Bloody jellycat teabag

AIBU to be completely done with the Jellycat teabag madness? Honestly, who knew a small stuffed teabag could cause such chaos. The minute they come out, they’re gone – poof – straight into the hands of people who don’t even like them, just want to flog them on Vinted for triple the price.

I wouldn’t even care normally, but my daughter has been utterly brainwashed by this Jellycat cult and now apparently her collection will be incomplete without a pretend teabag. Meanwhile, I’m sat ringing around and scanning social media like a mug while Janice from Kent is selling 5 of them for 65 quid a pop.

And don’t even get me started on the Aldi wooden toys. Blink and you’ve missed them – unless, of course, you want to buy them off someone online who’s decided they’re now luxury limited editions.

Can we not just let kids have toys without turning it into a side hustle? It’s a cuddly teabag, not gold bullion.

Lol, why didn’t I think of this.

“Im sorry you have bought into the hype that a global conglomerate has whipped up but it’s time to grow up and not want things because a lady on mumsnet blamed me for enabling your interests”

😆

You can laugh all you want, but you're the one "sat ringing around and scanning social media like a mug". Surely you must know this isn't entirely normal and healthy.

I'm sure it's a lovely teabag, but it's not worth this level of stress on either your or your daughter's part.

Whinge · 18/10/2025 18:44

They're fakes. The genuine Steepy teabag sells for £25 and is in high demand as it's a UK exclusive.

OP, I'm sorry your DD is finding it difficult to buy one. Unfortunately Jellycat have recently cut ties with a lot of independent stockist, in favour of bigger companies like Selfridges, and because of this it seems to be a lot more difficult to find them at retail price.

"Actually, this Tea Bag one was released specifically to independent stores, not large high street chains, I guess maybe to make repairs for past injustices and that’s limited the number of potential sellers. Also, in a bid to prevent those annoying resellers, a lot of the stores are only selling in person and not online which of course is adding to their scarcity.

@Teasforfears Jelly at haven’t confirmed a future drop so if you get any offers of help to source one then I’d take it. Fingers xd for you!

Crap. Now I want the tea bag.

😅😭 I low key want one too now haha I have the dinky espresso one keeping watch over the tea and coffee station so a little partner in crime would have looked so cute haha

Steepy is a prick 😆

🤣🤣

My daughter likes these toys and we have collected three over the last ten years. She likes looking at the pictures of them online and we were amazed to see pictures on eBay where the photo of the product is still in the shop… we wondered if they were they were being put up for sale before being shoplifted. There’s a few articles on bbc news about the theft that has been a problem in small independent shops. One shop owner had footage of a woman brazenly packing her baby’s pushchair with his stock but the police wouldn’t/couldn’t do anything.

WeirdyBeardyMarrowBabyLady · 18/10/2025 19:15

I love Jellycats. Not helpful I realise but I also buy into the hype

You could write it in her Christmas card and maybe put a little charity donation in there 😆

I think Mr. White just likes asking women on the Internet what they’re on about 😂

Whinge · 18/10/2025 19:22

mrwwhite · 18/10/2025 19:17

What are you on about?

It's fake. Plenty of shitty sellers use genuine photos of the actual product, but considering the actual item costs £25, any sellers offering to sell it for less than half the price are obviously selling a fake.

somenerves · 18/10/2025 19:29

Gloucester Services had some yesterday if that’s helpful - quite a few!

Allswellthatendswelll · 18/10/2025 19:39

Is this one on vinted a fake? Can't work out why it's 20 quid not 50 (not sure why I'm now invested LOL!)

I have never wanted a jellycat before, but now I want a teabag jellycat! I wonder if they hold their value in the future or will end up like beanie babies?

I bet they will be like Beenie babies, but then again look at Pokémon cards, some of them still go for daft money.

Where abouts are you based ??

Retrogamer · 18/10/2025 19:58

From the title I thought this was some kind of weird Halloween edition haha. Have you tried emailing stockists to see if they will be getting more in? Or do they only release a limited number?

She’s 14, some people might say she should leave the soft toys for the little ones.

Or we could just be pleased a 14 year old still likes a cuddly toy and not push our children to grow up too fast. More than happy to get my 14 year old cuddly toys, there’s much worse things she could want.

ImSoJulia · 18/10/2025 20:50

That Vinted one is a fake.

16yo DD has a genuine Steepy. Got it from an independent shop on GCSE results day. A relative made a literal dash to the shop to get one of them before they sold out and got the last one. I love making sure he is sitting nicely on her bookshelf with his legs dangling.
