Please answer this question firstly with a number. What proportion of men - who had they been born into wealth and status - would have sex with a 17 year old attractive girl whom they’d never met before?

I don’t know the answer, but I’m upset to say that I’d put the number somewhere in the 30-40% range.

I’m sad to say I think any heterosexual man who thinks he can get away with it.

I’m nearly 60 and I’ve watched society and men in general behave appallingly towards women and girls. It’s to the extent that I no longer trust any of them which is an awful thing to say as I know and love some amazing men. I’m pretty certain those men wouldn’t do this but I’ll never be sure.

What's the point of this question OP?
Answers are all guesswork so how is it useful?

OSTMusTisNT · 19/10/2025 09:28

Plenty 17 year old girls in my friendship groups were fantasising about bonking rich middle aged men. (One was seeing a married man and another was sneaking round with a teacher which worked out okay in the end as they've been married 20+ years). Add a title like Duke and that would tip them over the edge.

Teacher excepted, nothing illegal about it in the UK but very morally wrong.

The assign a proportion thing is a very strange way to look at it

TheaBrandt1 · 19/10/2025 09:33

It’s a red herring question for me. Surely as a flipping prince with all the riches and position lavished on you you should at least make the effort not to be a sleazy alley cat? I mean it’s not hard is it - Dh and literally all his lovely friends have managed not to sleep with numerous teenaged prostitutes 🙄

Tanya285 · 19/10/2025 09:34

If they thought they could get away with it then I'd say close to 100% - and from research I've seen I'd say many would go younger than that.

TheKeatingFive · 19/10/2025 09:34

Is this some kind of gross attempt to make Prince Andrew's disgusting behaviour seem more acceptable?

Yes but PA thinks everyone is beneath him and is known to be very arrogant, as I said I think he probably thought she would be delighted to have sex with him.

I'm 67. You're absolutely right.

I sort of was too in the 90s. It was a different culture where access to affluence was very social and location based, and being in the right room at the right time was access to Everything.

i blagged my way into the places to be (the met bar, titanic, Atlantic omg 😭) with the help of being 18 and gorgeous and plied with champagne from rich Arabs. In the intoxication (literal and figurative) of the lifestyle I would’ve liked nothing more than to have been taken further into the glamour and status/ elitism.

would I have been able, in a dark room just me and him, to have sex with a rich old man? God I absolutely shudder at the thought.
It would’ve no doubt, I can say as a middle aged woman, been traumatising.
Would anyone have known that? Would I have event admitted it to myself? No way.

you simply can not take the words and actions of someone so young, who is still developing, at face value.
How they tell you they feel can bear no relation to how they actually feel inside any mature adult should realise that.

AbsentosaurusRex · 19/10/2025 09:39

If you add - if they knew no one else would know / find out - the answer is almost all of them.

You should also just say what %men. Wealth has nothing to do with it.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/10/2025 09:40

It would depend on the age of the man and I think particularly if he had daughters.

What, in the U.S.? Where was the research done? Surely, if cultural norms are too varied if you are asking this question about all men of the world?

itsallsohard · 19/10/2025 00:16

Do you know, I went looking and discovered that until 2024 it was legal to have sex with a 17 year old and even marry her without parental permission, in both NY and DC, obviously not to traffic or pimp her out, but still, technically the Windsor pickle committed no crime. Which is not to say Giuffre wasn't terribly a victim of, as far as I can see, practically every man she ever had in her life, and yes, our guy was/is an ass, and Epstein clearly a criminal. But, well... actually I am not sure what my point is except that clearly standards have risen, thank goodness. Oh, and that it is typical that Maxwell, the woman, is basically the one taking all the official punishment. It seems to be a continuing rule that ultimately a woman is always to blame ...

Absolutely. Very few people seem to realise that technically, no crime had been committed. Obviously morals are a different story.

Plugsocketrocket · 19/10/2025 09:43

Very high percentage maybe 90%. There is a huge problem with the messages men get from other men when they are being raised as boys. I think the vast majority of men carry a degree of misogyny and women too.

Trafficking is a crime.

Sharptonguedwoman · 19/10/2025 09:44

I don't think you need to have been born into wealth and status. The behaviour of pop stars in the past may not bear examination.
Percentage of men? 90%+

Horsedoglover59 · 19/10/2025 09:45

ChristmasHug · 18/10/2025 23:42

80%

Regardless of wealth and status I'd imagine a very high proportion, assuming she was/appeared willing. I'd hope older men might think a little but younger ones would assume she fancied them.

About 85% I would imagine.

Lindy2 · 19/10/2025 09:45

I'd say pretty much all single men who had an attractive woman making it obvious she wanted sex would be likely to go for it.

This would be especially so if there were alcohol/drugs involved and the young woman was dressed up looking older than 17. The legal age for sexual consent is 16.

Bambamhoohoo · 19/10/2025 09:45

Sharptonguedwoman · 19/10/2025 09:42

Little bit confused about these posts. The crime Andrew committed was trafficking. Age is unrelated to this.

even so, what difference does it make what age you can marry in NY and Dc? That has nothing to do with what happened to VG.

AprilinPortugal · 19/10/2025 09:46

I'd like to hear that answer from men themselves! I think probably most would. The age of consent here in the UK is 16 so they wouldn't technically be doing anything illegal (obviously not talking about trafficking). It's not paedophilia, as that is sexual attraction to prepubescent children. Rightly or wrongly, men are attracted to much younger women, it's biology. When I was 17 in 1980, I had men in their 30s to 50s trying to sleep with me! I was a very immature, naive 17 year old too. I'm so glad this behaviour is being called out more today.

APTPT · 19/10/2025 09:48

I'd think 10% might be gay.

10% might have morals, character or qualms.

15% might have E.D.

So, only 65%.

Zhu · 19/10/2025 09:48

Unfortunately I think you’re being unreasonable, but only because the number would be much higher. Even some men in couples/married of they thought it was without consequences.

Ratafia · 19/10/2025 09:48

RoseAndGeranium · 19/10/2025 00:10

Based on men I know well? Men in their 40s, unmarried, without kids, maybe 50-60%. With kids but no longer married maybe 20%. Married with kids 10-15%. Looking at this thread I think I must know unusually nice men though.

I would say roughly the same. I think actually this is more realistic than most on this thread.

Of course but that would assume that the bloke had the gumption to realise the girl had been trafficked. Or care.
But I looked it up; Ms Giuffre says the duke sexually assaulted her on three occasions when she was under the age of 18. (BBC website)
Was the crime sexual assault not trafficking?
