Motherfucking fireworks

How is this allowed past 8pm, I don't understand.

Cat is terrified, kid took 2 hours to get to sleep only to be woken up 10 min ago by more frigging fireworks.

how on earth is this still allowed??

I hate this time of year.

It's f** triggering. These twats should go and help in Gaza, I'm sure they would not be firing frigging fireworks after that experience !!

thanks for listening :( :( :(

There is only a small amount you can do for pets. Yup tv/ radio on.

Remedies that you have been through all of them at significant cost only limited effectiveness. The sound of a firework is very loud and distinctive. The above does not work. Well not for my cat. Ive spent a fortune trying to help her. I will continue to do so and hope something actually helps her.

  1. It's Diwali, so there's a clear reason for them and you know when they'll be and can plan accordingly.
  2. The biggest public celebration (Leicester) was cancelled due to safety fears. So people can't just go to public celebrations. There are also far fewer of them.
  3. Because Diwali is a new year celebration, they can go until 1 am, just like all new year celebrations in this country.

If we're going to get rid of one of the fireworks days, I vote for New Year which only recently acquired fireworks or Bonfire Night which celebrates a failed attempt to kill the king in 1604 and is therefore far less culturally significant.

So basically get rid of everything the white people enjoy?

captainoctopus · 20/10/2025 23:44

I love fireworks. Great fun... great fun just for a few hours during the year.
I don't love pet cats that are allowed outside killing native wildlife 24 hours a day, every day of the year. (And shitting in other people's gardens) I would love cats to be restricted to their owners' property by law. They do actual harm, rather than (on the whole) inconvenience.
Nb. Pet dogs survived WW2. Many hate thunderstorms. Your pet is your problem.

Sandrine1982 · 20/10/2025 23:47

Ban fireworks full stop. Diwali, Bonfire or New Year. I don't care. @harveythehorse please don't ... my post was not about that...

I think fireworks should be for licenced displays only.

I have a dog who is a cowering wreck tonight.

But I still voted YABU for bringing Gaza into it as that was both crass and very stupid.

MidnightMeltdown · 21/10/2025 00:01

Agree, fireworks should not be available for the general public to buy. Don’t even get me started on the fuckers who just randomly set them off in the street.

🤣🤣🤣

You do realise that fireworks terrify and kill wildlife too, as well as causing animals to abort pregnancies? Take your batshit cat rant elsewhere.

DiscoBeat · 21/10/2025 00:07

It would be good if only quiet fireworks were allowed for sale to the public, and only to be let off at Diwali and the nearest weekend to the 5th. Then at least people would know when to bring their animals in and sedate them or comfort them.

Livelovebehappy · 21/10/2025 00:19

Be grateful you don’t live in Bradford. We have fireworks every single night. And sometimes bizarrely during day time too. Weddings for the Muslim community. We have lots of space given to the subject on our community media boards with complaints, but nothing gets done unfortunately. So we all have ear plugs here….my thoughts are that fireworks sgould be allowed a week either side of Diwali, Bonfire night and New Year. Banned all other times.

changed12 · 21/10/2025 00:20

I hate them too, our old dog used to smell them in the air and start shaking. Poor wildlife. And the fuckwits that let them off during the day!!?? Why?? Ban them all

boatyardblues · 21/10/2025 00:24

There are still fireworks going off in my neighbourhood now. 😖

TheSilentSister · 21/10/2025 00:28

Ok, may be shot down in flames, but what about thunderstorms and lightning. We can't ban them. Wildlife seems to cope with that, not heard anything to the contrary. It may be the case but no one bangs on about it.
I've lived in the country, where guns go off, and I've lived in towns where random shit/police sirens/fireworks goes off. So I think you're either tolerant or not, same as your pets.

Also I think it was 1605, not 1604.

Soonenough · 21/10/2025 00:34

Dreading next week when schools are off. Halloween is the excuse for it now. Since when was this commemorated by fireworks ? There is one particular household in my area that often seem to have random evenings of fireworks. No idea where but always comes from the same direction .

Completely different- have you heard either fireworks or thunderstorms??

HauntedBungalow · 21/10/2025 00:38

I think I see what your problem is OP. You want fireworks to happen only at the time and place you wish to see them - specifically at your friend's house yesterday at 7pm - but not at any other time or place. Alas, you are surrounded by other people who also want fireworks to happen at a time and place that suits them. And these times and places are all different.

I'm not sure what the answer is other than a private island.

Completely different. Thunderstorms have plenty of warning signs which animals pick up on and are prepared for. It’s completely different and natural noise for them.
Fireworks however are completely unpredictable, unnatural and frightening for so many people and animals. They are totally unnecessary and anti social. There is zero justification for members of the public having access to explosives.
They should be banned for all but public displays and licensed operators working under strict conditions.

HauntedBungalow · 21/10/2025 00:54

Well the little yapping blighters near me don't seem to be particularly bothered by loud noises, else maybe they'd stfu every now and then.

PalePinkPeony · 21/10/2025 00:58

Sandrine1982 · 20/10/2025 22:50

@CleancleanallIdoisclean Yes I attended a Diwali party hosted by my best friend yesterday. Fireworks were not the main point of the party, but they had some. They stopped at 7pm.

@Bagsintheboot I don't think it's reasonable to have fireworks past 8pm. That's why I hate NYE too. People shouldn't have to suffer other people's noise, especially noise like this. It's unbearable. It's horrible. Especially when one is trying to sleep.

Oh diddy diddums. So butt hurt by a few fireworks a few times per year.
Do you know what I think should be banned or at least licenced. Bloody dog owning. Dirty pooing out of control dogs pretty much everywhere I want to go, and now including shops, cafes and today the flipping swimming pool there was a dog (not medical: working dog either)
But no, those of us that don’t want dogs running up to us and trying to avoid dog shit haven’t got a choice do we. Fireworks have been going off for many a year. If you choose to get a dog, you know this.

TheRealGossipGirl · 21/10/2025 00:59

Maybe if you understood what’s actually happening in Gaza, you wouldn’t use it as a prop for your tantrum about fireworks. Not everything revolves around your inconvenience.

buffyreboot · 21/10/2025 01:13

I hate them. My cat couldn’t care less

one year I had one put through my window, so that was fun paying for repairs. It landed next to me and I just got out before it went off. They also threw one in the local coop, in a car with a baby in and in a nursing home
they are regularly set off randomly in the street any time around bonfire night and thrown at police and cars
I am not really seeing the benefits in them TBH when people go “ooh they’re pretty! It’s tradition!”
once you’ve had one thrown at you or in your house you tend to go off them

HauntedBungalow · 21/10/2025 01:24

Was it an french door open window or did they attach the firework to a sledgehammer and then throw that?
