Fans banned from match

WTAF?!

https://news.sky.com/story/maccabi-tel-aviv-fans-will-not-be-allowed-to-attend-aston-villa-match-amid-safety-concerns-13451240

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans banned due to safety concerns AGAINST them?

Since when is it ok to victim blame and penalise people who have done nothing wrong? Surely the right course of action would be either to ban ALL fans of both sides or better police the event?

So are Jews not welcome at sports games now? Because some people are racist bullies?

I genuinely can’t believe this has been allowed. Where does it end? Can Jews no longer safely access society? What if the risk is high elsewhere, will they be banned then?

What do you think? AIBU to think this is discriminatory and a slippery slope?

Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be allowed to attend Aston Villa match amid safety concerns

Police say the decision is based partly on what happened in Amsterdam last year, when Israeli fans attending a match against Ajax were targets of antisemitic attacks.

So no reliable source then.

other than actually seeing it? Okay.

EasternStandard · 17/10/2025 07:57

Of course. It wasn’t what they wanted to hear.

I do actually have a very low opinion of them because any other set of fans would’ve been banned after the violent demonstrations on the first day.

Stealth18 · 17/10/2025 07:59

CrossChecking · 17/10/2025 07:56

Wow, imagine being so racist that you can't stop yourself from racially abusing your own players. I can see why people are so desperate for them to come visit England.

As someone who has watched loads of games in Eastern Europe I can assure you that this type of thing is prevalent at dozens and dozens of clubs and quite a few national sides. None of them have been banned from travelling to away games.

SunnySideDeepDown · 17/10/2025 07:59

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 07:57

What is antisemitic about violent football fans being banned from a game of football?

I was quite explanatory in my original post and subsequent ones.

That’s simply not true.

I’m asking you to explain why you think violent football fans should be allowed at football games, making life a misery for the other fans and the surrounding community.

or is it only this group of fans? Because you think that it’s allowable for some fans to be violent and not others?

presumably you’re just as angry about the blanket ban on away fans at old firm matches, which is famously a rivalry based on religious beliefs.

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 08:01

Stealth18 · 17/10/2025 08:00

That’s simply not true.

yes, it is. You can deny it all you like but the MTA fans turned up to Amsterdam and were violent and racist.

spoonbillstretford · 17/10/2025 08:02

Stealth18 · 17/10/2025 03:23

As you of course know that has nothing to do with it whatsoever. The pressure from the local MP and community is all about who MTA are not what their fans might do.

If that wasn’t the case then surely there would have been other clubs visiting Villa Park who the residents would have objected to on he basis that their fan base was too volatile. Of course that has never happened.

There is a permanent undercurrent of the potential for violence from Islamic extremists if we don't do what they want.

We cannot live like this in our civilised country that is the UK.

It absolutely would happen in any country at any time with sets of fans who have caused serious violence or rioting. And individuals are often banned as it's easier to find individual offenders these days.

Galatasaray fans have certainly been banned en masse before.

In this case there is a clear public order concern around the fans of Maccabi Tel Aviv. Both about a trouble causing element in the fan base and that those who are not there to cause trouble may be a target for local thugs.

We had enough trouble with violence in and around football matches in the 1980s and 1990s in the UK which just doesn't happen in the way now and hasn't for many years. Let's not go back to those dark days. This is a sensible public order decision.

other than actually seeing it? Okay.

One anonymous poster saying they saw it. How much can one person see with one pair of eyes?!

Unless you’re superwoman and can see the whole event, in fine detail, then it’s irrelevant what one spectator of one scene thinks they saw.

You won’t have seen the build up, the areas you weren’t standing in. You won’t have heard what was out of earshot or seen the things out of visual line of sight.

You cannot summarise a whole event based on what one person saw. (Or says they saw as this is an anonymous site and people lie)

Judaism and Israel, or more specifically, Jerusalem, are inextricably linked. A bit like Islam and mecca. I'm sure you'd never dream of telling a Muslim that mecca is nothing to do with Islam?

