Bloody jellycat teabag

AIBU to be completely done with the Jellycat teabag madness? Honestly, who knew a small stuffed teabag could cause such chaos. The minute they come out, they’re gone – poof – straight into the hands of people who don’t even like them, just want to flog them on Vinted for triple the price.

I wouldn’t even care normally, but my daughter has been utterly brainwashed by this Jellycat cult and now apparently her collection will be incomplete without a pretend teabag. Meanwhile, I’m sat ringing around and scanning social media like a mug while Janice from Kent is selling 5 of them for 65 quid a pop.

And don’t even get me started on the Aldi wooden toys. Blink and you’ve missed them – unless, of course, you want to buy them off someone online who’s decided they’re now luxury limited editions.

Can we not just let kids have toys without turning it into a side hustle? It’s a cuddly teabag, not gold bullion.

How old is your daughter? I'd say, let her do the legwork in sourcing it, and let her save up for it if it costs a fortune. I'm with you, sounds a lot of fuss and money for a cuddly tea-bag.

Onlyinthrees · 18/10/2025 18:29

Crap. Now I want the tea bag.

ShenandoahRiver · 18/10/2025 18:30

I have Steepy 😍

Teasforfears · 18/10/2025 18:31

She’s 14, and the teabags retail for about £25.

To be fair to her, she does the leg work and three times now she has seen them in stock locally, hotfooted it there and missed it by minutes.

I tend to work in different parts of the country a fair bit, but I always have half an eye on garden centres and gift shops but always the same story- out of stock/expecting a delivery in a few weeks etc.

Unlucky! Any friendly shop staff who could let you know as soon as local stock arrives?

Santasbigredbobblehat · 18/10/2025 18:34

I imagine if she waits a few weeks/months they will be easily available.

CookieCrumbleCrumbs · 18/10/2025 18:34

There's loads on ebay, ranging from £8 to £25, maybe have a look there?

WaneyEdge · 18/10/2025 18:35

I feel you! Am praying Clyde (hipster version) comes back in stock at Selfridges before Christmas 😩

They are all fakes, which I would be fully on board with, but she would know. And then “it’s not the same”

Try Vinted. I got my DC’s campfire Jellycat there, new with tags.

They had lots in the Southbank centre shop today! I picked one up and had to read the label to work out what it was meant to be 😂

bigmix · 18/10/2025 18:37

Our local shop had about 5 in store today!! It’s not open tomorrow but I could check on Monday?

FlexiSadie · 18/10/2025 18:37

Am I missing something? I hadn't heard of it so just googled it to have a look and there are loads on eBay.

Fair enough, I would with my kid, it would be like swapping out a dead goldfish for a new live one..."of COURSE it's the same goldfish...!" 😂

FlexiSadie · 18/10/2025 18:38

Sorry, I see, someone has already mentioned eBay

That would be amazing thanks, but please don’t go out of your way.

I know it’s a lesson in patience for for her but she’s such a good kid and never really asks for anything, and I would get massive brownie points 😅

Sorry, but this is completely on you. Ignore the madness and teach your daughter to do the same. She's 14, not 4, so it's not an age-inappropriate lesson to start to learn about not falling for social media consumer hype and spending money wisely.

If she really must have it, you don't need to participate in the insanity.

Just don't engage.

JamesWebbSpaceTelescope · 18/10/2025 18:42

I was in Lidl today and they had lots of wooden toys in stock, don’t know if there is much difference to the Aldi one. All looked very nice.

They're fakes. The genuine Steepy teabag sells for £25 and is in high demand as it's a UK exclusive.

OP, I'm sorry your DD is finding it difficult to buy one. Unfortunately Jellycat have recently cut ties with a lot of independent stockist, in favour of bigger companies like Selfridges, and because of this it seems to be a lot more difficult to find them at retail price.

DuckWithOneWing · 18/10/2025 18:45

Rosesfornoses · 18/10/2025 18:39

It has plastic kimble tags so it's fake

Steepy is a prick 😆

We need the laugh emoji back 😂

I do like looking at all the Jellycat things in Fenwick's, then I look at the price, put them back and swiftly move on in case one of the DDs gets attached to something!

Lol, why didn’t I think of this.

“Im sorry you have bought into the hype that a global conglomerate has whipped up but it’s time to grow up and not want things because a lady on mumsnet blamed me for enabling your interests”

😆
