To be annoyed that DS has "gifted us" over 1000 toilet rolls

They arrived by lorry today. We did not know they were coming. Now our spare bedroom is full of them and there are loads in the kitchen and living room as well. He said he got them as "a good deal from work" and he thought we would want them. But he forgot to tell us about it.

Why would you even let them be delivered to your house, you could have said no or not given permission for the delivery to be delivered. I don’t understand the thought process of letting this be delivered as it would surely take dozens of trips up and down the stairs and an extended period of time for the delivery to complete, you had ample time to think something isn’t right here. The time to act, has gone.

I imagine storing 100 loo rolls would be an issue let alone 1000. I don’t think cash and carries have that much loo roll in stock, it’s unnecessary. If no one has room in their house, you can look into storage units?

Costco sell toilet rolls in packs of 40 and certainly always have considerably more than 25 packs in stock. It's huge amount for a house but nothing for a cash and carry place.

EmotionallyWeird · 28/10/2025 19:36

I'm going to go against the flow here and say I think this is actually quite a thoughtful present - as long as you have enough space to physically store them. If not, what are his own living arrangements like? Could he look after some of them for you?

Freebus · 28/10/2025 19:37

Quilted velvet or sandpaper?

Tomorrowtodaywhenever · 28/10/2025 19:38

I used to order subscription toilet rolls. So a huge cardboard box came every two months, took a family or four two months to get through a box of I think 25 rolls. And yes I was sitting pretty during the covid toilet roll shortage 😂
If there are two of this will take a few years to get through 1000 rolls.
I hope you like the paper 😂

I'd have been very grateful - in 2020.
Still would be as my finances aren't great.

You could line your exterior-facing walls with them to save heating costs. Pad out your coat with TP insulation. Use them as tissues, cleansing wipes and kitchen roll. Win-win!

Terfedout · 28/10/2025 19:38

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 (sorry op but it's very funny)

Frostynoman · 28/10/2025 19:40

Loose or wrapped in packets?

lifeonthelane · 28/10/2025 19:42

Brilliant 🤣🤣🤣

ilovepixie · 28/10/2025 19:42

How much did they cost him? What brand are they? Are they loose or in packets? Bags? Boxes?

Foodieasfuck · 28/10/2025 19:42

Loft?

Keepit100 · 28/10/2025 19:43

my mum would love this and think it hilarious

Arlanymor · 28/10/2025 19:29

Oh yes! We used to call it 'tracing paper'... awful stuff. Not remotely absorbent. My mum used to send me to school with a small packet of paper tissues to use instead!

Fancy 😀 we had a teacher who used to give it out as tissues !

Bowies · 28/10/2025 19:44

Food bank(s) was a good idea upthread
I wouldn’t want to store more than 50!

CriticalOverthinking · 28/10/2025 19:44

What kind are we talking? Decent TP? How good was the deal? What did the driver say when he realised it wasn’t a business?

We get through about a roll a day, on average, as a 4 person household so 1000 is just over 2 1/2 years worth.
Savings somewhere in the £5-800 region over that period so quite the gift (assuming his deal was less than that).

Brahumbug · 28/10/2025 19:46

Time for a vindaloo 😁

HumphreyCushionintheHouse · 28/10/2025 19:47

Turn it into a game. Stack them into a leaning tower of Pisa, and an Eiffel Tower.

When full, this repurposed laundry box had 48 rolls in it. Two laundry boxes is not huge. While 20 laundry boxes full would be a little excessive for personal use it really isn't Costco quantities!

Judellie · 28/10/2025 19:47

Hope they're not the awful scented/coated ones at least!

DeanStockwelll · 28/10/2025 19:47

Well you won't need to buy any Christmas wrapping paper !

Branster · 28/10/2025 19:49

Let's hope it's not stock which did not pass quality control and that's why they were getting rid of it!!
Did he pay for the delivery truck?
A very practical long term present.
Please update as the supply level goes down so we can keep track. And we need thus thread updated until you get to the last roll please. It will take a few years 😁

FluFighters · 28/10/2025 19:50

I ended up in a similar situation once, but gradually. My dad used to work in a paper mill that manufactured toilet rolls amongst other things. He'd visit weekly and bring several large packs each time (seconds but you couldn't really tell). We ended up with packs EVERYWHERE, they were stacked wall to wall in the bathrooms, bedroom, filled the wardrobes, tops of the wardrobes, landing, shed etc. I was relieved when he retired 😂

Sad to say it doesn't last as long as you'd think, especially with 4 DC, with the price of loo roll I now miss those days

Chinsupmeloves · 28/10/2025 19:50

That must've been one hell of a deal! A bit excessive maybe but hey I'll take them off your hands...

Nelly91 · 28/10/2025 19:51

2catsandhappy · 28/10/2025 19:53

Stick it in the attic. Extra insulation?

Member869894 · 28/10/2025 19:53

Is he a hoarder? My ex dp was and I regularly used toget bizarre deliveries to my house
