If they say that they are sick n tired of the sight of them or find it difficult to clean around them.

Don’t put the tree up early then!

Different people do things differently- I prefer to have the tree up late than early because January can be a bit sad but

Are you not still celebrating boxing day i couldn't imagine all that prep and food just for one day.

Mine comes down on the 27th/28th.

We do lots of things in November and December, so it's not a load of prep just for one day.

PuzzlesonSaturday · 01/11/2025 12:35

We love Christmas and have family and friends all around the UK and abroad who come and stay with us over the Christmas period (which for us can start as early as 1st December and end as late as the day after Twelfth Night).

We start decorating the house around mid-November, so everything is up and all the presents are wrapped by 1st December.

If we go away for New Year or Twelfth Night we will take the decorations down before we go, which could be as early as 26th/27th December.

If we are entertaining at home over New Year and/or Twelfth Night, we will take decorations down when our last guests leave.

The decorations are always down by the day after Twelfth Night though.

And this bothers you because........?

Have friends and family who put their tree up first week in November. Moan about it then BD, it’s all put away.

if they put it up later, no moaning

I like mine down before I go back to work as I can get my house clean and reset. Normally take it down 27th as it feels like Christmas is done with then.

My daughters friend put hers up today.. but has a terminal ill child that might not be here for Christmas.
Don't be so negative.

I understand that. 99.999999% of people who put up their decs to early are bonkers.

The reason it bothers me is because it's a shared ritual. Even Christmas day itself is obviously just an arbitrary day, but the fact that other people are also celebrating makes it special. Obviously some people will move things around for practical reasons (my own will need to be split this year), but on the whole I try and go along with the community aspect. I think that matters.

I find the sick of it by Boxing day thing the saddest. That time between Christmas and New Year can be a nice time where you get to enjoy it after the busy runup.

Because it's a silly thing to do if it then annoys you whilst it's still actually Christmas? Doesn't the festive season so on until at least the new year for most people?

Icecreamandcoffee · 01/11/2025 12:45

I have a relative who puts theirs up on 7th November every year. It's their birthday on the 6th so the tree always goes up day after their birthday.

They decorate the entire house - every single room even the downstairs loo and bathrooms. There are Christmas trees in every room (even mini ones in the bathrooms), lights, tinsel, Christmas stuffed toys, Christmas ornaments, those dancing and singing Christmas ornaments, Christmas garden decorations fill the garden, those icicle lights from the roof and round the door. It's far from tasteful, it's more every Christmas themed piece of tat that has ever been made since 1970 to present day. It takes a whole week to decorate the house. It all comes down from boxing day. They do countless Christmas activities and traditions from next weekend.

It makes them happy, it's all about the build up for them. It's not for me, but it hurts no-one and brings joy to them so why shouldn't she? I mean I wouldn't want to pay her electric bill but it's not my problem.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who wants to decorate today for Christmas crack on. I don't have to live with it, it has no impact on my life. If it brings you joy, go for it. With the way of the world, you need to find joy wherever and if decorating for Xmas today brings someone that then good for them.

lol, MNs wouldn't exist if people were not bothered by what others do!

Gamerlady · 01/11/2025 12:47

There's 12 nights of Christmas, none are in November. It baffles me people put them up so early then pull them down boxing day.

Christmas adverts already making an appearance on the tv, we haven't had bonfire night yet! It feels so forced and rushed. Let's just enjoy November.

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 12:49

The bit between Christmas & New Year is my favourite time of year & for me Christmas actually only starts on xmas eve. I don't get why people wouldn't want decor around those festivities but there are weirdos out there & plenty do even weirdo things!

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 12:49

Putting it up early doesn't bother me though

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 12:50

I know someone who took it down Christmas day night as soon as kids went to bed absolutely ridiculous had, had them up since November

I mean 😆😆

cottonwoolie · 01/11/2025 12:52

My council doesn't even start collecting the trees until the 1st wk of Jan (pretty standard for London boroughs) so utterly pointless for me to take it down early.

But the 27th/28th isnt the 25th/26th like some people i think the 27th/28th is reasonable slightly earlier then me but not still Christmas

OSTMusTisNT · 01/11/2025 12:54

My friend takes hers down on Xmas day after her kids have been picked up by their Dad to do Xmas day #2 at his house. She hates sitting home alone at Xmas without the kids.

I take mine down on 27th …chrsitmas is done then ….just want the new year to come….want to get tidy …..love the tree up to Christmas morning….once present are gone it needs to be gone….think a lot of people think like this

So 1 day after is ridiculous, but 2/3 days after is absolutely fine?

Who is making these rules up?

Whippetwonder · 01/11/2025 12:58

I'd love to put mine up today .
But I don't want the neighbours judgement 🤣
I will ,as usual wait to untill a respectable date sometime in December

Who’s to say you are the weirdo?

Allseeingallknowing · 01/11/2025 12:58

It’s still the Christmas season until the new year. It’s sad to take it down on Boxing Day.

Cookiemonster13 · 01/11/2025 12:59

I don't understand it either OP. I would never put decorations up before December although it helps my son has a November birthday so we make a fuss of birthday and decorate for that.

BlossomLeaves · 01/11/2025 13:00

Let ‘complaining about other people doing Christmas differently to me…’ season commence Hmm

SheinIsShite · 01/11/2025 13:00

The whole "Christmas season" has skewed forward. The whole 12 nights of CHristmas and celebrating through to the 6th January is not reflective of how most of us live. By 3/4 January we are all back to work and school and the whole thing is a distant memory. Nobody is inviting people to Christmas parties on 5th January.

Christmas now is more about advent - the build up, with the event culminating on the 25th Dec.

You might not agree with that, or do things different in your house, but that's how most people do things in 2025.
