If you could wake up tomorrow with a specific singer’s voice, whose would you choose and why?

Inspired by another thread, mine would be Karen Carpenter.

OP posts:

Willard White

Or if I was female, Victoria de Los Angeles

Emma Kirkby. Such a beautiful voice.

Oh yes! I agree with this.

Twattergy · 20/10/2025 20:26

Aretha. Or tbh any big gospel voice, I'd love to be able to unleash a huge soulful voice.

Or if I was heading in a more subtle direction. Lianne le Havas.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 20/10/2025 20:28

Well if I had to choose just one singer, it would have to be Cynthia Clarey.

LadeOde · 20/10/2025 20:29

Hayley Westenra or Naomi Raine. Beautiful voices.

ChubbyPuffling · 20/10/2025 20:31

Gabrielle, I love her voice.

Though growing up (showing how old I am) I spent so long trying to copy Judy Garland and Barbara Streisand , I still love their voices.

sanityisamyth · 20/10/2025 20:32

Mine. If someone swaps mine for Whitney or Mariah I’d never speak or sing again.

Another2Cats · 20/10/2025 20:32

Just to add to my previous list, and going in a totally different direction, I would also add Nina Simone. Anything she sang was great but this is a really good example:

(Although her playing live is better still)

Maria Callas - oh to sing Opera!

mamagogo1 · 20/10/2025 20:36

Lea salonga (musical theatre) or lesley garrett maybe

GucciBear · 20/10/2025 20:38

Maria Callas.

LittleArithmetics · 20/10/2025 20:42

Some good shouts here. I'll say Grace Slick.

DaffodilValley · 20/10/2025 20:43

Morten Harket. Perfect and unique.

mediummumma · 20/10/2025 20:43

Kelly Clarkson, because that woman can sing absolutely everything!

Alittlefrustrated · 20/10/2025 20:44

Dolly

Karen Carpenter is a good call. I love her voice. But I'd probably pick Judith Durham.

Judith would definitely be my pick.

'The Carnival is Over' probably shows off her voice better, or 'I am Australian', but I specially like the one I linked to :)

I've seen an interview with her bandmates where they said (a little bit irritated with her!) that she never sang a wrong note, and picked them up on all of theirs even if only a fraction out 😉

Joni Mitchell

Bloodylovecheese · 20/10/2025 20:57

Annie Lennox or Lauryn Hill for female and Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke or Dave Gahan for Male
