I can't even think of a reason why this card should exist. And I was amazed to see it being sold in Sainsbury's of all places.

What was the message inside?

VeterinaryCareAssistant · 16/10/2025 14:16

It's just a joke, probably about the sweets, junk food and late bedtimes kids get at their grandma's that their parents wouldn't approve of.

Tillow4ever · 16/10/2025 14:16

It’s clearly lighthearted referring to grandma letting the kid get away with things they wouldn’t at home (eg pudding without finishing dinner, staying up late, watching tv longer than usual, etc).

Didshejustsaythatoutloud · 16/10/2025 14:16

Nah, I'm more disturbed that people buy actual cards for their pets 😂

Catchee · 16/10/2025 14:16

We say that in my family. My mum spoils my kids something awful. That is why we say it. I dont want to know they have been eating pizza and set up a zip rope in the hall, or that one of them was sick on the cat. As long as they come back in one piece, all good. Nothing sinister.

despairofbadscience · 16/10/2025 14:16

It’s lighthearted. I don’t get the angst

ninjahamster · 16/10/2025 14:17

What’s your issue with it?

AphroditesSeashell · 16/10/2025 14:17

You are the problem here, OP. Why does your mind automatically leap to inappropriate things?

AllYoursBabooshkaBabooshkaBabooshkaYaYa · 16/10/2025 14:17

Absolutely horrific.

Email the CEO of Sainsburys immediately.

I can't believe they would sell a card with a joke on it. Disgusting.

Can you copy us all in on that email

Maray1967 · 16/10/2025 14:18

Surely it’s about grandparents spoiling their grandchildren? Staying up late, too much ice cream etc.

Are you talking about the incorrect ascenders and descenders in that script, OP?!

Terrible example for children...

Radiatorvalves · 16/10/2025 14:21

Is it worse that the cards about people getting completely pissed? Or about how your boobs might be touching your toes? Humour means different things to different people.

BruisedNeckMeat · 16/10/2025 14:22

What?

surreygirly · 16/10/2025 14:23

Why not????

OonaStubbs · 16/10/2025 14:24

Would they sell a card saying "What happens at Grandad's, stays at Grandad's"?

The problem is yours.

purplecorkheart · 16/10/2025 14:26

I am curios on what occasion would you send that card. Is it a birthday card to Grandma or is a invite Grandma sends to her Grandchildren?? I see no reason to be offended by it. Just means Grandma gives the grandchild things/sweets etc that their parents don't allow.

Marble10 · 16/10/2025 14:27

Why in particularly ‘of all places sainsburys’?As opposed to Tesco or Waitrose?

AgentPidge · 16/10/2025 14:29

You're suggesting that the child is being encouraged to lie? In which case, YANBU. But I don't think it's saying that - it's just the extra sweets etc that everyone has mentioned. But it's a fine line. If the child was asked directly about what they'd eaten/done at Grandma's, they shouldn't feel they have to lie in order to protect Grandma from their parents' wrath.

If a joke about spoiling grandkids makes your mind immediately go somewhere horrific, you need some serious help.

And random capital A's in the middle of lower case words? Absolutely shocking.

AgentPidge · 16/10/2025 14:31

The random capitals are pretty horrific.

Are you annoyed by the seeming sexism of them only saying Grandma's; the implicit suggestion that (unless they also provide a Granddad's) they wouldn't say that to Granddads; the idea that kids shouldn't have secrets from parents; the correct observation that men commit vast majority of sex crimes; or is it the incorrect ascenders and descenders?!

HansHolbein · 16/10/2025 14:32

Relax.
