Could there be stricter rules on dog ownership?

Thinking of getting a dog and came across this article? Could there be stricter rules and regulations on dog ownership?
Many, like the RVC, believe there should be. With so many pet dogs in society – a significant proportion of which have poor social and training skills – many feel there needs to be more interventions to emphasise the importance of responsible dog ownership. We are already seeing more restrictions on dogs in public spaces in the UK. Councils are frequently adopting Public Space Protection Orders, to ban dogs from areas such as public parks, beaches and even car parks.
This is largely as a result of too many people allowing their dogs to foul public spaces and creating tension by walking too many dogs at once. Indeed, in many towns and cities – especially in tourist areas, the numbers of people visiting with a dog has become vastly more noticeable.

Your post is, again, just about what humans want. Have you ever been to SE Asia for example? You'll see how dogs prefer to live there when left to it. In packs together, roaming totally free, approaching humans occasionally for food then retreating into the wild. People are totally delusional about how dogs would prefer to live if given the choice. It would not be in your average house with average sized garden, sorry. They are clearly happier better left relatively to their own devices with lots and lots of land to roam around on, based on their behaviour when they aren't turned into human pets

Having spent 50 years living with Livestock Guarding Dogs I can assure you that I absolutely do understand how dogs prefer to live. I am far from being the average pet owner with a dog sleeping on the bed and being fed cream cake. But a Chihuahua is not a Caucasian and not all dogs have the same instincts or the same needs. Dogs have been living and working alongside man for thousands of years and have adapted to living with us. Most of the modern pet breeds would not survive 10 minutes if left to fend for themselves.

You are anthropomorphising your dogs. They would be totally fine and probably happier left to it with large amounts of land to roam around on and each other for company.

They actually wouldn't. Are you confusing a Cavalier with a Caucasian? Cavaliers have been bred as companion dogs.

Clearly you are one of these a dog is a dog is a dog people who think the same rules apply to every dog, which clearly is nonsense.

I never knew people hated dogs so much.

The level of dog hate on mumsnet is disproportionate to reality.

Just dickwads trying to sound knowledgeable on the most part.

I live in a suburb of a big American city where there are strict rules on ownership of dogs and their deportment in public.

Dogs have to be registered at city hall, and in order to register, owners have to show proof of all vaccinations (wild animals carry rabies here) and also chipping.
No more than two dogs per address.
Dogs have to be leashed at all times when outdoors in front of their home.
Max two dogs walked together by the same person at any given time.
Dogs are not allowed on playgrounds. They can be in parks, leashed and fully under the control of their owners.
Owners are required to pick up poop after their dogs. Owners can be fined for violations.
Nuisance barking / howling/ whining is dealt with by a visit from Animal Control to discuss remedies for the dog, followed by fines If the problem persists.
There are three locked dog parks; owners register and pay a nominal annual fee for access to the dog parks (by scanning a card).

Sounds Amazing. Obviously suburb/neighbourhood housing officials are sensible people.

I cannot see why councils or City Mayors cannot set their own rules over dog ownership and maintenance here in the UK. Is like there's no sense.

Yet strangely some of these new posh builds with concierge's have strict rules regarding pet ownership and use of private gardens for residences.

That sounds excellent, surely we could do that here?

I have no fucking idea.

It doesn't seem to be a thing round my way, I've never seen a poo bag on a tree in the 34 years I've lived here.

We don't see it much here either. Rural Lancashire. There are plenty of poo bins and those are very well used.

@spidey66@Hellohelga i can’t see evidence of dog hating, just people asking that dog owners be respectful of those who don’t feel the same as you about dogs, or those that are scared, or those that are sick and tired of bad behaviour by dogs and their owners
