£15bn on hotels?

wineandagoodbook · 27/10/2025 08:16

While Rachel Reeves is trying to find £10-£30 billion by more taxes, we are spending £15bn on hotels for asylum seekers, it beggars beyond belief

@Bagsintheboot @Whatafustercluck

Leaving the Dublin Agreement didn’t make the slightest bit of difference. The stats are publically available if you want to fact check.

Apologies for any spelling mistakes, I’m typing this without my glasses on, so it’s all a bit of a blur.

@WilfredsPiesyes you’re correct. It’s a shame this has grown as misinformation.

Follow. The. Money.

Always.

the contracts were agreed under the Tory government……who are the stakeholders here?

Serco pops up a lot.....

This government is a farce. They are incapable of taking action on so many issues

It wasn't this government that stopped processing immigrants and just let the numbers in hostels (formerly hotels) increase. Guess there's some hotel owners making a pretty penny.

Bambamhoohoo · 27/10/2025 13:01

the report appears to refer to a 10 year cost of £15bn.

the deficit RR needs to fill is annual

Agreed. Everyone wants the cost to be lower. However in context:
Its a 10 year cost so assume £1.5b per year
Which is only a small amount compared to the budget gap (various figures quoted but let's say £40bn pa)
I am pretty sure it comes out of Overseas aid budget as well. Yes of course its all taxpayers money but its overseas aid that is hit the most

The Dublin agreement was still better than nothing, as in the no deal Brexit.

Same with the France return agreement, better than the Rwanda plan that cost a lot and did nothing.

And ofcourse a working asylum processing system would save a lot of tax payers money

ChessBess · 27/10/2025 14:24

I think a safe to say the majority of the British public are sick of it. I’d bet my house on Reform winning the next general election, because it’s clear as day this government isn’t going to stop the boats. No wonder we’re the laughing stock of the world.

Channel crossings are up this year, how is the France deal better?

Yanbu maybe Starmer will do as he says and smash the gangs and they won’t be needed.

Absolute farce

I note that stupid line has quietly been forgotten. Time to admit Labour has lost control of the economy, lost control of immigration and lost the confidence of the public. Starmer needs to resign.

It’s the assumption that the migrants themselves will go along with this deal that makes me laugh! They’ve already been in France, there’s a reason they jumped on a small boat to come to the UK. Who in their right mind thinks that any of them will say ‘ok, fair enough, I’ll stay in Paris’ when they’re told that we have this agreement?

Reform will make us an absolute laughing stock.

Farage et al are just the faces of the disaster capitalists who want to strip this country bare. You'll lose the NHS, workers protections, holiday and maternity pay. Environmental protections will disappear.

They are not in any way patriotic, and will rip out everything good about this country and give it to their backers.

You think it's bad now, wait until those charlatans get in

Whatafustercluck · 27/10/2025 08:20

Yes, just when will the Tories take ownership of their mistake in implementing this policy, as well as taking us out of the EU and therefore the Dublin Agreement?

@Whatafustercluck , The Conservatives were justifiably kicked out; Labour came in to office promising the earth and have failed to deliver their exit can’t come soon enough. No one absolutely no one is taken in by their policy of blaming everyone else for their endless list of failures.

Asylum seekers have been returned, Rwanda plan sent back 2 volunteers.

No party is going to stop the boats, don't you agree that we need a working asylum process instead of demonising refugees?

They’ve been swapped you mean. It’s one in one out.

How does that help if channel crossings keep going up? Which they are.

TheGrimSmile · 27/10/2025 14:44

This whole shitshow has been caused by Farage. Thanks to him we left the EU and we are no longer able to just send them back. He did it deliberately to make it a bigger problem so he has something to whip people up about. I'm sick of hearing about the bloody boats. In the scheme of things we have much bigger problems. Farage knows what he is doing. He doesn't care about the boats, he just wants to get in power to make him and his cronies even richer than they already are (at our expense) Just like Trump. And all the fucking idiots are falling for it.

You are aware that we left the EU without any agreements in place? No access to the security database for instance.

So yes, any agreement is better than what Brexit gave us which was nothing.

There were no boat crossing recorded before 2018.

What a fucking mess this country is in.

Isn't it just. People have had enough. I'm honestly surprised more people aren't protesting but then on every episode of question time etc the whole audiences just seem to be pro immigration. I just don't understand it.

You know about asylum in early 2000s already, it was peak asylum via lorries. @WilfredsPiesis correct.

As I said we need a working asylum process.

We can't just return people without an agreement. We signed up to to 1952 Refugee Convention, we have responsibilities.

What do you suggest?

Who ‘sends them back’ within the EU? To any extent that helps.

Does ROI? Or have you noticed the news from Dublin.

I disagree. We need a strong leader, someone that does what they say they will do. Someone that speaks for the majority and that isn’t scared to put the British tax payer first. It doesn’t fee like any of the previous governments (and certainly not the current one) have done that and now the British people are speaking and are holding them all to account. They’ll all be mincemeat at the next election as they’ve pushed people too far to return now and so Frage will almost certainly be the next PM.

Whammyammy · 27/10/2025 14:50

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 27/10/2025 08:54

Poor people getting fleeced to enable people to come here and commit crime. At least this is how it feels at the minute. I know not all asylum seekers commit crime but why are certain groups pushing people here?

Its exactly how it is. We are one of the highest taxed in Europe. Our services are poor and under funded, dreading RR next budget too, all so we can fund this hotel lifestyle of asylum seekers.
However someone will be along to call you a bigoted right wing racist in a minute....
