To want Prince Andrew to lose his title and go to prison?

Fandango52 · 21/10/2025 00:28

I read an extract at the weekend of Virginia Giuffre’s book and it really shocked me. I was aware - like lots of people - of her case against Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell and Prince Andrew, and also watched Emily Maitlis’s interview with Prince Andrew when it came out a few years ago.

We know that Epstein and Maxwell went to prison and I think Andrew should also go to prison. He raped Virginia Giuffre and lied about this, repeatedly denying he had actually met her. This would definitely lead to criminal charges for non-royals (even if the case was later dropped, as it often is with rape - which is another story).

I know it’s likely Andrew won’t go to prison - mainly because he is a prince - and I find that so grim. I know he’s lost some of his titles, like his dukedom, but I don’t think that is enough.

I have no connection to the case at all and no reason to be particularly invested in it, apart from the fact it’s shocking and quite unique, and because I think it’s hugely unjust that Andrew probably won’t be brought to justice because he was born royal.

AIBU to think Andrew should at least be tried in court - and if found guilty, should lose his titles and go to prison?

He's not even lost his titles, he's just not going to use them. Absolutely sham, but then it tracks, doesn't it.

Could you honestly sleep nights, knowing that someone had been locked up, deprived of their freedom, without you knowing whether he deserved it or not?

We may be regressing on some fronts at the moment but we don't need a modern day prince in the tower. This is not the 15th century.

Not in my name anyway.

I absolutely support the rights of women, but not by shredding the rights of others in the process.

What about trafficked women used to have sex with powerful men. Andrew did claim he never met her.

FamousSideeye · 21/10/2025 02:13

Dont forget Queen Elizabeth ll is widely reported as having helped Prince Andrew pay for his out of court settlement with Giuffre when they reached an out-of-court settlement in 2022. I wonder what she was trying to achieve by that.
The Royal Family have never confirmed or denied that this happened even after it was reported in all the newspapers and on TV.

Its time for the Royal Family to step down. They are not people to be respected.

I’m sorry to have got that wrong. I’ve read some articles saying he lost his titles and some saying he gave them up. It looks like he has voluntarily given them up but could still use them if he wanted (presumably because he was born royal - although I’m just speculating that this is the reason). Sarah Ferguson has lost her title though, I think, as she just had it through marriage.

A trial in a court would be a way of finding out if Andrew was guilty or not. Granted, our justice system in the U.K. isn’t perfect, but it does have a lot of safeguards and checks to ensure that miscarriages of justice are very rare.

Andrew will never go to America to stand trial for what he did.

No, I agree. VG did bring a lawsuit against him a few years ago - as I mention earlier - and Andrew paid her £12m, as reported in the media, so that’s probably the closest thing to justice that will be achieved. Which is horrible.

It's not your fault, the media and social media keep reporting it like that. I guess because it sounds more dramatic.
I wasn't criticising you, I'm fed up of him and the whole royal family tbh, for shielding him, tolerating him and enabling him all these years.
They're the epitome of entitled, and not just literally!

harveythehorse · 21/10/2025 02:23

There are some extremely upsetting chapters in her book (in fact the whole book is a challenging read) and the 'Prince' doesn't fare well in any of them. He shouldn't have been allowed to give up his titles, he should have had them removed and the Government should, at this point, make it a formal decision to take away every single one of his formalities. It was perfectly obvious he was lying in that Maitlis interview but nobody was brave enough to bloody call him out because he's 'Royal'. I was a huge fan of our late Queen but the way she protected him and the way Charles continues to do so makes me wonder whether we should have a Presidency.

The work ethic of our late Queen and her daughter simply doesn't exist amongst the current throng (obviously I am taking the King's illness into consideration).

I don't think tarring everyone with the same brush is reasonable, and I'm not a royalist... Economy wise the whole concept brings a lot of financial gain to the UK every year. Personally I think Charles should have stepped aside (but there's no way he ever would have)...

I don't think we can bring the younger Royals into account as this wasn't frankly their shit show of their own making (aside from Harry).

Very charitable of him to give £12m to someone he never met, eh?

I completely agree that he should be tried. I imagine it would pan out pretty similarly as for Alex Salmond, even his own lawyer knew he did it, but no conviction.

I would also be happy to never see him again though. Unfortunately, we were not awarded that privilege with Alex Salmond. The loss of titles and removal from public events is a good start.

I hope he faces a trial in court. I would like him to. I agree with you, however, that it’s unlikely.

