christmas now is more about advent - the build up, with the event culminating on the 25th Dec.

I don't think that's true at all

By 3/4 January we are all back to work and school and the whole thing is a distant memory.

Says who? Dates change. My dc are back on the 6th this year (3rd & 5th are a weekend for one).

frozendaisy · 01/11/2025 13:19

Our NDN has had her tree up a week already.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 13:19

@AliceTheCamelHasTheHumpSoGoAliceGoBomBomBom

I haven't argued people don't make difference choices or can't make them...
