Jodie Turner-Smith Graham Norton

Just watched the Graham Norton show with Jodie Turner-Smith AIBU or was she utterly obnoxious? Every single move she made was the sickly sweet looking at the camera for attention. Whenever any other celebrity has the spotlight she interjected and tried to bring the attention back to her. Her whole time on the show was pathetic acting for attention and extremely false.

Did anyone else see this or AIBU?

Agreed about both Jodie and Taylor.

And even if people thought Joe flicked her hair or looked at the camera, wouldn't nervousness be more likely, given she spoke much less than the others?

I just posted about this before I read your post. So glad that I am not the only one who didn’t see what op saw. Jodie barely said a word or got asked any interesting questions. I too only tuned in because of comments on here and was disappointed.

But Anok Yai is stunning, and I just don't "get" Jodie as being vaunted as gorgeous in that way?

Possibly she looks better moving, I've only ever seen stills of her resting face, which like JK Rowling, is unfortunately "resting smug face".

how the fuck did jk Rowling get brought into this?

Friendlyfart · 20/10/2025 00:03

Never heard of her

You are welcome. It is simply the only suitable response for bad faith, tiresome accusations of racism. Either that or just ignore but I made the effort and gave you a 💤

I wonder why you felt the gesture was necessary. Why didn’t you just scroll on by?

Who?

I'm thinking the same. I'll have to check her outGrin

PoliteSquid · 19/10/2025 22:40

Exactly this “oh I was at that party too, we’re SUCH good mates all us famous people” She physically leant over another guest and turned her back on another when he spoke.

Swift name-dropped too. In fact I think she started it saying they met at a party. Jodie said it was Madonna’s party then Swift corrected her and said it was Beyoncé’s. That was one of the most interesting moments in The whole chat. I had this image of all these celebs Hanging out and feeling free to be themselves and be ordinary. I would love to be there. Swift said the gossip at the party was fantastic and I longed to know what it was because I love boiling hot celeb tea. But then she said she was so drunk she forgot it.

littleblackdress26 · 20/10/2025 00:22

Hmmm

Raquelos · 20/10/2025 00:31

Well, I'll be honest, I didn't know who she was, but I found her a pretty good guest, along with Greta Lee. I did think that the movie they were pimping looked shit, though.

She might have been high or she might have been nervous or just laying it on for the show, but most of what she said landed for me, so I didn't really care. It must be hard to be on the same couch as Taylor Swift and Cillian Murphy and she and Greta Lee did well to hold their own and were amusing and engaging when they had their bit.

I definitely didn't think she was excruciatingly "look at me" in the way the OP describes, though. I thought it was a pretty good group of people who interacted with each other and enhanced each other's appearances. Again, not easy to do with a megastar on, simply because they will have been aware that most of the audience really only wanted to hear Taylor Swift interviewed.

I do find the most beautiful woman in the world comments a bit strange, though. She's definitely beautiful, but I wouldn't rate her above many other women in the same line of work (which is to say many times more beautiful than your average human being).

Audiprettier · 20/10/2025 00:53

InNewYorkNoShoes · 19/10/2025 08:48

That’s so gross. No matter how beautiful you are you shouldn’t ever ask anyone this. She sounds hideous.

Apparently an audience member accused her of asking an (in the paper) inappropriate question to Taylor Swift!
Just nipping over to You Tube as I missed this one!

stanleycups · 20/10/2025 00:54

I do think she was a bit off at times, but that’s mainly because I remember the previous time she was on and she was absolutely fine then and told funny stories. I think it was just an awkward set up, with the three women who were basically ready for a good old gossip and night out, sat with Cillian Murphy who’s much more introverted on these things and Domhnall Gleeson on the end.

There’s plenty of memes on the internet about Cillian Murphy looking bored with Taylor Swift, when that’s just his facial expression I think.

Trendyname · 20/10/2025 00:54

IHate · 13/10/2025 00:06

She is so beautiful that she can literally do whatever she wants, as far as I’m concerned. Ridiculously stunning woman.

Nobody is that beautiful that they get free pass to do whatever they want.

