They’ve got millions . Make them pay some of those millions to a women’s charity.

BBC STORY:

A charity run organised by the East London Mosque Trust has excluded women and girls aged 13 and over from taking part.
The Muslim Charity Run, which was held in Victoria Park in Tower Hamlets on Sunday, said on its website: "Our inclusive atmosphere ensures that every individual, from the youngest to the oldest, can take part and make a difference."
It added: "This is open to men, boys of all ages and girls under 12, but everyone is welcome at the park to cheer on the runners."

'Inclusive' Muslim Charity Run bans women and teenage girls - BBC News

The Muslim Charity Run says its "inclusive" race is open to men, boys - and girls under 12.

Why?

Plenty of charities exist that exclude certain groups / only focus on some groups.

Do you want an end to all of them?

SadOldLadyOfTheLowlands · 13/10/2025 16:49

I believe this one is because it EXCLUDES a single group - women over 12.

So? What’s the difference between excluding 1 group vs. 10?

CraftyNavySeal · 13/10/2025 16:56

Presumably you want to ban women only runs as well then?

As a fat woman who hates exercise, I welcome this approach.

There's a 1,000 post thread on this, on Feminism Chat.

Interesting that the (very short) article on the BBC website says that females of 13 and over are barred from the event. In fact its females over 12. Although I'm very surprised the BBC covered this at all as it doesn't fit with their cosy view of the world.

Do you really need to ask? Have you not heard of the equality act? Read it and it'll tell you why this event is all types of wrong.

JHound · 13/10/2025 17:06

I remember Tommy Ten Names shared a screenshot with his followers on Twitter taking issue with a domestic violence hotline specifically for black and minority ethnic women.

I guess that should be closed down too.

What “cosy world view” where we have a million charity events that exclude / are focused on certain groups.

But this is specifically excluding females 12 and over. All males and females under 12 can run.

Did the hotline also take calls from boys until age 12 but not above?

Gosh, you're really not getting are you? How on earth is your example in any way comparable to a MIXED all ages event but one which specifically excludes GIRLS over the age of 12? Boys of ANY age are obviously welcome.

If you need that explaining, well not sure I can help you.

Its ok to have one group allowed.
Its not ok to have one group excluded - and especially when its Women.
(edit - its ok to have adults only, or children only)

That's not what is happening here.

The Equality Act permits groups and organisations for people who share a protected characteristic, excluding all people who do not share that protected characteristic.

What it doesn't permit is a race in which women over the age of 12 are excluded. Because men and boys don't share a protected characteristic with girls under 12.

Females over 12 and females 13 and over is the exact same thing.

ELO10538 · 13/10/2025 17:22

I assume by "sued" you mean "prosecuted".
If you feel that strongly, make a complaint to the Charity Commissioners and the Police rather than post on MN.

TigerRag · 13/10/2025 17:23

I took part in a women only running event last year. Should that be banned too?

IIRC The equality act allows you to target services for a specific group for the purpose of addressing the need of particular community or to correct a disadvantage or under representation. Males are not under represented as runners.

5MinuteArgument · 13/10/2025 17:24

In the mosque's own wording a 12 year old girl would be barred from the race as it says only girls UNDER 12 are allowed.

In the BBC version a 12 year old girl would be able to participate as they say girls of 13 and over are barred.

Yours is another frightening example of how people don't understand the equality act 2010. Do you not understand the difference between your women only running event and this one?
