Viewer stole from my house?

Calcaata · 18/10/2025 20:29

I have a Diptique candle, 3 wick and cost £180. I’ve had two house viewings today, not done by myself but by the estate agent. I’ve come home and it’s missing.

Aibu to expect the estate agent to reimburse me?? I won’t be able to contact them now until Monday.

Well it clearly didn’t miss, as it wound you up enough to bitch back. Being bitter is clearly tough. Right I’m going waft off now. Bye

KTheGrey · 19/10/2025 11:48

Advice to contact police and tell estate agent you expect reimbursement or to be released from contract is the best.

Chiefangel · 19/10/2025 11:53

Sorry if it was mentioned earlier and I missed reading it but was the candle visible on your Rightmove photos? And someone has probably clocked it and arranged a viewing.
Please definitely do report it for a crime number at least and I would only do viewings for people who are already sstc from now on, to avoid time wasters anyway. Hope your candle is returned.

LeftMyCulottesOnTheUnderground · 19/10/2025 11:55

I was viewing a house once when I opened a kitchen cupboard at random and found a gun in it.

I love an expensive candle too OP.

I don’t burn mine - I melt them on an electric coffee mug warmer and that way they release the scent but I don’t lose much of the wax. I have had some for years and they are still going. Helps me to justify the cost 😃

I hope you get it sorted.

I do would though wonder why you seem so upset about people with money spending it? Why is OP a wannabe? When is a wannabe the real thing?

I am happy letting people live and let live. I was just surprised how aggravated you seem by someone you don’t even know.

I am happy, but you seem bitter.

It happened to a relative of mine. He did get the estate agents to pay but he was a barrister so they perhaps didn't want to argue.

What? People steal during house viewings?!

🤯

Well you’re not the only one with last worditus. I reconsidered my position and thought I’d try and engage in a conversation, like an adult.

Interesting that you just want to sling insults rather than engage. Why are you so bothered by the OP?

Anyway off to a wannabe show now so def going!

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2025 12:09

Doesn’t matter if it was a £2.99 candle from Aldi or £180 posh one

its still theft and @Calcaata has has something stolen

yes it’s a costly candle but maybe It lasts for months and gives a nice smell and her treat to herself

some people love sunshine holidays - a friend buys handbags for £500 - another buys posh hubby and will drink £100 bubbles

it’s all their pleasures

Exactly. Imagine thinking your posts being bumped is a ‘thing’😂

180 quid.

weird . It wouldn’t occur to me to nick something but I was going to, it wouldn’t be a candle. blimey. How would you? Stick it up your sleeve whilst estate agent wasn’t looking? Maybe the thief does a few houses a day and they’re actually filling up their own home with stuff? How odd! Well, get a new estate agent OP I guess .

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 THIS

Twelve pages in and still not the point of the thread. Doesn’t matter how much it cost. It’s a personal choice.

Wow, you really should have a look back at the vitriolic nonsense you’ve posted here before you accuse anyone else of it.

Her posts are exceptionally childish and immature. I have secondhand embarrassment reading them.

BadgernTheGarden · 19/10/2025 12:20

Last time we were selling a house the estate agent specifically said to remove anything valuable or easily stolen. I think they probably cover themselves with a disclaimer (in the small print) when you employ them and sign a contract.

I know what you mean - coloured up there a bit myself !!

Yes and I loved it, I’ve seen some Diptyque candles that are £300.

You know you can get the same scents, same size from small businesses that are a fraction of the cost? Their £58 log fire candle I got from an Etsy Seller for £12 plus postage. Ditto their Pine Tree and their Pomador?

All these candlemakers buy their scents from the same 2 wholesalers 😂

You're literally paying for some snazzy labelling. I'd be mortified if I paid £180 for a candle just because it's got a particular label. 😂

Edit: Just to say, the point is good luck getting anything back for something that has an actual retail value of £18 quid...not £180 😂

Let us know what the agent says - outrageous.

DrPrunesqualer · 19/10/2025 12:23

This is why I do all viewings and never allow anyone to roam the house without me.
I had a large family group once ( Theyd brought their parents ) so three kids and four adults.

Controlling the wandering was a nightmare and the parents kept trying to get me out of the house to locate the manholes ???!!!
Alarm bells started ringing so I agreed to allow only two in the house at a time

I asked the others to wait outside

Never leave anyone unattended in your house.
Of note EA don’t watch their every move