Mecca is a place in Saudi important to Muslims. Muslims arent responsible for the actions of the Saudi Government though. Some may vocally support it and defend its atrocities, but that speaks more of their character than their religion. Even if they use their religion as justification for supporting the atrocities committed by the Saudi Government.

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 07:53

But the vast majority of the Villa fans are peaceful and a sound lot. Their matches go on every weekend without trouble.

I agree, but if this event brings together people who are anti semitic, anti Islamic, violent etc, what a great time to arrest them all and convict them.
I doubt violent, racist men are lovely in every other area of their lives, let them show their true colours and then come down on them like a ton of bricks.

Craftysue · 17/10/2025 08:04

I've been a season ticket holder for many years and I decided weeks ago I wasn't going to attend. Quite a few of the fans I sit near have already said the same. I still think there's going to be trouble and the best solution is to play behind closed doors with the match televised. Sad for the villa fans but I don't want to see the scenes from Amsterdam in Witton .
Can I just say that Aston Villa has to abide by the SAG and police advice and the decision to not allow away fans is not theirs to make.
So much bloody hatred everywhere 😞

NoOneToTextWhenThePlaneLands · 17/10/2025 07:56

I actually saw the events unfolding in real time, because I follow football - I’ve not just reacted to a headline now. I watched MTA fans smashing the place up, and then lo and behold a couple of days later the narrative has changed entirely.

You’re avoiding answering the question.

Which was: What's your source of information that "Israel exerted extreme pressure" on the Amsterdam police to say the Maccabi fans were targeted, and on the Mayor of Amsterdam to describe it as a "pogrom" against Jews?

Please give links to your information source.

Are people desperate to have those racists come visit their cities too? I thought in the UK they were desperately trying to stamp out racism directed at players not import more of it in. Seems I was wrong and a lot of you really don't mind a few monkey noises and death chants, more thought is being given to the racists than the people who live in Birmingham and would have been subjected to these racists on tour. British people should just suck it up and listen to death chants so Israelis can have a little holiday.

EsmaCannonball · 17/10/2025 08:07

It's not antisemitic to say that some Israeli football fans are racist. It is antisemitic to treat Israel as if having racist football fans is unique to them. Anyway, we all know this isn't why Israeli fans are being banned. They are being banned for the same sinister and disgraceful reason that 'visibly Jewish' people are harassed away from Gaza marches by the police. The authorities are terrified of Islamism and are even more terrified of admitting they are terrified of Islamism. What a state we are in.

Oh "Let them riot" great idea. Are you going to be paying for the clean up? I take it it's not your homes and businesses or council tax that will have to pay for it nor your friends, family or local community who will be affected.

What is worrying here is that people seem so keen to blindly support Israel, they can't recognise violence and racism from football fans. It was similar to when a gang rapes of women in Cyprus occurred by Israeli Tourists. It was said to be antisemitism that anyone accused them and then antisemitism when people were disgusted by their acquittals

This is a straight up lie.

nobody has tried to pretend Israel are the only country with racist football fans. In fact, many of us have pointed out that stadium bans due to racism are very common.

but for some reason a subset of people on here seem determined to insist that Israeli fans have the right to be racist and violent and we should all put up with it, or we are antisemitic.

Why would I hide the fact that I despise racism and think that racist chants and monkey noises should have no place in 2025? I would have thought that the people desperate for a load of racists to come to Britain on their jollies would hide it more but it seems not.

Source of that info please?

There were videos all over social media at the time. They are a vile bunch of fans.

However, by their standards, there are a lot of fans from other teams who should also be banned due to their behaviour. Some of the fans from teams from Turkey and Italy are just as bad.

I’ve been to games in Europe where the levels of racism and violence dwarfed what happened in Amsterdam. None of them resulted in bans.