HughGrantsfurrysquirrel · 20/10/2025 01:07

The only stunning one was Cillian and his amazing blue eyes!
Being stunning, and being sexy, are different things people! Whoever that broad was she was coming across like a bucket of plankton. Might look good atop my Christmas tree though!!

If simply being frightfully stunning permits one to behave in any way they wish, then by jove I should be out there running amok😆😁🙃🤣

PinkMagpie · 20/10/2025 01:56

Weighing in with my opinion which is the correct and definitive one:

Anok Yai is a stunningly beautiful - an otherworldly level of beauty. That is why she is such a successful model

Jodie is gorgeous but not on that level of incredible beauty. She is an actor not a model so she doesn’t need to be as beautiful as Anok. Anok probably can’t act as well as Jodie.

Jodie was a bit weird on Graham Norton. Actors do tend to be a bit batshit crazy so that might explain it

PinkMagpie · 20/10/2025 01:58

I’m white for context

teacupzs · 20/10/2025 02:04

She came across as very affected but it could be nerves.

teacupzs · 20/10/2025 02:09

From what I’ve seen, Margot Robbie knows how to behave and it would be hard to find someone more beautiful than her.

Margot is very attractive but her "ahh shucks", "gee how did I end up in Hollywood" self deprecating act gets on my nerves. She is incredibly ambitious, strategic & very PR savvy. I don't know why she has to downplay this.

I have already stated the correct and definitive opinion so this is redundant - imho.

Fair enough - I was weighing in to echo the correct and definitive opinion

Also, if Jodie was pissed on Graham Norton she would be following in a long and noble tradition. That is why GN is fun to watch

Friedshed · 19/10/2025 22:48

There's also a particular sort that objectify someone who is beautiful and black, it is the converse to what you're speaking of but the root is the same.

The compliments are just that bit too over the top, there is this sense of othering and objectification. Yes you may have called her beautiful but the way in which you've said it makes me feel like you would have said "she's so exotic!" 15 years ago.

This! As well as a few who do it knowing that the exaggerated compliments are likely to provoke disagreement/attempts to balance, which they can then pounce on and declare as racism.

Sequinsoneverythingplease · 20/10/2025 05:59

VivienneDelacroix · 19/10/2025 23:54

It wasn't, but they're seems to be a new thing on mumsnet where if racism or bias is pointed out posters will try to denigrate it by pretending they are oh so bored of being accused of racism and act like it's a tired old accusation that is beneath them even engaging with. It's a trick used by men against women pointing out sexism, which some women have now seized on and used it to belittle any discussion about racism.

If you're tired of being accused of racism perhaps there's a reason.

You’re not “pointing out” racism though. You’re accusing posters of it based on your own chosen recently popular ideological belief systems around race. The only time you’re going to get your preferred quiet, frightened acceptance of your accusations these days is if the person you’re accusing still subscribes to those ideas too. I’m afraid most people don’t now and they’re not afraid to say so. The moment has passed. Certain MNetters are hanging onto them with a death grip though, as this behaviour has, after all, been so profitable for them in controlling conversations in the past:

Coolasfeck · 20/10/2025 06:13

Haven’t logged on for a while, read strange OP, remember why I barely log into MN these days and log back off.

Used to challenge these nonsensical OPs but MN doesn’t seem to care their website is being overrun by bad faith posters so why am I wasting my time trying to help keep their site attractive to advertisers? It will eventually end up the same as Twitter.

I watched it and the only thing that stuck out for me, was how different TS looked, I didnt notice her being rude or attention seeking

I thought TS looked exactly as I remember her, natural, pretty and completely normal looking

AzureCats · 20/10/2025 10:05

@ConnieHeart her eyebrows are unfortunately frozen with botox. I found it off putting. I find it really sad the pressure women are under to basically stay at age 25. 😔

I do find it funny that Lewis Capaldi came on the show in a hoodie, dropped the F bomb and C*nt within 30 seconds of sitting on the sofa but mumsnet are obviously clutching their pearls at an unknown actress basically being a bit too drunk, awkward and mostly quiet.
Fwiw I love Lewis' tongue in cheek approach but it's tedious at how much women and men are judged so differently.
