Bloody jellycat teabag

AIBU to be completely done with the Jellycat teabag madness? Honestly, who knew a small stuffed teabag could cause such chaos. The minute they come out, they’re gone – poof – straight into the hands of people who don’t even like them, just want to flog them on Vinted for triple the price.

I wouldn’t even care normally, but my daughter has been utterly brainwashed by this Jellycat cult and now apparently her collection will be incomplete without a pretend teabag. Meanwhile, I’m sat ringing around and scanning social media like a mug while Janice from Kent is selling 5 of them for 65 quid a pop.

And don’t even get me started on the Aldi wooden toys. Blink and you’ve missed them – unless, of course, you want to buy them off someone online who’s decided they’re now luxury limited editions.

Can we not just let kids have toys without turning it into a side hustle? It’s a cuddly teabag, not gold bullion.

I'm remembering the 90s beanie baby madness...
Oh, and tulip bulbs in the Netherlands c1600.
People are such idiots.

God sake. People are so miserable too. 🙄🙄

crappycrapcrap · 19/10/2025 10:34

There’s a resurgence of stock I believe.

i confess my 14DD and I stalked our tiny local stockists for four days after they advertised they would be getting some. We thought we were obsessed popping into the shop and checking, but the owner told us people were ringing on the hour to see if there was stock in and some people queued outside shops in the early hours!

My DD loves her Steepy (and her many other jellycats) but mostly because of the hype… she doesn’t even drink tea.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/10/2025 10:38

I thought jelly cats were soft and fluffy

this tea bag looks rough

JacknDiane · 19/10/2025 08:38

Its mostly 20+ year old buying the jellycats, not teenagers!!

How do you know?

Beware ebay.
I bought one, it was a fake.
Did get my money back, though.

Ditto

Qwerty21 · 19/10/2025 10:57

Which is more of a concern re safety imo

Gettingbysomehow · 19/10/2025 11:17

I had a look on the Internet yesterday and there are loads on there for fairly reasonable prices.
In other news a suitcase in my loft is full of beanie babies that I thought would be worth something one day. They are not. Maybe in another 100 years time 😮

If you think about it, the search or quest to find something has been written about in most fairy tales! The hero or heroine has to conquer all sorts of monsters and peril before they find their particular holy grail. I think it’s hard wired into our brains to need this sort of adventure… it just plays out in varying different ways. Some people like roller coasters for an adrenaline rush and others enjoy searching for something that seems quite elusive. Toys are big business, especially now that many children prefer tablets and virtual games. There’s a lot of competition and Jellycat has been around for a while now because the toys encourage children to be playful, imaginative and creative as well as comforting and adorable to look at. Each of them has a back story and many of the owners like making IG feeds of their Jellycats interacting with the real world, just for a bit of whimsy and fun.

My own DD helped to make Mr. Moshi a multi millionaire or billionaire. I wanted a Cabbage Patch kid but was refused one.

JacknDiane · 19/10/2025 11:19

I've just seen one, but its £39

JacknDiane · 19/10/2025 11:19

Dontsayyouloveme · 19/10/2025 10:41

How do you know?

I work in a place they are sold

PrivateMusic · 19/10/2025 11:23

Dontsayyouloveme · 19/10/2025 10:41

How do you know?

There are huge Facebook groups dedicated to it.

JacknDiane · 19/10/2025 11:27

I seen one in a local independent gift store, hope you get lucky op, there was only one there but it was 39 not 25

Audubon · 19/10/2025 11:31

@Teasforfears I was at Ragdale Hall Health spa this week and they had a lots of these Jelly Cat teabags in the gift shop where they see a few of the Jelly cats, most definitely genuine and not marked up, give reception a call and ask to be put through to the gift shop and see if they’ll post one out to you?

mrswhiplington · 19/10/2025 11:40

@Teasforfears Bridgewater Gardens near Manchester has a gift shop that sells Jellycats. You could try ringing them first to see if they have the one you want. It's not generally overrun with Jellycat fans.

Hoppinggreen · 19/10/2025 11:45

Well my 20 year old DD wants one for her Uni House drinks station so I will do my best to get one for her. Its her 21st soon and all she has asked for
Anyone who wants to judge that can F off frankly

AngeloMysterioso · 19/10/2025 11:49

I have the teabag but I’m desperately in search of the blue teapot and teacup to complete the set!

Sub2Mumma · 18/10/2025 23:17

I genuinely hope your DD gets a steepy - I’ve been hunting for one for a friend who is a tea jenny but they are very elusive! My very small JC collection that sit on my headboard they all have a significant meaning which would be too outing to share and my DD has 3 JC which all have significant meanings too

Fun guess, left to right: fell in love ❤️, had sex 🍆, had a baby 👶.
Appreciate that's probably not an aubergine 😅.

MidnightMeltdown · 19/10/2025 11:53

Hmmm… it’s not the best Jellycat I’ve seen. If I didn’t know it was a teabag I’m not sure that I’d guess what it was supposed to be.

They’re kinda cute, but when I look at these things I think, ‘dust collectors’. I wonder what people do with them all.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 19/10/2025 12:02

I have no interest in Jellycats. I really don’t understand the hype. And yet, I kinda want Steepy myself.

I don’t understand what’s happening to me.

CrocodileJen · 19/10/2025 12:14

Haha team Steepy here too although my kids are too young to be in on the Jelkycat craze yet so I’ve never heard of him before today. Love this thread, simultaneously feeling your pain @Teasforfearswhile still hoping your daughter gets her Steepy!

whatohwhattodo · 19/10/2025 04:00

We have a number of the amuseables, had for quite sometime before they got hyped up to the extent they are now. I also have an amazingly soft large octopus - I bought 2 years ago as I love the feel
if it.

that said I have kind of gone off them as a company recently. The prices have gone up significantly and are now quite ridiculous for a small one.

they also withdrew the licence to stock them from quite a few of the smaller shops I believe which upset a lot of people.

They withdrew the license for many small independent shops to further restrict availability - also if the shops didn’t pay to be some kind of ‘super seller.’

Basically an awful company ethically

Jellycat PR is that you?

AngeloMysterioso · 19/10/2025 13:24

@Teasforfears hiya OP, I went into the shop in town where I got my Steepy and they had one left 😊 so I grabbed it for you, if you PM me I can get it in the post tomorrow

NaranjaDreams · 19/10/2025 13:51

Teasforfears · 18/10/2025 19:54

I bet they will be like Beenie babies, but then again look at Pokémon cards, some of them still go for daft money.

Some of the rarer Jellycats go for £400 - £500 now.

bridgetreilly · 19/10/2025 13:53

YABU for enabling her.
