I love Japanese - fresh, simplistic food done well. Big emphasis on whole foods and mostly on the healthier side. Doesn’t leave you with regret after eating!

On the flip side.. Indian is my nightmare! I hate cumin, fennel & coriander which rules most dishes out. I don’t mind the occasional korma but that’s as far as it gets - greasy curries etc aren’t really my cup of tea

Thai and Japanese are my fave
Anything kebab is just eww...sorry, not sorry

Thaimonstera · 30/10/2025 21:02

I love all food.

Sunflower2461 · 30/10/2025 21:04

Are you talking about the country's local cuisine or the typical UK takeaway's version of it.

Either way I would probably say my least favourite is British/American as I dislike stodge and blandness.

I think my favourite is probably Vietnamese as I love the freshness of the food and the variety of subtle flavours.

JaceLancs · 30/10/2025 21:06

Favourite would be Chinese
least favourite trad English

Agree re: kebabs! How can anyone look at a massive rotating piece of mystery meat and think it’s appetising?! 🤢

Oh tough choices but I think I’d also put Spanish at the bottom (though there are a lot of Spanish dishes I like too!) and top would either be Chinese or Italian.
Love noodles and also tomato salads 😂

DiscoBob · 30/10/2025 21:07

Favourite Greek, Turkish or French. I also love British/Irish, Spanish, Thai, Italian...gawd most things really!

Least favourite (that I've tried) is Mexican. It feels like lots of iterations of rice, beans, cheese and tortillas. I'm also a big potato fan and they don't seem to feature mutch. There are still some things I've had from that cuisine that are tasty though. And I've never been to Mexico where it's probably much better.

Gigglepastell · 30/10/2025 21:08

Least is cauliflower cheese cos it’s just yuck!

TheChosenTwo · 30/10/2025 21:08

But what I really hate, and it transcends many cuisines, is savoury dishes with fruit in them 🤢

Luiu · 30/10/2025 21:09

I struggle to just pick one favourite, I love Indian, I could live off pav bhaji and the million different dhals, but I also love Polish and Mexican.
least favourite also a struggle as there’s none I’ve tried that I’ve really disliked massively as a whole but if I had to choose Ethiopian, I like the main dishes I’ve tried but I just really dislike the taste of injera and the sourness.

Cornflakegirl7 · 30/10/2025 21:10

Greek/turkish. I am a vegan and a hummus lover, love dips, beautifully cooked veg and breads.

I love pizza too so perhaps italian but not a pasta fan.

I don't mind Indian but I seldom eat it as it lingers on me! But I love spices and interesting flavours.

Dislike-english unfortunately. The only thing that is traditionally english that I can actually eat as a vegan is pottage I think!

Don't like chinese. All seems so samey and I find it very boring to eat.

I think authentic Turkish kebabs are meant to be quite good as they are made from real meat, as opposed to minced offcuts mixed with fat and fillers you can get from a UK kebab shop.

chocolateychurros · 30/10/2025 21:11

For some reason I never liked chinese. I just don’t like the sweetness and am not a fan of their noodle dishes either. It’s just the flavours I don’t like.
I love Indian though, and I’m Iranian so I love that quisine too. I also love sushi that is not raw.

Skimama123 · 30/10/2025 21:18

Favourite is difficult, either Indian, Austrian, middle eastern or Greek.

least favourite, Japanese or Mexican.

Definition of kebab:
a dish of pieces of meat, fish, or vegetables roasted or grilled on a skewer or spit.

I love a kebab and assume your comment is referring to the rotating spits in takeaway shops (which I actually am not adverse to if I'm in the mood).

But a chicken shish for example is lovely and my go-to "healthier" takeaway option. From my local Turkish kebab house it is literally marinated chicken breast, peppers and onions grilled and served with homemade, bread sauces and salads. Granted not all kebab shops are the same but also not all kebabs are massive rotating mystery meats either.

I also make my own kebabs at home regularly which are meat and veg on a skewer. We like jerk chicken and pineapple skewers for example, still a kebab but not a mystery meat on a skewer

Favourites are Italian and Indian - beautiful, lush big flavours that I enjoy

least favourite is Spanish especially tapas - not keen on the spice mix, loathe chorizo, don’t like fish and there’s too much cheese

Redheadedstepchild · 30/10/2025 21:26

Here's a thought:

Cuisines that are a bit of a let down in the main course department seem to make it up with the desserts and sweets. Like Germany, Austria, Belgium.

Culinary traditions that get it right for the savouries tend to let themselves down when it comes to the pudding.

Is there anywhere that really zings in both?

October2025 · 30/10/2025 21:27

Absolutely love greek food
Food hell would be anything like tripe /odd fish with heads etc.

AutumnalCrows · 30/10/2025 21:31

ObliviousCoalmine · 30/10/2025 20:41

Sorry, did you just reduce all Indian food down to “greasy curries”?

Yeah. It’s not the most inspiring OP. But she doesn’t mind the occasional korma, so there’s that.

Waitingfordoggo · 30/10/2025 21:32

Thai and Vietnamese are my favourite- the freshness! I love ginger, garlic, coriander, Thai basil, lime and lemongrass. Kaffir lime leaves are my favourite smell in the whole world.

There aren’t really any cuisines I hate but I don’t rate Chinese food- or at least the way it’s done in the UK- I daresay Chinese food in China is a completely different thing. But British Chinese is all the same colour and most of the sauces are gloopy. Just not a fan.

FastFood · 30/10/2025 21:36

I'll eat anything.
My favourite is probably mexican or lebanese.
Least favourite if I really have to choose, probably thai. But I'll eat it anyway, it just wouldn't be among my first 20 options.

ToffeePennie · 30/10/2025 21:37

Most favourite is Italian.
least favourite anything with spices/cumin/cinammon/ginger/coconut. Anything greasy or even mildly spicy will make me vomit, sometimes from the smell.
I much prefer plainer, less spiced dishes, salt is fine, not too much pepper please!!

user1471453601 · 30/10/2025 21:38

Your post is like asking what someone's favourite music is.

sometimes I want to listen to Miles Davis, sometimes to Neil young, sometimes to the beloved Leonard sometimes to Amy Winehouse.

If I listened to more contemporary music, I guess I'd give you a very different list.

What I want to eat depends on my mood. Just as what I want to listen to does.

I haven't eaten all types of Chinese cuisine, for example. After all, it's a pretty large country. But I'm not that keen on my local chinese takeaways cuisine, that doesn't mean I don't like Chinese food. It means I don't like my local takeaways version of it.

rookiemere · 30/10/2025 21:39

I like most cuisines but not hearty East European , actually Austrian and German as well as I am not keen on big lumps of meat - particularly if they have been boiled, nor dumplings or apple sauce. Oh and I don’t really like pickles either or too fishy raw fish.

Favourite is possibly Italian or Chinese, I like most spicy flavoursome foods.

worcesterpear · 30/10/2025 21:39

I too struggle to pick a favourite as I like all different kinds of food, if done well. The best food I've ever had was probably at a Chinese restaurant in Manchester. But, I'd rather have a bad Indian than a bad Chinese. Overall, I'd say my favourite is Italian even though I'm not keen on pizzas.
