To find family matching Xmas PJs extremely chavvy

Gcol · 31/10/2025 11:37

They are everywhere! It’s a social media boast thing.
Do people cook Xmas dinner in their PJs?
Kids will be looking back at photos of them thinking it was embarrassing to be dressed in the same PJs as their parents.

OP posts:

I think they're quite cute and good fun.

JudgeBread · 31/10/2025 12:12

I find people who take time out of their day to make entire ass internet posts slagging off other people's harmless family traditions and calling literal children "chavvy" really, really cunty.

I'd rather be a chav in tacky sparkly matching playboy bunny Christmas jammies than a miserable cunt, but that's just me.

We wear ours all year round 😂

Yep, year round. Summer round anyway. But I haven’t found any I really like this year or last so we are out of them.

LilacPony · 31/10/2025 12:14

My children have matching. They wear them on Xmas eve and then Xmas morning. I don’t share any photos of them on social media. It’s just nice and they love it. And my children wear their Xmas pyjamas all year round. I’d never buy something that’s worn once. I don’t think that’s chavvy at all. But even if it is chavvy, I’d rather be that than someone posting criticism about others online.

MrsSlocombesCat · 31/10/2025 12:15

I think it's less about fun and more about projecting a view of a perfect family on social media. Which I do think is a bit chavvy.

Grammarnut · 31/10/2025 12:16

Got given matching pyjamas (I don't like PJs) last New Year for me, DD and DD's DP's DM. Was fine. They are nice pyjamas but I tend not to wear them so they sit in a drawer. We wore them for dinner.

MotherPuppr · 31/10/2025 12:16

After years of renting we bought a house and got a dog and I was DELIGHTED to buy matching Christmas PJ's for me my husband and MY DOG last year (does that make you heave OP, are we extra chavvy?)

Ellie1015 · 31/10/2025 12:17

Its not worth the money to me, but not sure why you would have to call it chavvy?

Fine not to want to jump on the trend, no need to look down on others who do.

Most people in council houses ( not all ) can’t afford pj ,s they are too busy trying to get the kids presents

Maybe they sleep underneath coats as well

Ffs

Does anyone who does this not share photos and just do it for themselves? (I don’t mean not take photos just not share them)

Yes, I don’t share any photos of my children online. I’ve deleted previous ones I have. And moving forward I won’t be. The advent of AI is shocking and what people can do with an image of your child.

SleeplessInWherever · 31/10/2025 12:18

I’m going to get us matching/similar Christmas jumpers this year.

It’ll be the first Christmas ever that our 9 year old will (hopefully) actually even partly celebrate and engage with, so I plan to go whole hog.

If that’s chavvy, so be it!

Beat me to it. 😂 100% this! ^

Coffeeishot · 31/10/2025 12:18

Dogs in pyjamas might be my very favourite thing 😀

sugarapplelane · 31/10/2025 12:18

I think my DH and DD would turn around and laugh in my face if I ever suggested wearing matching PJ’s. Not that I ever would!
I think it’s so cringey!! Another SM craze

ilovesooty · 31/10/2025 12:18

PigletIsWorried · 31/10/2025 11:37

You can just dislike the things you dislike without using loaded terms like 'chavvy', you know.

Edited

Exactly. Loathsome term.
And you don't have to buy them if you don't want to. Other people's choices aren't doing you any harm.

PracticalPixie · 31/10/2025 12:19

They're not for me, but obviously starting a thread calling them chavvy is a lot worse than the 'crime' of wearing matching pyjamas 😂

EatMoreChocolate44 · 31/10/2025 12:19

Definitely not chavvy. We don't do it because it would be a waste buying different matching Christmas pjs each year as the kids grow out of them so quickly (my Christmas PJ's are about 10 years old - only wear them for 6 wks a year 😂). I think it is cute though. Each to their own.

pumpkinscake · 31/10/2025 12:19

I don't like them, but I also don't like the term chavvy, which is mean and snobby

SheinIsShite · 31/10/2025 12:20

mjf981 · 31/10/2025 11:38

I think its just terrible for environmental reasons. Most of them will only be worn once and then tossed.
Otherwise, I do think it is very cheesy.

Edited

Agree with this.

Like on the Sewing Bee this year when someone recycled like 20 pairs of the things into one dress. The judges praised his creativity but should have asked wtf they were thinking in the first place.

SkylarkKitten · 31/10/2025 12:20

We got some last year and we will be wearing them this year too. Its just us on Christmas day and it's nice to have a PJ day whilst being with my partner and kids. It was really relaxed - no posts for social media - it was just for us. And yes, we ate our dinner wearing them too. I wouldn't judge any family on what they chose to do on holidays or festivals, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.

Wellifyouresurebetterbegryffindor · 31/10/2025 12:21

YANBU to dislike it if it's not for you.

YABU to use the word chavvy

EmeraldShamrock000 · 31/10/2025 12:21

Using the derogatory term "chavvy" is disgusting, far worse than matching pyjamas.

Zanatdy · 31/10/2025 12:22

Not my thing, but yes you’re unreasonable to say its chavvy. I’m sure there are people with plenty of money who have matching PJ’s too

👏👏👏👏👏

SerafinasGoose · 31/10/2025 12:24

Who cares, if you happen to like them? I personally don’t. I feel horrible if I wear PJs anywhere other than in bed.

But why must everything have these nasty, snobbish class associations grafted on? It’s really tiresome.