There has to be enough evidence to actually warrant a trial. Otherwise anyone can accuse anyone else of anything and they can get a court date

Bowies · 21/10/2025 02:58

She was a child PLUS was also in a trusted position as a member of the royal family.

She isn’t the only witness there are 3rd parties and at least one other victim who testified against him.

He’s proven to have lied in his interview about his continued enmeshment with JE.

He’s a liability to the country and should lose all titles and be removed from the royal estate.

MolvolioPortesque · 21/10/2025 03:00

What happened to the process of law? To innocent until proven guilty? Have the standards of 'beyond all reasonable doubt" been met?

I don't think they have. It is his word against hers.

Did she write that book, to maximise her financial legacy for her family? Did she exaggerate through anger and trauma? Did she tell the absolute truth? As she saw it, or as it was? Was her book a final act of revenge? I don't know and neither do you.

Just because you don't like someone, because he is an arrogant entitled fool and you are jealous of the advantages he has had in life, does not make him a criminal. Proof is needed to deprive someone of their freedom.

I prefer to live in a country where being sent to prison depends on a high standard of proof, and it applies to everyone equally. Trial by broadsheet is nothing to aspire to.

I recall another of Epstein's girls telling how.Virginia had come.bursting into the room , bragging excitedly that she'd been with a prince which doesn't sound as if she was traumatised.
It is true that she was paid to keep her mouth shut -because of the possibility of a sex scandal.in the year of the Queen"s Jubilee. But was there a rape? It is also true that to make lots of money she had to present as dramatic an account as possible in her book.
Same question was it a rape?
I doubt anyone will ever know for.sure what happened. All that is certain is that Andrew is a sleaze and that from her photograph she was too young and vulnerable for him.

I’ve said elsewhere, plain old Andrew Mountbatten Windsor from here on out. Take the girls’ Princess titles and HRH away too, they can go by Lady like their cousin Louise who is also a Princess(they won’t). They are not their parents obviously but they have benefitted from their mum and dad’s seediness over the years, no doubt. Let it be the most painful of lessons to arrogant old Andy. They can use this shame to slim down the titles like the Danish have recently done.

Honestly, I don't think victim blaming kids of potential pedophiles helps anyone really? Just because they're wealthy doesn't make it any better than Joe Bloggs family getting bricks hoyed through the front window either 😬

Add in the fact that it's all based on "allegations", and whilst I'm not defending him. Neither has there been an actual court of law stating that he raped/sexually abused/took advantage of her.

If we turn into a country of trial by media, then we're all potentially screwed. And if we start clamping down on what all our own kids are eligible or not for based on heresy. Then a lot of us might find our kids a bit screwed too.

logplant · 21/10/2025 04:36

I don’t think being a Prince has saved him - he seems to be the only man ne of Epstein’s friends who had had to answer for his behaviour.

IamNotBeingUnreasonable · 21/10/2025 05:15

Fandango52 · 21/10/2025 02:07

Yes, I understand, but his case would probably be investigated if he was ‘any old Joe’. As it is, it wasn’t and won’t be (not in the U.K. courts). I just want the U.K. courts to try him - and, partly because VG and Epstein are now dead, and partly because of his position, he likely won’t ever be tried.

How could the UK courts try him when he didn't commit any crime in the UK?

What's your source for this other girl? Another girl who was presumably also trafficked and abused.

Virginia Giuffre deserved every single penny that the Queen paid her, she was horrifically treated and if Andrew didn't have the Royal family behind him, he'd have been in prison a long time ago. It seems highly likely he committed sex crimes in the UK but he seems woefully above the law.

WaryHiker · 21/10/2025 05:34

Having sex with a trafficked woman is still a crime in the UK, whether or not she is or over the age of consent.

thankgoditssaturday · 21/10/2025 05:49

VG can’t have thought it would go to court. If she had it may have given the poor woman some hope. He is an odious vile character. Protected by his mother for most of his life. A trial is too good for him.

MumoftwoNC · 21/10/2025 05:54

I think you're naive op if you think a non-royal would definitely be criminally charged, and that he's being let off because he's royal.

Non-royal men also get away with sexual crimes all the bloody time. And even if it's found they're guilty, often get away with absurdly short sentences.

Viviennemary · 21/10/2025 05:57

If its suspected he has committed a crime (which it looks like he well may have) then he should face a trial like anybody else. He should not continue to live at Royal Lodge and should be stripped of all titles including Prince. And kicked out the country along with his sidekick Fergie.

id Prefer his removal from public life, his titles and his house. Let him live in the suburbs on his naval pension.

His naval pension is in excess of £200k per year. He only worked for 20 years.
