If you could wake up tomorrow with a specific singer’s voice, whose would you choose and why?

Inspired by another thread, mine would be Karen Carpenter.

OP posts:

Sandy Denny or June Tabor

Trumpeuncretino · 21/10/2025 11:38

Amy Winehouse

J Hud! Her voice is so effortless, love it!

FilthyforFirth · 21/10/2025 11:46

Just scrolled back through can't believe no one else said Jennifer Hudson! Aretha is a close second

HeathenPlayingHouse · 21/10/2025 12:01

Selena Quintanilla, or maybe Lorna Luft. If I were a man, probably Marc Broussard or Foy Vance.

Maddy Prior
(You're all too young to have heard of her, I suspect!)

Haha ues she had a beautiful voice. Turned out her politics were less lovely, unfortunately

Did love her performances.with June Tabor, too

Judith would definitely be my pick.

'The Carnival is Over' probably shows off her voice better, or 'I am Australian', but I specially like the one I linked to :)

I've seen an interview with her bandmates where they said (a little bit irritated with her!) that she never sang a wrong note, and picked them up on all of theirs even if only a fraction out 😉

We had I'll Never Find Another You as the exit music at my mother's funeral, just in case anyone wasn't crying already.

Just to add to my previous list, and going in a totally different direction, I would also add Nina Simone. Anything she sang was great but this is a really good example:

(Although her playing live is better still)

There is an incredible warm, human presence in Nina's voice that even through my tinny phone speaker gives me a sense of a person right next to me here in the room. I can almost feel her body heat and sense her breath, and her warm, intense spirit. Extraordinary 😍😍

Oh my GOD 😭😭😭😭😭. I'm welling up myself now....

Giggorata · 21/10/2025 12:28

Lisa Gerrard for me, too.

If male, Freddie Mercury.

Fionasapples · 21/10/2025 12:34

Judith Durham of The Seekers.
If I woke up male, I'd like Matt Munro's voice.

Lilifer · 21/10/2025 13:21

Sinead o Connor

Eyesopenwideawake · 21/10/2025 13:22

Alison Moyet or Adele.

MardyBra · 21/10/2025 14:04

Ella Fitzgerald or Aretha Franklin

I listened to this clip that was posted and thought about having it at my funeral...then I started to cry 😢
Fantastic choice 🥰

EliosBackPack · 21/10/2025 19:15

Etta James for me.

OneFootAfterTheOther · 21/10/2025 19:17

Cynthia Erivo

TwinklyStork · 21/10/2025 19:18

Assssofspades · 20/10/2025 20:15

Mel C

I might pick her too. The way she sang I Don't Know How To Love Him in Jesus Christ Superstar was fantastic.

For a man - George Michael.

EliosBackPack · 21/10/2025 19:25

Should have said, Etta James try her singing “A Sunday kind of love.”

Cher. Or Jack Black , if I was male. He seems to be a great live performer. He nails it each time he sings.

Me and oldest DS went to see Tenacious D last year. It was one of the best concerts I’ve been too (and I’ve been to a few). They were brilliant.

Sandy Denny or June Tabor

June Tabor singing Night Comes In is one of my favourite songs.

Fabvegetablegrower · 21/10/2025 19:52

Alison Moyet
