Dd wants to be an artist and is taking part in Sky Arts Portrait Artist of the Year! This was filmed back in Easter during her school holidays and is being aired tomorrow night. It's terrifying! I'm not sure if this can be viewed abroad - but I think probably not.
Yes, she is self-taught. She only started painting at 15 and could just do it. She did draw beforehand though, so that probably helped. This sort of painting isn't taught in school (or at unis, we're finding out!). She's had 5 days at an atelier as a present and another day at a drawing school. But really, she just has an instinct for it.

I absolutely love this show, the talent is just unbelievable and your DD looks to be up there with the best. Very excited to see how she gets on and who she has to paint!

Just - thank you, all. She had to have quite a long chat with a tv psychiatrist before filming and he went over all different scenarios, good and bad. I'm so reassured by the positivity here though. One thing that stuck with me that he said was - 'it's not going to be your best work'. I think that just reframed the outcome for her and she could accept that it's 4 hours, with a live audience and under cameras etc. I'm proud of her! Not purely for her talent, but for her work ethic, grit and lightness of manner.
