Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

I wonder if the woeful state of parcel deliveries in general is skewing everyones opinion to think any delivery driver appearing to actually want to get a parcel into a house needs a knighthood! Grin

Obeseandashamed · 11/10/2025 19:56

He clearly thought he was entering a porch considering your delivery instructions say front door/porch. If I read that I would think you wanted me to open a door and leave it inside.

GoldBalonz · 11/10/2025 19:54

I probably looked like a bloody lunatic yelling at him in my dressing gown, but I was just so mad that he aggressively tried to open the door without even knocking!

He was aggressive and 'why not just apologise'? 😆

In your own words you must have looked like a lunatic, yelling at him in your dressing gown. Sounds like he reacted in kind. As if he's going to meekly apologise when you were aggressively ranting at him!

Yes what a dick I am.
Daring to shout at a man trying to enter my house uninvited, whilst I’m home alone.
In my dressing gown as well, the audacity of me to dress as I like at the weekend!
Solidarity sister!

THIS.

I've seen SO many pp on Mumsnet say "Oh, we. ever lock our door, it's really safe round here". Until an opportunist burglar (or worse) tried your open door...

Latch was on.
Hence why he couldn’t get in.
Its ALL in the post.

My delivery instructions are to leave in side shed if door bell rung and not answered.

I had literally just popped to the side of my house and left my front door unlocked for two minutes. When I went back in the Amazon delivery driver was standing in the hallway at the bottom of my stairs! I complained to Amazon, got an apology and assurance that it wouldn’t happen again.

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 20:04

DreamyTealGuide · 11/10/2025 19:52

what do you think he was actually planning on doing?

Other than drop the parcel and rush to the next job...

Your door can't be opened, he didn't come inside, what really is the big deal?
Postmen and delivery guys banging on my door instead of ringing the doorbell do annoy me, but come on, get a grip. No need to be so agitated.

Because I didn’t know it was a delivery driver at the time.
Because I was home alone and genuinely thought someone was trying to break into my house.
Because I immediately felt vulnerable and scared.
Is that really so hard to understand?

DiscoBob · 11/10/2025 20:05

I wouldn't dream of leaving my front door unlocked. You shouldn't have got into a row with him as he clearly wasn't a burglar.

People who are expecting parcels and leave their door unlocked can't get excited when the delivery man opens the door. Just lock it.

HouseOfGoldandBones · 11/10/2025 20:05

I must be getting old, but I can't believe the number of people who think it's acceptable for a delivery driver to come into their home.

Katemax82 · 11/10/2025 20:06

There's this one specific Amazon delivery driver who for some reason walks all the way around my bungalow to deliver a parcel. To get to the back you would have to walk up our driveway where you can see the front porch and the kitchen door which are always open in summer, however I was breastfeeding my baby in August and winding him with my tit out when I looked up to meet the eyes of said Amazon driver at my bedroom window!! He called out something about leaving the parcel at the back door ( he left it in the porch!)

Silvers11 · 11/10/2025 20:07

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 18:25

Poor guy?
My instructions say to leave outside front door.
Once I answered the door, and asked why he tried to enter my property, he immediately became belligerent and said he would report me!
So I have zero sympathy for him.
I am a woman at home, alone, a man trying to force my door open to deliver a package, without even knocking first, you can’t see how incredibly unsettling that is?
And just to reiterate, Amazon have confirmed that delivery people are not allowed to try to open the door.

Well you said originally the instructions were '' leave in Front door/porch ''. so now that you're getting very little support you've changed that to 'leave outside the front door''

Ok Then ..............

gmgnts · 11/10/2025 20:08

Where I live, rurally in the UK, everyone leaves their front door unlocked and postal workers and delivery people usually just open the doors and put the packets inside. Perfectly normal and perfectly acceptable. If you don't want it to happen, just lock your door. What a drama about nothing - and I agree with other posters, poor delivery guy.

Lock your door (why the hell wouldn't you??).
Change your settings.

Realise this is you creating the situation. Not him.

A woman should be able to wear what she wants without a man attempting to enter her without her consent

Oh hold on - it is about a delivery driver.

A woman should be able to sit in her own house without a man attempting to enter it without her consent.

Or is it just up to women to lock themselves or their homes up in case a man decides he wants to come in??? The men have NO responsibility over their own decisions?

Why on earth was your front door not locked? Ridiculous to complain when all the delivery person was trying to do was follow your instructions and leave your parcel safely.

You said in your OP that your instructions said ‘front door/porch’ - so the courier clearly thought you had a porch behind the door. Amazon couriers don’t have time to do anything other than get their parcels delivered in the time allocated.

If you don’t want them to deliver to you personally, use the Amazon lockers or local shop counter service.

Because you are trying to make it like the delivery guy spent 10mn brutally trying to open your door and sending the whole house shaking 😂

It's not impossible, but is it likely an Amazon driver in a rush spends that much time trying to make a delivery?

You feel vulnerable and scared, fair enough, so your immediate reaction is to unlock the front door and start having an argument in your dressing gown on your doorstep 😂

No, makes total sense.

Delivery instructions said to leave OUTSIDE the door.

The same thing happened to me last week. The Amazon swung my front door open and threw the parcel in. My front door is clearly straight into the house with no porch and leads straight into my living room. I was horrified. He’s lucky the dog didn’t get him. I cannot understand why they think it’s ok to open someone’s front door.

I must be getting old, but I can't believe the number of people who think it's acceptable for a delivery driver to come into their home.

Its' not, but then my front door is locked. That helps.

I also doubt a delivery driver would let themselves in, go all the way to the bedroom upstairs, and put the parcel on your pillow.

Even if they do open the front door, they just chuck the parcel and close the door.

They get abuse if they leave a parcel at the door, then it get stolen and it's their fault
they get abuse if they put the parcel in the porch, or inside the home.
Can't win

No he didn't, he tried to deliver a parcel.

Honestly, the hysteria here is ridiculous.

Delivery men are strangers and have no right to access houses.......so yes, a stranger tried to walk in to the OP's house

what difference does it make if door is not locked BUT latch is on and the door can't be opened anyway?

Genuine question, he couldn't open the door and come in either way. So why are you so precious about your latch?

technically, he tried to drop the parcel, nowhere can you assume he tried to walk in and (gasp horror) use the loo without taking his shoes off 😂😂
