Was listening to some music today and after my playlist was finished Spotify went off on its own little algorithm-y journey, and I suddenly found myself listening to a song so beautiful I had it on repeat for about an hour. That sort of thing happens to me very rarely, so I thought I’d see if anyone else could recommend songs that have struck them in a similar way.

And the Johnny Cash cover of Hurt

Always loves this, and then the way it was used in Person of Interest cemented it. Rewatched it this week, it's still the most perfect 4 minutes of TV in existence.

Slipping through my fingers
I'm not a fan of Abba but that song kills me

Exactly the one I was going to say.

Mmmcheese89 · 28/10/2025 21:33

Praying by Kesha.

I was stood at my bench at work, tears silently streaming down my face. Was a long time before I could listen to that song without crying. That whole album was so healing for me.

The first time ever I saw your face (sorry if I’ve mangled that) - Roberta Flack. Never heard anything else like it.

Still raises goosebumps. First heard it in "Play Misty for Me".

Also Roberta Flack "Killing me softly".

ComedyGuns · 28/10/2025 21:35

I’m probably going to sound a bit shallow, but Closer by The Chainsmokers - it was back in the day when the Radio 1 chart was a big deal. I’d stopped listening to it years before, but an afternoon DJ announced that this was no.1. I remember turning into Sainsbury’s car park and listening to it until the end. Unfortunately probably the only really great song they’ve ever done.

More recently Messy by Lola Young (probably in the same car park!).

Lucky, by Radiohead.
The first time I heard it, it just gave me goose bumps all over my body.

@XenoBitch Oh my God, yes. YES. ‘Lucky’ does something weird to my solar plexus. That descending note on ‘Glorious’ a couple of minutes in. And the guitar. Incredible song; extraordinary album!

BorneBackCeaselesslyIntoThePas · 28/10/2025 21:35

John Foxx Underpass, when I first heard it (way back in 1980) I was so stunned i had to pull t9 the side of the road so I could listen properly

anameaday · 28/10/2025 21:36

Mine is 'Definition of Happy' by I am Roze.
I saw her perform it live and I was mesmerised.

She also has a cover of 'A change is gonna come' by Sam Cooke. The original of that gives me goosebumps.

Also 'A thousand years' by Christina Perri.

And 'Both sides now' by Joni Mitchell.
