£15bn on hotels?

wineandagoodbook · 27/10/2025 08:16

While Rachel Reeves is trying to find £10-£30 billion by more taxes, we are spending £15bn on hotels for asylum seekers, it beggars beyond belief

You can’t forget this on each thread. You know about lorries and pre Brexit asylum peak already.

So tell me, what do you think caused the boat crossings?

And what do you suggest the government should do about it?

Serco pops up a lot.....

It does, doesn’t it…..🤔

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 27/10/2025 14:59

We are hemorrhaging money out and trying to rake it back in by punishing businesses and people that have the temerity to earn over 35k. It’s completely bizarre and the sooner we come under the control of the IMF the better.

randomchap · 27/10/2025 15:21

ChessBess · 27/10/2025 14:50

I disagree. We need a strong leader, someone that does what they say they will do. Someone that speaks for the majority and that isn’t scared to put the British tax payer first. It doesn’t fee like any of the previous governments (and certainly not the current one) have done that and now the British people are speaking and are holding them all to account. They’ll all be mincemeat at the next election as they’ve pushed people too far to return now and so Frage will almost certainly be the next PM.

Edited

A strong leader? Farage? You're having a laugh

You say that people want the taxpayer putting first. NF will put his backers first at the expense of British taxpayers.

He'll be selling off the nhs that was built and paid for by taxpayers.

He's nothing but a silk shirt stuffed with shit

suburburban · 27/10/2025 15:22

HansHolbein · 27/10/2025 12:21

Yep, courtesy of the taxpayer. Next month, Rachel will extort more money from us to continue to pay for it.

You can’t complain about it though, because it’s makes you a racist.

Well, I fucking hate it. I am sick of this country being a big old charity case. Charity needs to start at home and people need to start taking responsibility for themselves and their lives. If that makes me a racist or any other ist, I’m happy to be called a racist/ist.

I’ll await the @‘s.

So do I

you are not alone

RR makes we seethe along with KS

I have told you, on other threads. Suffocation in lorries led to public outcry and clamp down on that method of entry. You can remember for the next thread I’m sure.

On what to do try looking at successful countries who’ve resolved it.

Yes, just when will the Tories take ownership of their mistake in implementing this policy, as well as taking us out of the EU and therefore the Dublin Agreement?

This all day long.

Immigration generally has reduced under Labour, if that's what floats your boat so to speak. The backlog of asylum decisions has been reduced - that was a deliberate decision of the Tories to cut Home Office staff.

TopPocketFind · 27/10/2025 15:26

The Falkland Islands aren't happy with Reform's proposal for sending asylum seekers there

Gibraltar has already said it will play no part in such plan.

Does Farage have any other ideas on how to reduce accommodation cost?

And you think Starmer is a strong leader do you? Don’t make me laugh. He’s got about as much clout as a chicks feather!

I actually wouldn’t chose to vote for Reform because I’m not keen on all of their ideas, but I’m so disillusioned with the last few years that I’m willing to vote for him. I think I’m the majority. From what I’ve seen and heard from people around meant are also planning to vote for him such is the shit show we that this country is in right now

Channel crossings are up. Which obviously is the opposite to Starmer’s smash the gangs.

I said nothing about Starmer. Just about the dangers of voting for that gobshite and his band of merry wreckers.

This government has made everything worse since coming in. Defending it is madness.

Small boats are higher. National debt is up, debt repayments are up. Gilt yields are worse. Unemployment is up. Taxes are higher. Businesses are exiting the UK. As are top rate taxpayers.

What a start.

Well that's what we get for a Labour government Hmm
The last lot were of course appalling and had to go, but what a shame there wasn't something better to replace them with

Look at other countries, you mean Australia?

Don't you ever wonder why such a plan has not been implemented in the UK?

I remember that you have so far failed to counteract that Brexit played a huge factor in the rise of boat crossings.

I am glad people no longer suffocate in lorries, now we have to stop people drowning in the Channel.

In the mean time, do you agree that we need a functioning asylum process?

caringcarer · 27/10/2025 15:33

Be careful OP you are not supposed to criticize money spent on illegal immigrants on MN. The problem is the judges seem to follow KS book about how to interpret ECHR he wrote when CP. It makes me sick when RR picks in the disabled and elderly just so KS can throw money at illegals, especially the ones who have committed crimes which are often sexual in nature and hate the UK and British girls.

What do you think the government should do then? Leave asylum seekers on the beach?

But the Tories and Labour have been in power for years and years and no other party has had a look in. They all blame each other for the state we’re in so another Tory government isn’t going to help is it? Labours pissed their voters off so what’s the opinion? They’ve all been useless. It’s the same old shit regardless of who gets in.

I have countered it read the pp.

Re not doing it so far the public are behind Aus and seem to think chaotic and risky asylum system is necessary. It’s not.

In the last 15 years, the Tories have been in power for 14 of them

Just because Reform hasn't ever been in power it doesn't mean they'll be any good.

I don't disagree, @caringcarer, but all governments fling wasted money at the demographic they favour, whether that's asylum seekers with this bunch or cronies with the previous one, so really it's pick your poison

And I guess this wasn't the best day to have received my 2024/25 tax assessment (!!) but at least it's a bit more for Rachel to throw away ...

JoyintheMorning · 27/10/2025 15:44

Boris was certainly at fault for setting up the system in this way. But Starmer could have changed it by now and should be showing us how he will end it.
He isn't though is he? He just stands around and wrings his hands and listens to his bestie Hermer.
Do the maths! That £15Bn + The Chagos money and Rachel would not need to hit us with another budget.
With his majority he could get anything through HOC in a week. A bit of pressure and HoL would comply as well.

Bye bye NHS, worker's protection, environmental standards, maternity pay, abortion rights etc

Farage is the face of disaster capitalism. His billionaire backers will strip this country of anything of value, all while being cheered on by those who's lives he is damaging.

He'll be an absolute catastrophe

Half a million net immigration a year under Labour adding the city the size of Leeds to the population each year.
