I love Japanese - fresh, simplistic food done well. Big emphasis on whole foods and mostly on the healthier side. Doesn’t leave you with regret after eating!

On the flip side.. Indian is my nightmare! I hate cumin, fennel & coriander which rules most dishes out. I don’t mind the occasional korma but that’s as far as it gets - greasy curries etc aren’t really my cup of tea

Thai.

This probably makes me unique. But that smell of lemongrass, ginger, garlic and coconut makes me retch.

And I hate watery soup/broths with large things afloat in them, especially fungi of any sort.

Feeling queasy now…

You’d love what I made for dinner tonight in that case… a lovely ramen complete with loads of mushrooms 🤣 The irony!

I don't have a cuisine I don't like, I guess the closest would be cheap takeaway doner kebab, greasy chips etc but that's more because it's often done badly and is too greasy.

Love Indian food but I grew up in east London

ObliviousCoalmine · 30/10/2025 20:41

Sorry, did you just reduce all Indian food down to “greasy curries”?

I cant STAND thai. I've never had a dish I enjoyed.
Basically like everything else 😂 Indian is probably my favourite.

‘Greasy curries etc

It isn’t wrong to generalise that it’s a very greasy/oil heavy cuisine.

Thai is mine too. I love some of it, but I really hate keffir lime leaves and I'm not too hot on coriander either. Some of the coconut dishes are lovely but only if there's not too much of either of these things in.

Everything else I will eat with abandon, I'm a total glutton!

I don’t like Thai either and everyone else seems to love it! Im not fond of Middle Eastern food either. I love Indian or Italian though.

PanderBare · 30/10/2025 20:44

Strict vegetarian but not vegan, so don't eat out much. (It's usually boring food I could cook better myself)

Like Indian, don't eat chinese.
Hate street food. It stinks.

mbosnz · 30/10/2025 20:46

Currently we're going through a bit of a Moroccan and Greek phase, which I'm loving!

I'm hard put to say one that I don't like - I think it would be Filipino that I'm yet to appreciate.

Changingnames2002 · 30/10/2025 20:47

Love Thai, Japanese, Italian. Not so fussed about Chinese or French cuisine

Yes - I love Indian food…which is all too obvious from my figure!😀

You think a country the shear size of India, with so much regional diversity and over a billion people can be generalised by your high street’s korma?

TheatricalLife · 30/10/2025 20:51

Love Italian, could leave Chinese. I don't hate it, but it's down at the bottom of the list if I'm picking.

eekwhatnow · 30/10/2025 20:51

Thai is my favourite because it feels fresh to me and I love the aromatics. I don’t like Spanish food on the whole, always struggle to find anything I’d want to eat on the menu and even fish, which I do love, always seems to come with a head on, which I find off putting!

SpiceGhoul · 30/10/2025 20:52

Least favourite - Italian, I can take or leave pizza. I like pasta/risotto too and eat it regularly but would never ever choose to go to an Italian restaurant.
Favourite - Sorry I cannot choose! I love Indian, Greek and asian dishes (noodles/ramen are probably my favourite food!). But I think Mexican might just edge it, I'm a big coriander fan. Adore spice and love the contrast of the rich dishes with the fresh salads/salsas. M&S layered Mexican dip, totally inauthentic but I could easily hoover up the entire tub in one sitting with some tortilla chips.

Hoolihan · 30/10/2025 20:52

I love Middle Eastern food best e.g. Turkish/Lebanese/Persian.

Not a big fan of middle Europe e.g. German/Austrian. Too much meat and potato.

DH worked there for a while within various cities (Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai) so I’ve visited quite a few times and yes, in general I did find it to be quite grease/oil heavy!

I hate typically British food.

QueenClinomania · 30/10/2025 20:54

I love a lot of Chinese food. But my experience has only been takeaways so I dont know how representative it is.
I also cant eat it any more because about 20 years ago it started making me very ill.
I still yearn for it even now 🤣

I have not been fond of the limited amount of Greek food I have tried but I dont think i have had enough to form a proper opinion.

I think even Mr Positive, Rick Stein, struggled to be complimentary when he visited some parts of Germany.

BoarBrush · 30/10/2025 20:59

Love Italian, could easily eat it for every meal for the rest of my life and be gloriously happy.

I think I'll have to pick japanese as my no. Though maybe Indian as its so filling I can't eat much of it but it's so bloody nice. Gives leftovers for next day though I suppose

@CoffeeCantata

I'm with you on this. Can't stand Thai; it's like washing up water with lumps of vege stuff. Revolting.

Simonjt · 30/10/2025 21:01

I don’t think I can pick one as a favourite, I could never knock it down to one.

Least favourite I would say British food, not a great variety and generally flavour free.

FaitesVosJeux · 30/10/2025 21:02

Least favourite -Japanese. I like the idea but I despise wasabi with every fibre of my being and that taste of vinegar in the rice - just why?

Love Persian/Turkish/Lebanese or anything like that.
