Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

Because you are trying to make it like the delivery guy spent 10mn brutally trying to open your door and sending the whole house shaking 😂

It's not impossible, but is it likely an Amazon driver in a rush spends that much time trying to make a delivery?

You feel vulnerable and scared, fair enough, so your immediate reaction is to unlock the front door and start having an argument in your dressing gown on your doorstep 😂

No, makes total sense.

Yes and shall I tell you why I did?
Because once I realised it was an Amazon delivery guy trying to enter my house without permission, I was absolutely furious.
And because I can stand up for myself, I decided to give him a proper earful for his audacity.
And because I hate that men think they can try to subjugate women by being aggressive (which he was) I argued back.
And I certainly don’t apologise for that.

My postman does that with all my parcels, saves me running to the door.

Doesn't bother me.

DreamyTealGuide · 11/10/2025 20:24

what difference does it make if door is not locked BUT latch is on and the door can't be opened anyway?

Genuine question, he couldn't open the door and come in either way. So why are you so precious about your latch?

I can’t be bothered to answer your questions when you clearly can’t be bothered to read the post properly.

Nope, no porch, just a front door.

I've had this happen and it was really unnerving. He parks the van directly on our drive (instead of in the cul de sac like all the others) and then just tried the door. This has happened twice. Luckily both times it was locked otherwise our dog would have lost it at him. So really not a good idea regardless but it's incredibly intrusive and just completely wrong. Likes yours - it's very very clear it is not a porch, and just a front door.

I have read, you keep banging about the door not locked but THE LATCH

So I am reasonably wondering what the difference is. He didn't open the door, did he?

It's fine, but it goes against your description of being frightened and vulnerable poor little woman you

You can't have it both ways.

Make yourself a cup of tea and calm yourself down.

I’ll be emailing Jeff myself if I don’t get a satisfactory conclusion!
They did seem to take it very seriously.
And I’m like a dog with a bone once I get my back up.

I'd never have guessed!!

Once again.
No not once again, for about the 20th time.
Door wasn’t locked, the latch was on.
Delivery instructions said to leave OUTSIDE the door.
If you are too lazy to read the post properly, please don’t comment!

Perhaps you should read your OWN original post, where YOU said ‘front door/porch’ NOT outside front door. And for goodness sake, lock your front door. What is the point of NOT locking it?

No.
But did you read the bit where he aggressively tried to?
And I was home alone and genuinely thought someone was trying to break into my house?
And I only realised subsequently that it was Amazon?
And that the only reason he couldn’t enter was because my latch was in the correct position?
I honestly don’t know how you find all that confusing.

Tootsiroll · 11/10/2025 20:36

I think your reaction was understandable, if you weren't expecting it and didn't request it then having some stranger open the front door would scare the pants off of me.

In this case I don't think the driver was doing something intentionally wrong, I think he genuinely thought that's what you wanted. He was just very wrong.

In the moment I felt frightened and vulnerable, because I genuinely thought someone I didn’t know was trying to break into my house.
When I realised it was an Amazon delivery driver, I was subsequently fuming.
You are not known for your empathy are you?
Get yourself a cup of tea and think why that may be.
Kindly.
And yes I hope that comes across as patronising as your post is.

The replies on here are absolutely unhinged. Obviously attempting to open someone's front door is not ok! Bonkers

WeeGeeBored · 11/10/2025 20:40

Poor man was just doing his job and you reported him.

LillyPJ · 11/10/2025 20:41

He thought it was a porch. No harm was done. YABU.

henlake7 · 11/10/2025 20:42

If it was very clearly a front door and not a porch then IMO he was bang out of order, you can't just be opening somebodies front door!
What if you had pets who might escape (or bite) or just the fact you are scaring people who think they are being broken in to?

Although it's completely the opposite to my Amazon drivers....mine leave things 'in the front porch' all the time according to their records. Actually my front door opens onto the street so they just dump stuff on the pavement and bugger off!😂

sittingonabeach · 11/10/2025 20:42

So many people complain when parcels are left on the doorstep

Stravaig · 11/10/2025 20:42

So if the latch was on, he can't get in; and you knew the latch was on, and he couldn't get in; and you presumably also knew that you'd ordered something and asked for it to be delivered: so where exactly is the problem. Obviously someone at the door is likely to be your delivery.

Honestly, OP, install a parcel locker outside, or have things send to the post office, that way everyone is guaranteed safe and hassle-free deliveries in future.

Delivery folks, you work incredibly hard, in horribly stressful conditions, for far too little pay. You are seen and greatly appreciated.

sittingonabeach · 11/10/2025 20:44

@henlake7 we have that, if we are not in we get the message the 'parcel has been left in porch' ie our front doorstep

I’d have much preferred left outside in this instance 😂😂😂

Skippingaround · 11/10/2025 20:47

It is not normal in this country for a delivery man to open someone's front door to deliver a parcel. We all know the normal thing to do is ...knock and wait, or ring and wait. And then leave the parcel in a safe place if appropriate . It's not the recipients job to help the Amazon delivery man deliver 1000 parcels a day. His choice. We all know that !
Although this is Mumsnet classic OP don't you think 🥴

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 11/10/2025 20:54

I have just realised that the OP had obviously forgotten that she had ordered something from Amazon. Missed the email that said it would be delivered today, and then decided to sit in her dressing gown with the door unlocked, but with the safety chain on. All pretty normal, no? No 🤣🤣🤣

Happyher · 11/10/2025 20:57

Littletreefrog · 11/10/2025 17:57

If the delivery instructions say front door/porch that would indicate you want him to open the front door and put the parcel just inside. If you don't want delivery drivers to try the door I would change your delivery settings.

If it says front door it definitely doesn’t mean open the door! It means leave the parcel there.

Awww.
Also missed the part where she said she didn’t KNOW it was the Amazon guy aggressively trying to enter her house.
Also missed the memo where I can wear what the fuck I want to in my own house.
But thanks so so much for your supportive message!
The sisterhood eh? Amazing when it actually works 😂
