To think Sainbury's should not be selling this greeting card.

I can't even think of a reason why this card should exist. And I was amazed to see it being sold in Sainsbury's of all places.

The grandad comments are surprising.

In fact it’s actually my Dad that was guiltier of spoiling my DC more. My mum seemed to recognise that maybe some days toddlers could have TOO many smarties. And my grandad was the same with me.

In DHs case it’s his mum who’s the sweetie person, but on my side of the family it’s more the men.

My grandad was the kindest, gentlest man. Nearly died twice in the war, so the idea of his grandkids having too much of anything just wasn’t even in his radar to be an issue.

My dad just got sheer joy from making my DC happy. Which was sweet as he was pretty strict with me, but seemingly never left a supermarket without something for DC. He or my mum were forever texting “we’ve bought DC a present” or “found an EVEN BIGGER tube of smarties”

While I think the card is pretty naff, I’m very grateful to live in a world where my immediate reaction to it is that it’s about kids getting too many sweets.

Why in particularly ‘of all places sainsburys’?As opposed to Tesco or Waitrose?

Surely if the card was in Waitrose it would be “Whatever happens at Grandmothers, stays at Grandmothers”.

YourBrickTiger · 16/10/2025 15:39

Why? Some of us don't have ANY family, and I mean ANY family. My pets are my world. My parents are dead, I have no kids and my brother isn't speaking to me. I'm more disturbed that people find the need to be so judgemental of us 😢

It is no more unreasonable than sending cards to or from one year old children; dogs will have more grasp of the transaction if only at an emotional level, and it is largely for the adults. Same applies to infant baptism for that matter.

That’s more like it.

Would they sell a card saying "What happens at Grandad's, stays at Grandad's"?

Weird that that’s where your —dirty— mind went, rather than as everyone else is saying, a light hearted joke about grandparents spoiling children. Think this is your issue to deal with. Confused

TypeyMcTypeface · 16/10/2025 16:11

It's pretty tacky but can't see any other issue with it.

FastFood · 16/10/2025 16:12

Oh boy who has that sort of time and brain space to be all worked up about a jokey card?

What do you think will happen? 15 years later the kid will be facing a jury in court and their line of defence will be "when I was 7 I received a card saying I shouldn't say anything about the treats Grandma gave me and since then I haven't been the same"?

It isn’t that expensive - its £3.99 at Amazon!

No because the joke wouldn't be relevant.

Its not a 'thing' that grandfathers are known to give their grandchildren chocolates, sweets and spoil them rotten given half a chance so it wouldn't be funny. People would go eh? What does that mean? Whereas with grandma people go oh haha yes my granny always used to fill me full of sugar then wave me off too. Hehe.

Its a shame that grandads aren't generally seen as the spoilers of children in the same way grandmas are but what can you do?

Yes it is. My grandad used to give us sweets. Of course grandads ‘spoil’ grandchildren as well as the grandmas.

Everyone in my family gets one daft christmas present from the cat, and he often manages to sign his name and put a miniature paw print on birthday and christmas cards.

I did have an elderly aunt who was worried that her neighbour's dog would be upset if he didn't get the christmas present from her on christmas day because she was going to be away. 🙄

I have never bought Christmas presents for my pets (but this year I have decided that all family pets will get something) but I have never liked to not have them with me for Christmas dinner, they're part of the family really. I don't mind leaving my dog with a friend on a normal day but certainly NOT on Christmas.
And yes, my dog has a Christmas jumper.

Omg. Unclench a little . Think most reasonable people would take that in the spirit it was intended .

Comeonbabylightmyfire · 16/10/2025 16:26

You wouldn’t get this type of nonsense in Morrisons.

You wouldn't get the apostrophes, for a start.

TangyJellyTot · 16/10/2025 16:32

As someone who suffered SA from a family member, I don’t bat an eyelid at this.

Scabber · 16/10/2025 16:33

I sadly couldn't have children but know my Dad would definitely be an amazing, fun Grandpa. He'd be sneaking them treats 😊.

My Granny would give me £1 with a 'shhh don't tell your mum' For me it was a precious part of childhood :)

momtoboys · 16/10/2025 16:34

This has to be a wind up, right? Who would possibly have time to take a picture of a card in a shop and then post such ridiculousness?

Surely Santa Paws brings them a stocking!

Well perhaps they should. Perhaps we need to stop looking for offence or leaping to 'SAFEGUARDING'!!!!!!!!!!!!! Every time anything is discussed or thought about.

Neemie · 16/10/2025 16:36

If Grandma is an abuser then this card is the least of your worries.

It is a 'thing' completely

And back in my day I would have a little bit of pipe. Obviously not recommended these days

Clan. Lovely smell.
