Viewer stole from my house?

Calcaata · 18/10/2025 20:29

I have a Diptique candle, 3 wick and cost £180. I’ve had two house viewings today, not done by myself but by the estate agent. I’ve come home and it’s missing.

Aibu to expect the estate agent to reimburse me?? I won’t be able to contact them now until Monday.

This kind of nasty comment is an immature and unnecessary personal attack and deserves reporting.

DrPrunesqualer · 19/10/2025 12:26

I’d also advise to all sellers. Never leave small objects on shelves that can be easily popped into a pocket

I’m sorry, but this has to be said, and it’ll be worth the deletion. You are a pretentious pillock !!

Why can’t she light it? And how do you know she can’t afford it. You are really reaching. You can reuse a bag or a car etc but the more you do the more it devalues so same situation imo.

I wish I could day drink, but unfortunately I had to stop that because it didn’t sit well with the chemotherapy I’ve been having for the last five months. They are the only drugs I do these days, and the cancer that will eventually kill me is the only source of my mental health challenges. There now. Feel better ?

DancingNotDrowning · 19/10/2025 12:33

The person the OP aspires to be wouldn't have mentioned the price at all, let alone on mumsnet, and that person would find the loss of 180 quid a very minor inconvenience

this is a weird take.

the price is relevant because value is inherently relevant to how we perceive theft.

if the OP had said she’d had an item worth £150 stolen this thread would have been detailed by people asking what it was and how big/small/easy to lose/conceal it might be.

if you weren’t so chippy @asmallbluething then you’d appreciate that, but you’re too hung up on attempting to call OP out for her “wannabe ways”

With a massive class-based chip on her shoulder. Impressive she managed to type ;-)

That's quite mild compared to what I was thinking!

I can’t afford to burn it? Sorry do you have access to my bank accounts. It has been used,/burnt on multiple occasions.

But there we go with the snarky comments because someone took it personally that a stranger spent their disposal income on a candle. I honestly couldn’t live such a draining life where something like this would ever bother me.

I was viewing a house once when I opened a kitchen cupboard at random and found a gun in it.

Was this in the US?

Something akin to themselves by the sounds of it !!

This is what makes me think it was more likely to be the EA themselves. The Diptyque candles are quite big and bulky - especially the three wick ones, and they’re usually in glass or pottery containers, so heavy. Unless the viewers had a big shopping type bag with them it would have been impossible to hide - whereas the EA would stay behind after they’d gone, to lock up. This is how we caught our EA on CCTV, stealing peaches from the tree in our back garden before she left !!

Blimey !!!!

Did you report them.

What happened to them
?

sugarapplelane · 19/10/2025 12:55

Who gives a flying fuck how much a candle costs. If Op wants to spend her cash on candles that’s up to her.
Sone of the spitefullness and jealousy on this thread is horrible.
I gave heard that Diptyque candles are amazing though. I would love one.
Theft is theft and this needs to be reported to the Estate Agents and the police. The Estate Agents should have names of all the viewers (unless they were sneaky and gave false names).

Or the EA was the thief
( see above post )

Could be. Interesting!!
At the moment nobody knows so maybe Op needs to check any ring doorbells and then report to the Manager of the EA, not the person who did the viewings and let them know they are going to report this to the police.

Flinderskleepers · 19/10/2025 13:06

I can't believe how much this thread has derailed because of jealousy on what OP spends on her candle. Welcome to Mumsnet I guess!
