Motherfucking fireworks

How is this allowed past 8pm, I don't understand.

Cat is terrified, kid took 2 hours to get to sleep only to be woken up 10 min ago by more frigging fireworks.

how on earth is this still allowed??

I hate this time of year.

It's f** triggering. These twats should go and help in Gaza, I'm sure they would not be firing frigging fireworks after that experience !!

thanks for listening :( :( :(

It is Diwali. It is a known date for fireworks, just like Nov 5th.

Justcallmedaffodil · 20/10/2025 22:31

I’d be in complete support of banning them for general sale. Personally, I’d see them banned altogether, but appreciate some people enjoy them and a reasonable compromise would be to license them for public displays only. No idea why that still hasn’t happened yet.

abracadabra1980 · 20/10/2025 22:32

I feel the same. I have to sedate my dog from the moment the shops start selling them. It’s about a six week ordeal in my house. I used to love the sparklers and Catherine wheels when I was young but now I fucking hate them - they have gone up in decibel levels hugely and are much louder than in years gone by. Having seen how they terrify both domestic pets and wildlife, I’d be happy to see them banned unless in a public display. How they cope at Battersea during Oct, Nov and New Year (plus all the other religious festivals) is beyond me.

er .. thanks for enlightening me... I know it's Diwali... I live in London. In fact I attended a Diwali party yesterday, but their fireworks stopped at 7pm. Can it just not be kept under control? And kept within some normal hours???

If you know it's Diwali then surely you can take some preventative measures like calming tablets for the cat, white noise for the child.

Fireworks aren't every night. They are at certain predictable times of the year.

If they were going until 2am you'd have a point. Before 11pm though isn't ridiculous.

EchoedSilence · 20/10/2025 22:39

They go on far later than 11 around here.

CleancleanallIdoisclean · 20/10/2025 22:41

You hate fireworks and find them triggering but attended a party with fireworks yesterday?

Wednesdaysotherchild · 20/10/2025 22:41

I had my baby in a central london hospital right next to a major NYE fireworks display. My baby was born a bit after NYE but the midwives told me how scared all the newborns in NICU were when the loud bangs went off close by. I will now always think of that when I see the fireworks on TV…

XenoBitch · 20/10/2025 22:47

Er, so your cat is only terrified by fireworks after 8pm? And not by the ones that were going off at the party you attended.

Ahh I had mine in that hospital too! The day after was the London marathon and I watched all the frontrunners come over the bridge from my room.

Sandrine1982 · 20/10/2025 22:50

@CleancleanallIdoisclean Yes I attended a Diwali party hosted by my best friend yesterday. Fireworks were not the main point of the party, but they had some. They stopped at 7pm.

@Bagsintheboot I don't think it's reasonable to have fireworks past 8pm. That's why I hate NYE too. People shouldn't have to suffer other people's noise, especially noise like this. It's unbearable. It's horrible. Especially when one is trying to sleep.

Fireworks need to be banned outside public displays. Horrible dangerous polluting things.

Harriet9955 · 20/10/2025 22:53

We are in an area with high Asian population and it's absolutely dreadful. just mortar bomb type fireworks going off for hours on end. Someone counted their neighbours setting off 200+ one after another. I appreciate it's Diwali and organised firework displays have been cancelled this year on the golden mile due to safety concerns but this is crazy. Fortunately my dh has been able to take my dog out in the car into the countryside for a couple of hours this evening. He gets himself in such a state it's heartbreaking. people on out local fb page are saying they have had to take their neurodiverse young children away form the area as they are so terrified.

I completely agree with you and I'm Indian and celebrate Diwali but we stop the fireworks at 7pm and only really do them for the children. I would be happy for them to be banned and would prefer a licensed firework display instead.

the past two night we have had them going off past 2am. me and dh have had little sleep for two nights as terrified dog runs between rooms, scratches doors etc

Glindaa · 20/10/2025 22:56

I’m in favour of a complete ban. As a child they hurt my ears. As an adult I just find them unnecessary and think an LED light display with music is better. It’s not fair on pets and wildlife .

Edenmum2 · 20/10/2025 22:57

I don’t remember them being quite so nuclear bomb like when we were kids.

It was our towns bonfire night on Saturday and we live half a mile away and they still literally physically shook our house. At 10pm. 3 year old terrified, cats hiding in cupboards, stress all round.

Makeitstop2025 · 20/10/2025 22:58

I'm Indian and celebrated Diwali today but I am cursing the inconsiderate families in my area who were setting them off at 10.15 tonight. There is no excuse, it's dark now way before 7pm so there is really no need to wait until the majority of the country are fast asleep. Same goes for Bonfire Night.

Fines or licences are the only solutions

Bruisername · 20/10/2025 22:58

My dog isn’t well and is in pain. Had his painkiller and was settling down when the sodding fireworks started and scared the living daylights out of him. He’s not normally bothered but I guess he’s sensitive tonight.

saturday night they were going off at 1am

noiseless fireworks are a thing - the noisy ones should be banned

Staringintothevoid616 · 20/10/2025 23:01

The only dates fireworks should be allowed is Nov 5 and the Saturdays either side.- organised events only. Or a well publicised public event eg a national celebration.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 20/10/2025 23:02

Why the Gaza chat? I don't think it's unreasonable to have fireworks a few nights a year.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 20/10/2025 23:03

Why is it only triggering past 8pm? And does your cat get less scared before 8pm? How can it tell the time??

They are still going off now and will be until the early hours. I do think people should stop at 11.

The problem is that you can't really pick and choose like that. My dog is just as bothered by them at 6pm as she is at 11pm. It does seem hypocritical to start a thread stating that your cat is terrified, it's effing triggering etc., but then have a get-out clause suggesting "but it's okay for my friends to have them before 7pm".
No it is not okay. It is never okay to have motherfucking fireworks, as you put it. And your thread is misleading.
