To find family matching Xmas PJs extremely chavvy

Gcol · 31/10/2025 11:37

They are everywhere! It’s a social media boast thing.
Do people cook Xmas dinner in their PJs?
Kids will be looking back at photos of them thinking it was embarrassing to be dressed in the same PJs as their parents.

Does anyone who does this not share photos and just do it for themselves? (I don’t mean not take photos just not share them)

We don’t share photos on social media, I don’t even have Facebook or instagram, but I do take pics.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 31/10/2025 12:05

Are council houses chavvy?

Anyway matching PJs are not just for Christmas. You can also get Halloween and Pudsey Bear ones.

You sound very judgy and rude @Gcol . YANBU to not like people wearing matching pyjamas at Christmas, but calling them chavvy is just such a nasty thing to say. And no, of course the children aren't going to grow up and look back and feel embarrassed at the matching pyjamas pics from Christmases past!. What a ludicrous thing to say! Hmm

DH and I don't have them by the way, but we may get them now!

Out of spite😂

We do matching PJs. I don't post pictures of my DC online though. We don't do Christmas Eve boxes and we wear the PJs all year. I just think it is a nice tradition for the DC and something I would need to buy anyway. It encourages DC to get a bath and into their new pjs, they can have a nice hot chocolate and watch a Christmas movie, leave the bits and bobs out for Father Christmas. It is probably a tradition that they will roll their eyes at as teens but I can carry on into their teenage years.

Oh that "C" word again.
Can people please stop using it.
It's not big and it's not clever.
Just grow up.

This. ^ I visualise a 14 year old schoolgirl, when I see people using this word.

KookyRoseCrab · 31/10/2025 12:06

Son in law wore them 2 years ago with his family, they don’t do a traditional Christmas dinner either or very limited presents ( they are half Phillapino) and they got slagged really slagged.
but I say whatever you want to do do it , yer a long time dead.

happysinglemama · 31/10/2025 12:06

Sounds like OP is the chav here

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 31/10/2025 12:07

OP it’s ok you don’t want to do something. I don’t do Christmas Eve boxes, Easter eggs come from who they are from not the Easter bunny, never bothered with elf on a shelf.

We always carve pumpkins for Halloween, don’t do massive displays. It’s ok to only do bits of event stuff and just not bother with what you don’t enjoy. Enough people like matching pjs that so many shops sell them. If you look, many do Christmas pjs for adults and children that don’t have matching options for the whole family, so clearly a lot of people do Christmas pjs not matching.

OriginalUsername2 · 31/10/2025 12:07

I can’t see anything ”council house and violent” about matching pyjamas. 🙄

Nothingfallingdowntoday · 31/10/2025 12:07

It’s not a tradition I uphold or how I want to spend my money but I don’t judge anybody who enjoys it.

I probably should but more from the sustainability, fast fashion angle but maybe they do wear their Christmas pjs all year round and are ready for a new pair each December. Who knows

Oh hell yeah. I may even post the photos on here! 😆 And make sure I @ the OP in it!!!

Minnie798 · 31/10/2025 12:07

I don't think it's chavvy. Cheesy and a bit cringe, yes.

CarolwithoutanE · 31/10/2025 12:07

Oh we actually all have matching December bedding too which my daughter bought for us last year! That will come out again with the Christmas stuff from the loft!

jay55 · 31/10/2025 12:08

I think they’re lovely.
Its not something my family ever did, but I smile at the pictures of those that do.

RaraRachael · 31/10/2025 12:08

They weren't a thing when my kids were small but I could just imagine my XH's reaction if I'd asked him to wear a pair.

Personally I find them a bit naff and cringy seeing grown men wearing them. One in particular was a hard man sports star looking quite embarrassed as he was made to pose for the "content"

Each to their own

I also have pudsey ones, and 3 pudsey jumpers! I live in an ex council property. Do I win a chav award? I have never won anything before 😃

whatsnewpussycat34 · 31/10/2025 12:02

Not sure it’s council houses and violent (chav) people who do this. It’s more people who like to post on social media, influencers etc. I can’t see anything wrong with it to be honest.

I prefer it to the wankery of Halloween.

Most people in council houses ( not all ) can’t afford pj ,s they are too busy trying to get the kids presents

CaptainMyCaptain · 31/10/2025 12:10

PigletIsWorried · 31/10/2025 11:37

You can just dislike the things you dislike without using loaded terms like 'chavvy', you know.

This. Each to their own it's nothing to do with you @OP

timetogetgoing · 31/10/2025 12:10

Bigger issue is the environmental impact/waste of Christmas pyjamas/any of the seasonal tat that gets bought in general if only worn/used a few times.

Who cares if families match their pjs or not - that’s just other people’s preference none of my concern.

I enjoy getting everyone new Christmassy pjs. I think it’s not such a wasteful thing if get good use out of ours from beginning of Dec through to when the weather warms up - so well into April for us. Then some get handed down to younger sibs for them next winter as all need a few pairs each season to wash/wear.

Needmorelego · 31/10/2025 12:10

I wish I could wear them.
I am a bigger size on top than I am on the bottom so sets are no good for me 🙁
Asda have some nice separate bottoms and tops that are kind of Christmasy colours so I might get those this year.
Just for me.
The rest of the family wouldn't wear them.

Do you think people who live in council houses sleep naked or maybe in their clothes ? I know you are trying to make the point of buying Christmas pjs but it doesn't come across that way.

Bambamhoohoo · 31/10/2025 12:12

Chavvy is an offensive word OP. It’s not 1996 anymore
