Where have the houmous lids gone??

Has anyone else noticed that some supermarkets have stopped including the plastic lid on houmous tubs, meaning that once you’ve removed the seal, it’s just footloose and fancy free if you don’t happen to finish it all in one go??

I take a tub in the car for DC to have with breadsticks on the way back from school or often include it in picnics. We usually don’t use it all in one sitting (and definitely not when it’s part of the aforementioned after school snack), but now there’s no way of nicely covering it back up so it stays fresh and doesn’t end up smeared all over my car’s upholstery

I noticed Sainsbury’s were first to let it go, and now Asda. Anyone else mildly irritated by this?!

YABU - it’s better this way
YANBU - bring back the houmous lid

Morrisons still has the normal lid.

Cosycoffees · 15/10/2025 20:23

Yes, we found this too. So annoying. Morrisons still do the lids though. We now save the lids and use them for other brand hummus and yoghurts.

It's to reduce plastic waste but then requires us to use a tonne of cling film so increases plastic waste .

Makes no sense at all

Same as blooming vaccume pack mince

Reduce plastic waste raise stress levels as it cooks and looks like cat food

You can buy some silicone lids, I bought one for 1.20 or something and it worked well on a tub of dip.

FurForksSake · 17/10/2025 09:02

I have no issue with vacuum packed mince, gousto have used it for ages and you just break it up as it cooks. Honestly can’t tell a difference when it’s cooked.

Yoghurts we’ve all coped with without a secondary lid. The issue comes when it is something you want to eat over multiple sittings.

I’ve started buying smaller Greek yoghurt as was fed up with the lids fiasco and I need to buy some more silicone ones.
Its a bit like the compostable bags you need for food waste now in the food caddies, it’s all extra money to find for these things though

Where have the houmous lids gone??

I read this as where have the humorous lidls gone.

the80sweregreat · 17/10/2025 09:40

Not much humorous about our local Lidl ! It’s mostly people fighting to get to the middle aisles!

Sennelier1 · 17/10/2025 13:39

I have some silicone lids (flat, not fitted) and I simply lay those over anything that needs a temporary cover - also over a cup with leftovers or soup. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Foil works ok too. I can’t get in with clingfilm. That stuff is the devils work and I need a decent cling film do dah , but cba to ‘ source ‘ one ‘

CrispySquid · 17/10/2025 18:30

No lid is a pain in the ass. I get they want to reduce plastic waste but the lid is such a significant part of the product if you don’t use it all in one go or want to transport it after eating that it seems daft to get rid of it!

PrimalLass · 17/10/2025 18:41

Just put the pot inside a lock lock. Job done.

HauntedBungalow · 17/10/2025 20:52

What is a lock lock? Is it something I need to buy and then keep clean ie is this going to cost me money and time?
