Fans banned from match

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

Of course it is. Exactly right. They don’t think Israel should participate or be welcome anywhere. That usually sits along side that Israel shouldn’t exist at all. Pure anti semitism dressed up as ‘concern for safety ‘ when clearly the police have dealt with far more challenging situations on a weekly basis.

I go back to the analogy that do we ban all Muslim men from every and any single area they have killed or maimed people ie concerts, planes, restaurants, airports etc?

No, because it would be wrong to clump a religious group altogether and punish them collectively. The same applies here. One or two disruptors should not mean not no Israeli supporter can come and support their team.

But then we know it isn’t about the Israelis and their behaviour, it is about the kind of ‘welcome’ they are going to receive in the local area, because its hugely pro Palestine area, and they are already setting up witch hunts on social media.

Exactly.

Whenever someone on one of these threads says ‘people of Birmingham’ when being critical of the police decision, they’re conflating it with Muslims but it’s racist so they just hide behind ‘people of Birmingham’.

Edited

Ohhh - thanks for explaining! I think the Prosecco Stormfront element of MN have struck again.

You analogy would work had they banned Jews. They have not.

They banned fans of ONE Israeli football club.

A better comparison would be had they banned fans from Galatasaray.

Israeli and Jew are not synonyms.

They've also been banned in Tel aviv

TheBobbysAreSurly · 20/10/2025 15:24

The police in Israel have just shut down a match between MTA and another Tel Aviv club due to extreme violence ...

Clavinova · 20/10/2025 16:10

Lucyccfc68
you only need to see the videos from the Tel Aviv Derby where you have got fans in football shirts causing trouble

To be fair, the videos published by the British media mostly show Hapoel fans clashing with police.

Custardcream84
funny that a couple of years ago a Polish team were banned from playing at Villa

The match against Legia Warsaw went ahead. Legia fans were given a restricted ticket allocation of 1,000 tickets - those fans were only denied entry on the day of the match, following violent clashes with West Midlands Police outside the Villa Park stadium.

5MinuteArgument · 20/10/2025 16:24

I think the decision to ban the Isreali fans will stand. Starmer might be making concerned noises but it's all for show. Jews are outnumbered by Muslims in the UK by a factor more than 1:10. It's a numbers game, it's all about votes and influence.

Wow.
Are you trying to get people to vote Reform? Maybe part of their PR machine?

Boomer55 · 20/10/2025 16:31

I believe there was a lot of supporter violence at the game they last played in?

Not at all. I'd just like people to be treated fairly.

pointythings · 20/10/2025 16:43

I can't believe the mental contortions of the people on this thread defending the Maccabi fans. They are thugs. They are violent. They are racist. They are every bit as bad as the fans of the likes of Galataseray, Millwall, Leeds, Lazio and the like. It is completely irrelevant where they are from - they should not be welcome anywhere. Their club could rein them in - and doesn't. The ban needs to stand.

We clearly do not offer safety, equality, influence and authority or reverence in this country by ‘a numbers game’ only in this country ……

It’s not irrelevant at all, it’s entirely relevant given the race hate aimed at them…. We do not want to compound the issue with bans. Thanks.

Okaaaay... So they get away with behaviour any other fans would in fact be banned for? Just because they're Jewish? Make it make sense.

Good, but coldy but otherwise really well thanks.

Ohhhh, do you mean I should feel embarrassed for my OP?

I don’t feel embarrassed as I worked on what was being reported at the time, that it was about keeping Maccabi fans safe. Now it’s evident to be about football team’s behaviour, I can see why they want to ban the clubs fans. So no issue now.

Thanks for checking in 😘🤣

I don't think there will ever be a situation where some posters will accept Israelis were in the wrong.

Israelis are humans like every other group on earth , some are fab and some are just assholes and some are a mixture of both.

Safe?
My dear, they've proven to be hooligans.
That kind of behaviour has no culture, so I wanted you to accept that if someone acts like a hooligan, they will be treated as such.
Background really shouldn't come into it.
And definitely you should be embarrassed and ashamed that you actually thought that people cared about their background!
Rather shocking my dear

Oh my goodness, you really don’t understand this do you.

The issue isn’t a few thuggish bloody hooligans. We have a country full of them - England is renowned for football violence sadly, so we are exceptionally well geared up for a handful of Israeli thugs - the issue here is the harm
that could home to THEM in a well known area of hostility, where witch hunts have already been organised to start violence, perhaps worse.

Now do you understand? The police can handle the fans, yes. Can we handle thousands and thousands of Jewish hating baying mobs intent on taking out their race hate on the Israeli fans from all over Birmingham? And I have that these criminals intend to travell in too. Well that’s not so clear.

So are you suggesting we ‘ban’ the fans for their own safety?!

And if so, what kind of implied lawlessness can we expect from anyone with a racial hate axe to grind against another minority?

We must never give in to this kind of organised crime, or the country we know and love will be well on the road to shariah law, and areas and demographics imposing their idea of justice and policing.

I mean, after what they did in Tel aviv?
I think the fears are rather justified, it ain't a few hooligans is it, it's clearly a big problem. They need to learn how to behave don't you think?

Oh come on
Don't even start.
Even the police in Tel aviv have had enough of these fans
So why should police in the UK have to put up with them?

Erm can you really talk after Tel Aviv
Do the Israeli police also 'hate' their own?

Nestingbirds · 20/10/2025 20:29

A few fans can be easily monitored and handled ….if we can’t manage a few hooligans in very small numbers comparatively - it’s not tens of thousands we are pretty fucked. Stop gas lighting. This isn’t about the Israeli fans.
