If you could wake up tomorrow with a specific singer’s voice, whose would you choose and why?

Inspired by another thread, mine would be Karen Carpenter.

Joni Mitchell

Carly Simon or Emmylou Harris
anyone who can't effortlessly sing along with a guitar and harmonise perfectly

Ariana Grande, her voice is pretty special

I was scrolling to see if anyone was going to say this!

Mistyglade · 20/10/2025 23:32

Mary Wells beautiful soaring soul. Everyone knows hers was the best voice in the Supremes but Diana Ross took lead naturally being Berry Gordy’s partner.

Pomegranatecarnage · 20/10/2025 23:32

Lisa Gerrard I think. I love her voice.

LightDrizzle · 20/10/2025 23:34

Annie Lennox or Whitney

professionalnomad · 20/10/2025 23:43

Mama Cass

Another vote for Lea Salonga. Her voice and diction is so pure, and I prefer her version of the Wicked songs over Idina or Cynthia.

SwedishEdith · 20/10/2025 23:54

I always loved Maggie Reilly's voice on Moonlight Shadow. Always seems effortless and pure.

I'd be happy with either Frida or Agnetha or Emmylou. In fact, that's reminded me - either of the First Aid Kit sisters. Maybe there's something fragile and vulnerable sounding in Scandinavians singing in English.

Kelly Clarkson. She sounds fabulous singing pretty much anything.

Some great suggestions here but the most stunning voice I’ve heard recently was the actress who played Joan Baez in A Complete Unknown. Sorry I can’t name her…will google.

Mónica Barbaro played JB and did a phenomenal job! My picks would be either Joan Baez or Julie Andrew’s, but I love loads of
the other choices that people have made here.

AnchorWHAT · 21/10/2025 07:09

Was going to say whitney but to be honest anyone who can sing well! I have a secret fantasy of getting up at a karaoke and just blowing people away by my amazing singing 😆 never gonna happen.

MaidOfSteel · 21/10/2025 07:10

Ann Wilson. Her voice is phenomenal!

HelenaWaiting · 21/10/2025 07:15

Fiona Apple. Along with her face and her attitude. I fucking love her!

Nat King Cole.

Does anyone remember All About Eve? Julianne Regan was pretty good.

YOU ARE AN OCEAN WAVE, MY LOVE
CRASHING AT THE BOW
I AM A GALLEY SLAVE, MY LOVE

Thank you for that earworm, @squashyhat. (She did have a lovely voice, though one of my main memories of them was when something went wrong on TOTP and the backing track played without the band hearing it…)

nam3c4ang3 · 21/10/2025 10:44

Whitney or Celine … maybe even Mariah. If guy - Axl Rose.

Auburngal · 21/10/2025 10:50

I once had a dream of me singing in both Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie doing a Fleetwood Mac tribute band.

I cannot be doing with screaming or high pitch voices. I love Minnie Riperton but the high pitch bit in Loving You is too much.

Annie Lennox
Alison Moyet
Morten Harket
