Please answer this question firstly with a number. What proportion of men - who had they been born into wealth and status - would have sex with a 17 year old attractive girl whom they’d never met before?

I don’t know the answer, but I’m upset to say that I’d put the number somewhere in the 30-40% range.

If it was guaranteed nobody would know and there would be no negative consequences my number goes up to 99 percent.

DiscoBob · 19/10/2025 10:49

I'd like to think the older they got, the less likely it would be. So maybe 90% of 20 year olds but only 10% of 60 year olds?

I'd question how truthful any survey respondent would be on this subject in any case.

Zippyzoppy · 18/10/2025 23:45

Sorry, yes I meant to put in the original post, a man over the age of 40.

Edited

Hmm. If the girl seemed keen, maybe half? I think it would go down if she was more clearly being pushed into it in some way.

But then, that is assuming no booze or drugs. Once those are in the picture I think it could go up a fair bit.

Under 30 I think a lot more would because they wouldn't feel they were so far apart in life.

Zebedee999 · 19/10/2025 10:50

20% Just based on parties I have been to where a young girl has been drunk and flirting, but many men have stepped up and steered her away from the men that have expressed interest.

The 90% numbers are ridiculous; at least in my experience. I guess it depends on the circles you move within.

PumpkinSparkleFairy · 19/10/2025 09:15

I don’t get it - are PPs saying that 90% of wealthy men they know in their 40s and up would try to have to sex with any 17yo girl they’re introduced to, within a couple of hours?

So they meet a friend’s 17yo DD and immediately try to shag her?? Christ.

It's such a weird question because it tries to exclude the girl's behaviour. I can see why, but it makes the question pretty meaningless. Are you asking whether they would pursue a 17 year old who showed no interest in them? I'd say the percentage might be low not for ethical reasons but because it's embarassing being turned down.

The question should be would they say yes if the girl asked? In which case I'd say it'd be very high indeed. And if the guy was over 40, even if legal it wouldn't be OK.

ERthree · 19/10/2025 11:10

Rich or poor makes no odds, i would say 95%. Men are will have sex with any female, they are not fussy. Having been with the military for 20 years i can tell you out of the 1000s of men i have known only a handful haven't cheated. My now Husband knows so many blokes and he says they all cheat and blokes think it is ok to cheat but wouldn't put up with their wifes/girlfriends cheating.

RainbowBagels · 19/10/2025 11:20

Worralorra · 18/10/2025 23:57

Sadly, I would have to say at least 70%.

If the late Queen couldn’t get it right, what hope is there for most?

Probably the vast majority of us, as most people dont not only abdicate all responsibility for parenting to staff (apparently she wanted to do better by Andrew and Edward but didnt even know how to bath them so sat and watched while a servant did it) but then doesnt authorise those staff to discipline the child and refuses herself to reprimand the child ( even when adult) when numerous concerns were raised about his behaviour. Refusing even to listen to the cincerns of her eldest son, who now has to deal with her shitshow. I think most people could manage better than that- especially with round the clock help. Most people also dont send their 8 year old to boarding school with round the clock protection, yet allegedly the child still ends up havingvsexual experiences at 11.All that goes more for Philip.

What is the context? Your thread makes no sense. You say you don't know the answer but you are upset by your own (presumably made up) answer of 30-40%. How on earth can we answer a completely hypothetical question with a percentage? We can all guess and then what? You have a load of meaningless numbers. Give some context and seek opinions.

FKAT · 19/10/2025 11:25

Having been a 17 year old, I'd say 70% but I'm now married to a man who definitely wouldn't so that skews my view of how many morally upstanding blokes there are out there. Possibly up to 90%?

Also it wasn't sex, it was rape.

Exactly in fact all the posters are just guessing numbers.

If they believed she was genuinely willing I think most of them would, as high as 90%.

If they knew or believed she was trafficked I do think far fewer. Maybe half or slightly less.

100% agreed.

Not many of the married ones. Of the single ones a low double figures percentage. Because not that many men are sexually attracted to girls who could be their children. Or if they were wouldn’t act on it.

I think this is incredibly wishful thinking. I would say a minimum of half and more like 70/80%

Nescafeneeded · 19/10/2025 13:53

The funny thing is despite the very high odds every person on this thread will think their DH would fall into the small minority that wouldn’t 😳

We have no idea of the odds though it's just posters plucking figures out of the air it proves absolutely nothing.

As opposed to Mumsnet's usual standards of journalistic integrity.

Lifejigsaw · 19/10/2025 16:12

Easy 90%. Reminds me of this Australian study that showed 1:15 men would have sex with an under 14 and 1:25 with a child under 10 if not caught and 10% admitted engaging in child sexual abuse already. https://www.independent.co.uk/world/child-sex-abuse-men-australia-b2450369.html

I don't have a DH and I detest my ex, but I think he might fall into the 10% that wouldn't purely because he has a thing for older women and has always dated older than himself. It's due to his tastes tho, not his morals.

Delphigirl · 19/10/2025 19:28

Looking st the number of men in s very small area that were eilling to rape an unconscious gisele pelicot, i woukd hsve to guess Millions. Millions.

Nffsa · 19/10/2025 19:29

If she have enthusiastic and genuine consent?

Gruffporcupine · 19/10/2025 19:30

Between 70 - 80% I reckon

AmberSpy · 19/10/2025 19:31

I will probably sound like a nasty cynic here but I think the number of men who would commit statutory rape if they were absolutely sure they'd get away with it and the opportunity presented itself is far, far higher than most of us are able to countenance.

My DH is a very decent guy who has never cheated (that I know of) and has an excellent track record of ‘doing the right thing’ across a number of scenarios. In fact I often tease him and say there must be SOMETHING - he’s a good husband, father, friend, employee, the kind of son who has never forgotten his parent’s birthdays or Mother’s Day etc

Yet I would never confidently say he would NEVER do this. I’ve been very jaded by enough men that frankly although I could say I’m 99.99999% sure, I could never be 100%

MeetMyCat · 19/10/2025 19:37

I suspect most do if they have some kind of 'celebrity' status. They can't go to the pub and meet people like normal people or go on online dating etc. I imagine sleeping with escorts/prostitutes (whatever you want to call them) is rife. It's seedy but perfectly legal.

Quite. And having been a 17yr old girl once, I can’t believe that any girl of that age who is flown in to socialise with these men, and being offered clothes, jewellery and glitzy locations, wouldn’t think there were “expectations”
