To be a bit stunned by Lily Allen’s new album

Oooofff. I mean it might as well be called Fuck You David Harbour, You Cheating Bastard. Safe to say she’s set a new bar for diaristic songwriting. I feel so sad for her, I know she’s not everyone’s favourite person but it’s always been clear that all she wanted was to love and be loved and she seemed so happy with him- he popped up on her podcast with Miquita Oliver a few times and seemed so genuine in the way he spoke about her… for it to all collapse in such spectacularly public and hideous fashion must have been awful to endure, so I don’t blame her for working through it by going back to what she does best but still… blimey. I feel like I’ve been spying in their bedroom or something after listening to it!

If you had any kind of critical thinking ability you would understand the provocation.

Oh get you - you're "provoking a debate" - your point is still nonsense. If you had any critical thinking you'd see that.

I would say I actively dislike Lily. And I wanted to like her, I listended to their podcast thinking now I'm older, and a bit wiser I might see her in a different light, but I just don't. However, you can dislike someone and acknowledge that they've been treated fucking horribly by the most vile men. She seems to have more than her fair share of that. I'm going to check out her album now.

Maybe so, but then she was cheating on her partner(s) multiple times, with sex workers. I think I remember a song she released about how small an exes penis was. Imagine this behaviour from a man. She’s incredibly entitled and doesn’t seem to have any self awareness at all

whymewhyme · 26/10/2025 05:33

I think the album is bloody awful, no idea what all the fuss is about.

notthisagain2025 · 26/10/2025 05:34

AngeloMysterioso · 24/10/2025 12:15

Wasn’t she pretty deep into her drug/alcohol addiction at the time?

So she was a druggy who fucked prostitutes? Her poor ex.

I've never listened to her music, sounds like she needs a lot of therapy.

If Lily had gone the same way as Amy, no way would I be calling her pioneering and brutally honest. 🙄 What a weird thing to suggest. I would never be a fan of hers, and suddenly start praising her if she was no longer here.

And she lives a rock and roll lifestyle? LOL, hardly! She's not a rock star. She is a talentless nepo baby. And no, she is not disliked by some because she's not a man. 🙄

Try to write a pop song and I guarantee you won't think she's talentless anymore...

Chickadee001 · 26/10/2025 04:25

Surely she's no better or worse than Taylor Swift who apparently sees every conquest as song material? What will she use for material when she's married?!
Can't say I follow her but being a dance Mom her music is sadly unavoidable!

Why people feel the need to air their dirty washing in public is beyond me!

Can't believe people are still using phrases like 'airing dirty laundry in public' in 2025. A very repressed and unhealthy attitude.

“think you've wandered here from the 1950s and got lost”

If you disagree you would say that wouldn’t you?
perhaps you are right but I still not feel it’s right for a child to know about her mothers sexual exploits. Look at Lily Allen’s Dad …. Didn’t do her any good did it.
in 1950s women did have abortions, had sex, did all the things she has BUT they didn’t flaunt it to their offspring. How embarrassing at school!!!

Edited

LA's children will already know a weirdly large amount of stuff about her personal life as it's been splashed all over the tabloids for decades, so their situation is a bit different

Most abortions don't involve anaesthesia.

Medical advice is irrelevant here, she can have as many abortions as she wants or needs, as can you.

Why is everyone forgetting to mention that these abortions cost our nhs millions each year? I’ve had one with zero shame when I was very young. It wasn’t pleasant and because I have a social conscience and care about our dying public services I wouldn’t gratuitously have another or use it as contraception. I don’t think that makes me anti feminist 🙄

There’s such a thing as going privately.

What Lily chooses to do with her body is up to her.

The judgement anc shaming on this thread is shocking.

GreenFriedTomato · 24/10/2025 12:45

I've never had thoughts about her either way.
That podcast where she laughed and bragged about how many abortions she'd had made me feel sick though

Yes that was awful - using abortion as contraception was very poor role modelling and casually laughing about it was abhorrent

jonnybriggswasgreat · 26/10/2025 06:54

It’s all P.R to sell her album, isn’t it? These ‘revelations’ won’t damage him. It’s her kids who I feel sorry for. All these tawdry stories… I can’t imagine it would have been enjoyable at the school playground in the days after it emerged that mummy used sex workers.

Holluschickie · 26/10/2025 06:59

I'd rather women use abortions as contraception- which I am uncertain she did anyway- than have unwanted children.
People who believe abortion is destroying early human life needn't have them. The rest of us can. I will save my vitriol for shit men who won't use condoms and leave contraception to women. Anyone who looks to Lily as a role model needs their head examined, anyway.

I have never had one, btw. I am a conservative S Asian married to the same man for nearly 30 years. But if I had been pregnant when I didn't want to be, I would certainly have one without all this guilt we are supposed to feel.

NormasArse · 26/10/2025 07:07

I wish I hadn’t read this thread. I used to quite like her music, but I didn’t know anything about her….

Holluschickie · 26/10/2025 07:14

Also anyone who says " I am pro-choice but"... isn't really pro-choice. Either you support abortions or not. Not just carefully considered abortions in the appropriate number while feeling terribly guilty.

That’s very reductive.

Nope. I am pro abortion up to 20 weeks and not after and thus have just proven your statement wrong.

Not even the tiniest bit interested in a debate on why that's my personal cut off because you know my stance entirely and I know yours entirely.

However, I am pro abortion BUT not after 20 weeks means I am pro abortion up to 20 weeks.

Not that I am anti abortion at any stage.

So you're incorrect.

Taylor Swift wrote a song about her fiancé's dick ffs )))

Who is sharing "everything to everyone"? You are overreacting.

Thegrassroots26 · 26/10/2025 08:47

I’ve been reading this thread from the beginning and I honestly think it’s gone in an odd direction. So many posters are now just here to personally assassinate Lily’s character and her life choices. Not sure that was at all the purpose of the thread.

SapphireSeptember · 26/10/2025 08:49

I'd like to remind people that not all women who've had abortions are doing it because of an unwanted pregnancy. Some very much want their babies but because of a risk to their own life (eg. ectopic pregnancies) or because the baby won't survive being born or won't live for long afterwards they choose to terminate the pregnancy. So yes, joking about how many abortions you've had is pretty awful, and a woman listening to that who had to make a very hard choice may well have found it upsetting. I certainly find it grim.

ReceiveIt · 26/10/2025 08:51

It's incredibly hard for 90s/00s artists to have another hit album over 20 years later. Many have tried and failed!

This album seems like its going to do well so fair play to her for that. Does anyone know if she wrote it herself?

I find the whole PR thing fascinating and how some celebs can rebuild their brand into something 'cool' and relevant while others come off as desperate and out of touch Katy Perry. Her comeback began with the podcast and lots of little stories strategically released to the media over the last year. She then managed to turn a failed marriage into a hit album. Whatever you think of her personal choices, she's a hell of a business woman and/or has an outstanding manager.

Have very hard, strong boundaries.

I agree @PinkPanther57 and I am that way but like I said, it’s never that simple is it? Witness the wealthy, rich and famous Lily Allen getting ruined by this idiot. Expectations have changed for good, especially in these privileged circles.

I don"t believe that Lily Allen needs to take responsibility for anyone else's situation, however sad.
