To find family matching Xmas PJs extremely chavvy

Gcol · 31/10/2025 11:37

They are everywhere! It’s a social media boast thing.
Do people cook Xmas dinner in their PJs?
Kids will be looking back at photos of them thinking it was embarrassing to be dressed in the same PJs as their parents.

You can just dislike the things you dislike without using loaded terms like 'chavvy', you know.

mjf981 · 31/10/2025 11:38

I think its just terrible for environmental reasons. Most of them will only be worn once and then tossed.
Otherwise, I do think it is very cheesy.

Ihgdeyjnvd · 31/10/2025 11:39

I think this falls under something thst you can not understand/dislike someone else doing but as it doesnt effect you at all, live and let live. I dont understand why it would be chavvy. Also whats wrong with cooking xmas dinner in your pj's??

Screwyoucolin · 31/10/2025 11:39

Horrible snooty word for folk you look down on. Says more about you than them.

Littlegreenpebbles · 31/10/2025 11:40

I dont like the look of it myself, but not because I think its chavvy.
I don't think many people are cooking in them, isn't it for Christmas Eve/opening presents?

CarolwithoutanE · 31/10/2025 11:40

We love them in this house!

Wake up, fresh matching PJs, bacon butties while we present swap. Christmas dinner cooking as the drinks and laughs are also flowing.

DH prefers to get dressed for dinner, the rest of us are happy in PJs.

ETA, these PJs are 3 years running now, by fresh I just mean freshly washed. My youngest DD wanted to start it off as a tradition when she was about 12/13 so we tried it and it’s stayed. She’s 19 now, looking at buying her bf a pair for this year.

MJMa · 31/10/2025 11:41

I don’t care about them enough to really hold an opinion on them.

blubberball · 31/10/2025 11:42

Wouldn't be my cup of tea, but I can imagine families with little kids making happy memories in their comfy, cosy Christmas PJs

TheRelevantTrumpeter · 31/10/2025 11:43

They are obviously very popular as all the ones in my family's sizes sold out weeks ago.

GarlicBreadStan · 31/10/2025 11:44

I'm nothing like a chav, yet I love matching Christmas pyjamas. Me and my mum still wear ours regularly, not just during Christmas, and we got ours nearly 2 years ago 😂 maybe instead of using the word "chavvy" you could say "I dislike this" or, better yet, you could stop giving a toss about what other people do if it doesn't affect you

AsburyPark · 31/10/2025 11:45

My 5 year old wants the four of us in matching pyjamas this year, so that’s what we’ll do. We get new ones for Christmas Eve anyway and it’s not hurting anyone.

For the PP who said they get used once and chucked, I don’t know a single person who does that. My DCs and everyone I know who does Christmas PJs, wears them until they’re too small or are looking worse for wear. I’ve still got a few pair from over the years that still get worn, they’re just the same as any other pyjamas.

AliceTheCamelHasTheHumpSoGoAliceGoBomBomBom · 31/10/2025 11:45

I find the snobbery around harmless Christmas traditions ridiculous.

Is it harming you in any way?

Will they?
I wear my Christmas Oodie all winter.

Not necessarily any worse than other clothing especially if sold on vinted

They are not harming you though are they ? They are a bit of fun i mean obviously you are above it all, but they are hardly "chavvy".

Rutterkin · 31/10/2025 11:47

We've lost the ability to just... let things not be for us.

moofolk · 31/10/2025 11:47

AIBU to hate the word chavvy? It absolutely makes my skin crawl and I feel with rage at smug middle class types looking down at people they see as inferior.

And while I don’t want to wear the same pyjamas as my whole family, I don’t really care whether other people do or not. If it makes the family feel like a little team & they enjoy it then good for them.

So on both counts YABVVU (and unbearably snobby).

Leo800 · 31/10/2025 11:47

It’s really naff & I cringe when I see photos on SM.

StrawberryJangle · 31/10/2025 11:48

I'd like to have a family dynamic that actually finds that loving, cosy and fun (and I suspect therin lies OPs problem).

My children are adults now. I'm single. I'll not have that time again.
I would however wear the pyjamas until they fall off me. That's just me.

AgnesMcDoo · 31/10/2025 11:48

Cringey and naff

FuzzyWolf · 31/10/2025 11:48

I assume you are just wanting to try to be controversial or are bored so posting a clickbait thread.

If you are that bothered about other people wearing matching pyjamas then you are very lucky that you have nothing else more pressing on your mind. You’re not lucky that your mind is such an unpleasantly judgemental place to be, but I suppose nobody has everything.

CarolwithoutanE · 31/10/2025 11:50

We even have a pair for mum who is late 70s, she’s here over Christmas and loves how chilled the day is.

That’s lovely!

DiscoBob · 31/10/2025 11:51

It's cheesy. But I don't care what others do to celebrate Xmas as long as they're happy and not hurting anyone. But then again I don't look at strangers social media.

If it was some kind of family tradition then I'd probably go along with it. It's just a laugh isn't it, for one day?

notacooldad · 31/10/2025 11:52

I have never done matching pjs for our family, heck, most days the pjs im wearing dont match.
However if families like doing this and its fun for them, why the hell not.

Get fun and joy where you can. If you dont like family matching pjs, who cares.
