I love Japanese - fresh, simplistic food done well. Big emphasis on whole foods and mostly on the healthier side. Doesn’t leave you with regret after eating!

On the flip side.. Indian is my nightmare! I hate cumin, fennel & coriander which rules most dishes out. I don’t mind the occasional korma but that’s as far as it gets - greasy curries etc aren’t really my cup of tea

Tough one!

If I had to live with one cuisine for the rest of my life I'd go Malaysian, as it brings in the best of Chinese and Indian as well. But I'd miss Italian.

The one restaurant cuisine I avoid is bog standard Chinese takeaway. LOVE dim sum but not the typical Anglicised dishes like sweet and sour pork etc.

I’m Indian and quite shocked by this post and some of these comments - Curries, dhals, etc just look like it already completed a cycle through digestive tract and came out the other end. Taste is also similar. Really!?

Indian cuisine is incredibly diverse and regular home-cooked Indian food is not usually “greasy and oil-heavy” - that is what restaurant food tends to be like. Well done for reducing the food of a huge country to your experience of eating in a few restaurants.

I love most cuisines but I’m not a fan of mixing sweet and savoury, so things like raisins or apricots in pilaf or tagines? So specific dishes but not cuisines. Otherwise I eat most things, I think.

I like Japanese best, not fond of Chinese - based on having holidayed there a few times.

anamynous · 31/10/2025 05:04

Op, you need to explore the true Indian food then, not the restaurant ones. Why don't you try cooking your own?

I love all food.

I’m with you on that one. My figure of 8 on the other hand proves it 😂😳
Having travelled extensively I’ve tried all sorts of cuisines, there’s not many I’d not have again.

pestowithwalnuts · 31/10/2025 05:57

I love Italian and Indian although I would never order a fish curry in an Indian restaurant.
Thai food I also enjoy but Chinese isn't my favourite. The best I can do when faced with a takeaway menu is order chicken fried rice.

Shoxfordian · 31/10/2025 06:04

I don't like most traditional British food, don't like roast lunches unless they're done really well or stews/pastry for pies - too stodgy.

I love most other cuisines really - hard to choose a favourite, at home I cook more middle Eastern or Italian style than anything else.

That poster has also admitted eating human poo as well, quite concerning.

i love Lebanese food
Chinese we never eat
indian, can be disappointing.

my favourite i think was an ethiopian restaurant which i shared a huge plate with dd and then we ate the plate

Neurodiversitydoctor · 31/10/2025 06:22

Greek is my absolute favourite, loove hummous, love tzaziki, feta and the yoghurt - all my favourites. Amazing vegetables, salads just yum.

Least is North American/ Canadian not mad on fried potatoes/ lumps of meat which feature heavily.

I think it’s just a reflection of the difference between authentic, home-cooked cuisine in all cultures and the popular restaurant version. My friends of Indian heritage often say that the food from local restaurants isn’t what they’re used to. I do love it though, from either restaurants or friends!

Similarly with British food - it’s probably the least popular in this country to be found in restaurants- only very posh places even attempt it (Simpsons in the Strand, Rules in Covent Garden) but it can be just as delicious as any other cuisine. I think British food has perhaps suffered the most over the last few decades in terms of being looked down on and disparaged.

I love Italian, Indian and French food best, I think.

"Small plates"!

I HATE sharing, and want my own adult-sized meal.
I don't mean tapas, by the way, I mean normal restaurant food scaled down into a "small plates" concept.
Each one is always about £12 too, so the meal costs a fortune!

Oh God yes!

I hate sharing too - and not just because I’m greedy. I just don’t know what the etiquette is when lots of small plates are ordered and say there are 6 diners and each plate has 5 pieces. I’ve seen situations where everyone is so coy about taking too much that it ends up going back uneaten. That’s why I find tapas a tense experience.

it would be OK if someone took charge and said right, there’s one each of those and half each of these, or something.

I like many types of cuisine, but based on food I've eaten in the actual countries, then Sri Lankan and Italian. Can I add a roast dinner too?

Are you me?
Roast beef, hotly (pun intended) followed by Sri Lankan food.

Italian is good. Tapas - wonderful. Indian snack food, Malaysian curries, Dutch pancakes...

There is very little that I don't like.
