To find family matching Xmas PJs extremely chavvy

They are everywhere! It’s a social media boast thing.
Do people cook Xmas dinner in their PJs?
Kids will be looking back at photos of them thinking it was embarrassing to be dressed in the same PJs as their parents.

Also I don’t think people wear them to eat dinner. I’ve not got them but I’ve never seen it in photos. People wear them in the run up to Christmas for movie nights etc, and then maybe for brunch/ present opening on the day I think. I.e like normal
pyjamas.

We do in this house 😂

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/10/2025 12:58

We’ve never done them (no way would I ever get dh into 🎄pyjamas - he never wears Pjs anyway - but whatever floats your boat.

I’d only object if people who say they’re short of money, also say they feel ‘pressured’ into buying into this sort of thing.

I have never done matching pjs for our family, heck, most days the pjs im wearing dont match.
However if families like doing this and its fun for them, why the hell not.

Get fun and joy where you can. If you dont like family matching pjs, who cares.

I saw a grown family get their photo taken at Max spielman with matching PJ. Was so cute

adamduritzvocalchords · 31/10/2025 13:06

My Kids are late teens early 20’s and wanted family pjs for the first time last year. They want them this year too! They don’t think it’s embarrassing and they also have worn them throughout the year so not bad environmentally

tootyflooty · 31/10/2025 13:09

Well, ours are from M & S, so not what I would consider chavy 😂, and they are used year round like regular pjs, so not a one time wear purchase. We did it one year when all the adult children and their partners were staying on Christmas eve. We don't wear pjs of any description at lunch, just until after present opening and bacon buttie breakie, but maybe we are chavy as we don't have salmon and bucks fizz for breakfast .🤔

No smoked salmon. Good Lord, do the neighbours know?

I mean they make me cringe a bit but each to their own 🤷‍♂️

Perhaps a bigger problem is why it eats you up enough that you'd think to start this thread?

Is Christmas generally not a great time for you?

I like Christmas but copying social media and influencers is rather sad. Do your own things

Do your own thing then and stop worrying about what traditions other families have? I think it's sad to write a thread about something that doesn't affect you in the slightest!

RoseAlone · 31/10/2025 13:28

Could not agree more. Chavvy and tacky.

Well yeah, I wonder that too. Most people are influenced by what others do to some degree.

NadjaofAntipaxos · 31/10/2025 13:36

In our house on Xmas eve, the doorbell rang at bedtime and Rudolph had left you some new PJ's on the doorstep to wear for bed and opening presents the next day. My mum was one of eight and grew up very poor so being able to make Xmas special for us was so exciting for her. I've carried on the tradition with my kids and MIL always sends a Xmas eve box of treats to be delivered by Rudolph at the same time. They love it.
They are 8 and 10 now so not sure how many more years we will get their buy in for these childhood memories.
The Xmas PJ's get worn all year.
We've never done matching ones but this year I've got us nightmare before Xmas ones to put on tonight after trick or treating while we watch a spooky movie.
Why scoff at something like this and use a horribly snobby word like chavvie? It smacks of looking down on people who maybe didn't grow up with much and want to make these little traditions for their families now they can.
And for what it's worth, our household has two (redbrick since were being snobs!) post-grad qualified professionals. We enjoy highbrow shit like Michelin starred restaurants for special occasions, theatre (sometimes even stuff that's not musicals LOL), international cinema, opera, independent travel. And also the occasional all-inclusive package holiday, all you can eat carvery, Mcdonald happy meal and love island.
My cleaner left school at 15 when she got pregnant and is one of the best-read, witty people I know. She lives in a council house with three kids with shock horror, different dads, she is doing an open university degree and smashing her marks.
Most people aren't just a stereotype you know.

JLou08 · 31/10/2025 13:39

What is you interpretation of Chav? It's a pretty derogatory term and I'm not sure you are even using it in the right context.

God you sound joyless. You do realise that people have been following trends led by people they saw and admired since caveman times- why else do you think people wore whalebone skirts the size of doors, ruffs, curled their hair in a particular way, drunk coffee, bought pineapples, bathed in the sea, had Christmas trees in their houses, went to Scotland, etc etc. Do you think everyone thought of this independently at a particular point in time? Seeing someone else do something and thinking “oh that looks fun, I’ll try it” is a perfectly normal part of human nature, has ever been thus.

I never understand comments like this, because so many of our Christmas traditions are collective.

Christmas trees, turkeys, puddings, crackers, gift giving, carols - all of these were fashions that were started by someone and adopted en masse.

Extensive copying is a core part of Christmas.
