How many duvet covers?

How many duvet covers do you have for the bed you sleep in?

I have about 10 AIBU?

I had no idea some people bought bed linen like I buy jumpers, and switch it around all the time. The things you learn on MN.
We just buy new when the current set’s getting old and tatty (or in the case of the last one, had shrunk, making the duvet too small for DH’s feet). Pick nice design in comfortable cotton that goes reasonably well with the curtains, buy two sets and that’s job done for as long as it lasts. I hope the ones we’ve just bought last a long time as I really like them.

Blondeshavemorefun · 18/10/2025 08:21

I only buy pure cotton but I wouldn't pay more than £30 for a double set. My last set was from Tesco, cost £20 and is absolutely gorgeous. The set I had to throw away when it got too worn was one I bought from a supermarket nearly 20 years ago.

20 quid for pure cotton for a king size?

Thats very good

I think Ive had other stuff from Aldi over the years and that is dirt cheap too

Also I think I might have had Ikea but its not quite the right shape or size for UK duvets and I got the hump with it not quite going into the corners.

I saw one the other day in Dunelm, that was just over 100, its lovely. I keep thinking about it

Adooree · 18/10/2025 08:55

Unless I went to look , not sure , like clothes you have your favourites , and others that don't much get used . Between 6 - 10 but more likely 7/8 ish .

LillyPJ · 18/10/2025 09:00

@soupyspoon It was a double set and it was reduced, but it was exactly what I've been looking for for months. I knew I'd spot a bargain event! By the way, I think Ikea have changed their sizes now. I know they used to have weird bedding sizes but now conform to UK sizes here.

mummymayhem18 · 18/10/2025 09:03

I love bedding as well. I have about 6/7 sets 😀

Bananalanacake · 18/10/2025 09:05

I have over 20 single duvet covers, but then I live in Germany where double duvets are rare. I sleep with a single duvet and DH prefers a large blanket. These 20 are used regularly also for my 2 DDS and our guest room. I don't have seasonal ones. I like a variety, I'd get very bored with a cover less duvet.

Two! Super king in cotton is so expensive, I faint at the thought of multiple sets!

I don’t find them mega expensive, I can usually pick one up for £30-45

this is my most recent, I also shop the la redoute sale and TK maxx plus Asda

One. I wash it, dry it and put it back on. This used to cause genuine distress and worry to my grandma (RIP) who thought that wearing clothes / sleeping in sheets that hadn't been "aired" was potentially fatal. She had something called an "airing cupboard" - as a child I used to wonder how putting anything in a cupboard would "air" it, and I still do (anyone?). I do not have an airing cupboard and the deadly sheets haven't got me yet.

Airing cupboards usually had the hot water tank or immersion heater at the bottom so bedding etc placed on the slotted shelves above would get thoroughly warmed and dry.

An airing cupboard saved my old Nokia when I dropped it in a milkshake Grin
dried it out nicely. I do miss having one, it was great for warm pjs

aintnospringchicken · 19/10/2025 14:12

2 every day duvet covers, one on the bed and one in the wash.
I also have 1 Christmas duvet set.

Oh, was that the idea? It did have the hot water tank in it. But how does anything get dried effectively when it's all folded up? Wouldn't it have "aired" better on an actual airer, unfolded? The whole house was warm - she had central heating. And a tumble dryer (so the stuff was already warm and dry prior to going in the cupboard). Maybe it was just a habit going back to before she had either...

Nannyfannybanny · 19/10/2025 15:24

2 for each of the single spare beds and ours, got Williams Morris curtains last year, duvet covers co-ordinate with them.

Nannyfannybanny · 19/10/2025 15:27

Yes, nice big airing cupboard, tank and emersion heater for the solar panels. No sun or wind for a week now, I can hang small items of clothing, tea cloths over the bottom 2 shelves.

You'd dry stuff, outdoors or on a clothes horse or airer, and iron it before you folded it and put it away in the airing cupboard. Many houses were colder and damper then (single glazing, no central heating etc) than they are now so the linen would stay drier in the airing cupboard then it would elsewhere.

Marmaladelover · 19/10/2025 16:14

2 I rotate on our bed , one of which is new so the older one is in the “ Hot Press “ ( what are these “airing cupboards”? ) along with :
the festive duvet
and 2 other duvets for the spare bed

But there are also
At least 4 more unwanted presents / older duvets from years ago which are poly cotton and should be thrown out

plus god knows how many single duvets, none of which we need anymore either.

I need a clear out !

Foronenightonlytonight · 17/10/2025 18:51

Two. Where the chuff would you keep more??(unless your kunen cupboard is ginormous!?)

Someone who sees another one they like and there's no need to throw away the old ones?

I go to the laundrette once a month so I need to use more then two before washing sometimes.

I think I have at least 4.

I find it odd to have just one or two exactly the same. It's nice to have different ones.

If you only have one cover and have to wash and dry in one day then you are making the worst job - bed making - a task you do in 2 halves. Stripping and making up being the 2 halves. Not to mention laundering and ironing, if you bother to.

Do some people only have one set of pillow cases and one fitted sheet?

Tagliateriroa · 19/10/2025 19:53

2 for each bed. One on, one off

LilyCanna · 19/10/2025 20:20

@Denim4ever nope, as I said, two sets, we don’t even have a tumble dryer! But I don’t feel the need to have a variety of duvet covers any more than I keep spare bedroom curtains in different colours to alternate. If you have lots of storage space and it makes you happy then why not? Just didn’t know it was a thing people did.

Mumofsoontobe3 · 19/10/2025 20:24

I read this and thought you ment how many do you sleep with. I just imagined this bed with all these winter duvets piled up and my initial thought was 'oh god, they must really feel the cold!' Not realising you ment the bedding. I have 3. No festive or Halloween ones unfortunately as DH doesn't like them.

They are all in a pop up Ottoman in spare double room with sheets and pillow cases.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/10/2025 21:43

We have 2 for each bed in the house.
