Was listening to some music today and after my playlist was finished Spotify went off on its own little algorithm-y journey, and I suddenly found myself listening to a song so beautiful I had it on repeat for about an hour. That sort of thing happens to me very rarely, so I thought I’d see if anyone else could recommend songs that have struck them in a similar way.

Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance

If You Should try to kiss her by Dressy Bessy - I think this one is more because of the film it’s from (But I’m a Cheerleader)

AlexandraPeppernose · 29/10/2025 20:42

And I am telling you Jennifer Hudson
Feeling good Nina Simone

I was going to say MCR Welcome to the Black Parade too. The video had me transfixed too.

Not really the first time I heard them as I was too young to appreciate them.

Living on a Prayer.
Fast Car.
YMCA (actually listen to it properly)
My grandfathers Clock. It stopped sure never to go again when the old man died. It’s certainly not unheard of for that to happen bonds between people and inanimate objects again aren’t unheard of.

More recent ones.

Through the wire. No idea why just always felt a connection to it.

Someone you loved. Has Me totally ugly sobbing.

I’ll probably think of many more.

LiamNeesonIsADerryGirl · 29/10/2025 20:47

Revelry - Kings of Leon
Let it be - The Beatles
I'll keep you safe - Sleeping at last

spanglisher · 29/10/2025 20:48

What a fabulous thread! So many great memories. I agree with a fair few especially Hurt - Johnny Cash, First Time Ever I saw your Face - Roberta Flack and Wires - Athlete but I'm surprised some of my favourites haven't appeared at all.
The Girl that Never Was by James Blunt - absolutely heartbreaking especially if you've been through it yourself
Nessum Dorma - I adored Pavarotti singing this but every since it was played at my dad's funeral I've never been able to listen to it in the same way
The Living Years - Mike + The Mechanics. Another one that's impossible to listen to without welling up
Somewhere over the Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwoʻole. I know a few people have mention the Eva Cassidy version but this version is outstanding

ntmdino · 29/10/2025 20:49

Most recent one was The Spell, by Mammoth (Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie's son). It's rock done right, basically flawless.

This isn't a case of a nepo-baby taking advantage of his dad's legacy. In terms of the whole package, I'd say he's even better than his dad.

HareHarePinchPunch · 29/10/2025 21:00

Konstantine by Something Corporate. It’s 9 minutes long and I never ever skip it. It’s so powerful.

FlipFlopVibe · 29/10/2025 21:29

When Adele sang Someone Like You at The Brits, it hadn’t even been released nor had the album but you could tell everyone was completely captivated. I remember James Corden introducing it and saying everyone will be immediately transported to that relationship that never quite was (something along those lines), he was not wrong, it speaks to the core. Truly goosebump worthy.

RandomUserName96 · 29/10/2025 21:31

All I Want by Kodaline

IsEveryUserNameBloodyTaken · 29/10/2025 21:35

The Living Years, Mike and The Mechanics.

Only Love Can Hurt Like This by Paloma Faith
Bell Bottomed Tear by The Beautiful South

boodlesandpoodles · 29/10/2025 21:39

Spring 1 - 2012

Nothing Compares 2 U (Sinead O’Connor). Such a beautiful, mournful melody and Sinead really belts it out with so much pain. Stunning song.

Born Slippy! (Underworld) It would be inaccurate actually to say it stopped me in my tracks- it made me dance my ARSE off. I still bloody love it and will immediately head to the dancefloor when I hear those opening chords.

Recently, anything by Ren but especially ‘Hi Ren’ and ‘The Tale of Jenny and Screech’. His work stops me in my tracks because I have to pay attention and I get completely drawn in to his incredible storytelling. It’s really not music that you just have on in the background.

Ren is amazing. Been listening to him for 2+ years. Don't really need another artist!

Tishtash2teeth · 29/10/2025 21:55

Mine are really not even that good - but at the time blew my little mind

You’re Beautiful James Blunt
if you wanna be my lover Spice girls
You’re beautiful (no matter what they say) Christina
Back for Good Take That
Grandmas Hands Bill Withers
Piano Man and New York State of mind Billy Joel
Fallin Alisha Keys
and that one by liberty x !

a real mix!!

Miaminmoo · 29/10/2025 21:58

I’ve got loads but a few stand out ones are;

The Killers - All These Things That I Have Done
Benson Boone - Beautiful Things
Biffy Clyro - Many of Horror
Meat Loaf - For Crying out Loud
Hozier - Too Sweet
Thirty Seconds to Mars - The Kill

Just listened to your song - never heard it before but it’s definitely a good one.

Cel77 · 29/10/2025 22:03

Back to Black. Amy Winehouse
Rhythm is a dancer

Others too but those two are some of the most powerful ones.

Flowerlovinglady · 29/10/2025 22:28

I first heard it on the latest Bridget Jones film soundtrack - Annie Lennox, The Hurting Time.

user1480870781 · 29/10/2025 22:29

Angie, The Rolling Stones & Life on Mars, David Bowie. I loved both from the very first time I heard them. They are still both capable of stopping me in my tracks.

DialSquare · 29/10/2025 22:32

So many over the years but the most recent was Go Home by Angel Olsen.

FraterculaArctica · 29/10/2025 22:35

Eternal Flame - Bangles

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 29/10/2025 22:39

There’s a Bears Den song that stopped me in my tracks and made me cry but I’ve forgotten the name of it it now 🤦‍♀️

One of the Longpigs songs always chokes me up and I’ve forgotten the name of that as well.
