To find family matching Xmas PJs extremely chavvy

They are everywhere! It’s a social media boast thing.
Do people cook Xmas dinner in their PJs?
Kids will be looking back at photos of them thinking it was embarrassing to be dressed in the same PJs as their parents.

what an odd thing to get upset about, to the point of needing to start a thread about it.

Does anyone who does this not share photos and just do it for themselves? (I don’t mean not take photos just not share them)

We do it and don't share photos. Photos are taken during the day but we dont pose for one all together

I think its just terrible for environmental reasons. Most of them will only be worn once and then tossed.
Otherwise, I do think it is very cheesy.

Hmm, I’ve worn my Xmas PJs all year round, in fact for many years. My bed doesn’t care what pattern my PJs are. DC 1 has worn theirs for the last 2 years as they still fit (just) and DC2 wore their Easter sleep suit last night.

As to the ‘chavvy’ comment - YABU OP. It’s a family activity. My eldest loves matching with me and we have a bit of a movie night, whatever with it. I don’t know what styles you consider chavvy (for me it would be bright pink Juicy tracksuits with full length uggs, and I actually own a pair of uggs, but don’t wear them in that composition) but I can’t see how a privately enjoyed bah-humbug pyjama would fit in to that stereotype.

BlueandPinkSwan · 31/10/2025 12:26

Special pyjamas for anything is naff imo but I don't care what other peeps wear.

RunningByTheRiver · 31/10/2025 12:26

Coffeeishot · 31/10/2025 12:18

Dogs in pyjamas might be my very favourite thing 😀

Our dogs wear Christmas pyjamas. They actually wear pyjamas from October til the weather warms up in Spring. By 8pm each night they paw at the cupboard their PJs are kept in and won’t stop til they’re dressed in them. Then they settle down and sleep all night. 🤣

MajorMerrick · 31/10/2025 12:26

I know people who do this every year and they’re not chavvy. They’d be considered upper class tbh. That said, I’d never do it.

sillyme1234 · 31/10/2025 12:27

So?
Don't do it yourself.

Purplecatshopaholic · 31/10/2025 12:27

Not for me, no. Just another attempt to extort yet more money from people in my view. Defo an each-to-their-own thing, if you love ‘em, crack on.

ilovesooty · 31/10/2025 12:27

Needmorelego · 31/10/2025 12:07

That's not what "chav" means.

It's used on here by people who think some other people are common and beneath them.

Blanketpolicy · 31/10/2025 12:27

I don't think they are "chavvy" but I do think they are extremely wasteful. Especially when kids grow out of them so a full new set is needed for everyone the next year. Surely there are more longer lasting fun things money could be spent on near Christmas!

I also hate that the choice of autumn/winter/spring long sleeve/leg PJs that are not Christmas themed is limited because of the trend.

Oh stop it 😍😄

Franpie · 31/10/2025 12:29

I really like them although we’ve never had any. Every year I can’t quite bring myself to spend nearly £200 on PJ’s. Maybe this year I’ll push the boat out.

Well yeah! Looks great with all the family around too. And NONE of these people look like 'chavs!' Hmm

I think it's a bit cheesy but I don't mind a bit of cheesiness at Christmas!
I have Christmas pjs, they don't match anyone's but I wear them throughout winter.

Heronwatcher · 31/10/2025 12:31

Anything goes at Christmas. Very non U to call it chavvy.

Since you’ve asked, in terms of class though, it’s actually probably more revealing when people insist on everything being very “tasteful” and pretending that they’re hosting the royals at Sandringham in a 3 bed tudorbeathan on an estate in Slough. Tres bourgeois.

That is exactly it! And I have never heard anyone posh, or upper class using this term.

Only wannabe middle classes, and people who think they're 'posh!' Wink

.

RedRiverShore5 · 31/10/2025 12:31

I only wear Christmas pyjamas, I buy them in the Next sale and wear them all year apart from when it's very hot. They are generally less than half price, I got some nice ones last sale with puffins on.

TheKeatingFive · 31/10/2025 12:32

Shitty behaviour to call them 'chavvy'.

Each to their own. If they make people happy then that's a nice thing surely?

KookyRoseCrab · 31/10/2025 12:32

Some folks not everyone can’t afford Christmas presents never mind Christmas pj,s , they use Foodbanks and some not all are in Council Houses or private lets . Some are even in bought houses bought before prices got out of control.
so it’s wrong to think people in Council homes are ch…y I don’t even want to say the word

I haven't got any Christmas pyjamas but I've got two pairs of Christmas leggings I bought in the January sales two years ago. I wear them all year round.

LibertyLily · 31/10/2025 12:37

SerafinasGoose · 31/10/2025 12:24

Who cares, if you happen to like them? I personally don’t. I feel horrible if I wear PJs anywhere other than in bed.

But why must everything have these nasty, snobbish class associations grafted on? It’s really tiresome.

Edited

Me too @SerafinasGoose - wearing pyjamas when I'm not ill/in bed/about to go to bed etc makes me feel odd. I certainly wouldn't want to eat my dinner in them - Christmas dinner especially. I'm the same about dressing gowns - in fact I ditched mine altogether when we were moving house last year.

Each to their own if it makes them happy - it's not chavvy, just another slightly cringe SM trend (as long as they're not planning to wear them to the supermarket...that is rather naff imo!) and another way to rinse people of their hard-earned cash.

I agree. Dogs look adorable in anything. Humans much less so.

alphabetti · 31/10/2025 12:49

Love matching pjamas! wear them throughout the year so don’t see as a waste and prob the only time i buy myself pjamas. 15yr gap between my daughters and you gets loves how she is wearing same outfit as her sister. If you don’t like matching pjamas don’t buy but if you like them embrace them!

Needmorelego · 31/10/2025 12:50

SheinIsShite · 31/10/2025 12:20

Agree with this.

Like on the Sewing Bee this year when someone recycled like 20 pairs of the things into one dress. The judges praised his creativity but should have asked wtf they were thinking in the first place.

What's the issue with that.
That how quilts were traditionally made.
Random material from old/unused clothes.

Yes indeed.
But the "Council House and Violent" is made up crap.
