Royal protection is quite cushy .... I think that's all you really need to know.
Would you risk a cushy spot for rocking the boat ? Especially when you were explicitly told before starting that "the most important part of the job is discretion" (nudge-nudge).
The quid pro quo should be you should stop your charge getting into "scapes".
This does raise more questions that I am sure could prove awkward if they were ever allowed to be asked:

Did the protection officers know what Andy was up to ? In which case how does aiding and abetting a criminal offence square with their duty as police officers first ?

Did the protection officers not know anything about Andys hobbies ? In which case how would they spot a 40-tonne HGV heading straight for him, such is the poorness of their vision ?
I suspect this may be why the Met has dived in ....
