Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

It’s your own fault for having front door/porch as your delivery instruction. It gives the impression items are to be left inside. He would expect that he was popping it in the porch . I suggest you change it.

This exact piece of prose has been posted before. I remember it clearly.

Thank you. Thought I was going mad there.

It is not normal in this country for a delivery man to open someone's front door to deliver a parcel. We all know the normal thing to do is ...knock and wait, or ring and wait. And then leave the parcel in a safe place if appropriate . It's not the recipients job to help the Amazon delivery man deliver 1000 parcels a day. His choice. We all know that !
Although this is Mumsnet classic OP don't you think 🥴

Yes absolutely!
If only to highlight that when a woman is home alone, frightened by someone trying to aggressively trying to enter her home, relieved when she realises it’s Amazon, rightly tears a strip off the guy for trying to do so, subsequently is tried to be intimidated by said delivery guy, argues her case vehemently against the delivery guy, posts on MN for solidarity, is attacked for not having her door locked, leaving incorrect delivery instructions, etc etc etc, and all of this done whilst (shock, horror)
WEARING A DRESSING GOWN!!!!
Its a classic for me 😂😂😂😂

These replies are mental! I've never known a postman try to enter my house, definitely not normal

Funny enough my neighbour had the postman walk into her house. He opened the front door and walked into the hall. He said he’d thought it was the door to the stairwell to get to the next floor. She was shocked but it wasn’t nefarious it was a mistake

Petitchat · 11/10/2025 18:38

Another one finding it amusing.
I remember the days when posters (especially women) used to support each other over this type of concern.

I've only read 3 pages but I am shocked at the reactions OP is getting.

Datafan55 · 11/10/2025 21:09

Littletreefrog · 11/10/2025 18:57

If the resident has asked them to via the delivery instructions then yes. We only have OPs word she didn't ask him to via the delivery instructions or maybe she didn't ask him to and he was mistaken but no harm was done as OP is safety conscious and the latch was on. So all in all a mountain out of a molehill.

It's a strange man forcibly trying to open a women's door, so hardly.

She didn’t!! He just claimed she did. What is wrong with the people in this post? Talk about victim blaming.
I actually do leave my door unlocked, that doesn’t give anybody including delivery people the right to open it. The op didn’t have hers open and he was forcibly trying to open it. How is that ok?
Even if he made a mistake, mixed her up with another’s delivery instructions etc, then the least he should have done is apologise, not double down. I hope Amazon do deal with this.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 11/10/2025 21:10

OP, why do you keep saying he ‘aggressively’ tried to open the front door? If he thought he was opening a porch door to leave your parcel safely inside, he wouldn’t have expected to suddenly bash the door against the chain. That is what you heard, and I’m sure it would startle anyone. But, that’s not the couriers fault. If the door had been locked, he almost certainly would have simply knocked or rung a bell.

I wish you would just admit that you have been a bit daft to not lock your door, and then nothing untoward would have happened.

No porch
He didn’t knock
He didn’t ring doorbell
It’s ALL there in the post
Literally all the information you need before you post

Again, I don’t have a porch, he definitely didn’t think it was a porch as it’s quite clearly a front door.
And I definitely don’t need to “chill”, a complete stranger tried to walk into my house, when I’m at home alone.

Grow up! If you aren’t wise enough to have the right delivery settings, then deal with the consequences

I give up! I have read your posts, and I have used YOUR WORDS. Change your settings on Amazon, and lock your front door. Next time it might just be someone who means you harm. (Burglars don’t always knock politely before breaking in).

Meadowlands · 11/10/2025 21:18

YABU. Massive overreaction. Feel sorry for the delivery driver.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 11/10/2025 21:22

And just to add, for good measure, leaving your door unlocked may invalidate your home insurance…….

mapleriver · 11/10/2025 21:22

The same thing happened to me - my instructions were "please leave outside on the step, thankyou!"
My doors are usually locked (not that it's an invitation if they're not) but I forgot to lock it after putting alot of recycling in the bin. It honestly made me very anxious for a couple of months, he had walked 10ft in my kitchen not just put them in the entrance. I complained aswell. I don't want strangers walking around in my house, if a takeaway driver had done it it would be completely unacceptable even if I hadn't answered the door, amazon/package delivery drivers aren't special.

SybTheGeekAgain · 11/10/2025 21:26

I'm just wondering what the responses would be if a guy posted on here that he tried to forcibly open a latched door to a strangers house and was greeted by an very angry woman in a dressing gown. I suppose there would be a lot of "poor you, what was that woman thinking"! 🙄

Datafan55 · 11/10/2025 21:29

DreamyTealGuide · 11/10/2025 20:32

It's fine, but it goes against your description of being frightened and vulnerable poor little woman you

You can't have it both ways.

Make yourself a cup of tea and calm yourself down.

Seriously?
A woman alone with a strange man in her home is vulnerable.
If she hadn't yelled at him, in fright, he might have come in.

But your nice condescending finish really helps.

Empanadilla · 11/10/2025 21:29

I cannot believe some of the replies on here! They must be from people who live in tiny rural villages where maybe it's still ok to leave your door open and people just "pop in"...

Totally understand you being upset/furious about the incident OP. There is NO WAY it's acceptable for anyone to (forcibly) try to open your door. Bearing packages or not. I hope he gets disciplined. Or maybe next time he tries it there'll be a Pitbull on the other side of the door and no latch on 😉

Awww.
Also missed the part where she said she didn’t KNOW it was the Amazon guy aggressively trying to enter her house.
Also missed the memo where I can wear what the fuck I want to in my own house.
But thanks so so much for your supportive message!
The sisterhood eh? Amazing when it actually works 😂

What "sisterhood"? We are not the same, thank you 😂

My front door is locked, yours is not locked but cannot be opened because of the security latch, we are obviously not the same at all😂😂

Where did I miss that he was IN the home?

Where did I miss that he even knew the OP was a woman, or a woman alone? Where did I miss that he had no idea the home owner was anything else than a 6ft tall bouncer 😂

It has. I remember it too.
And the OP was told to lock the fucking door if she didn't want people opening it, then there were endless posts from her about how she didn't see why she should lock the door, people shouldn't be opening it etc.

This might not be the same OP but the thread's still going to go the same way.

MyDeftDuck · 11/10/2025 21:41

Perhaps get your delivery instructions amended on Amazon……..if you specified front door/porch you’re ever likely to get people trying the door thinking it leads to a porch.

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 21:41

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 11/10/2025 21:18

You clearly haven’t
I had a latch on, which is why he couldn’t get in.
The latch is always on, I’m a childminder so do it automatically.
No idea why you are being so aggressive?
Also if you have read my posts, you will see my delivery instructions are to leave outside the front door, if I’m not in.
Which I was.
Which he would have known if he had bothered to knock on the door.
But all of this is completely besides the point of the post, which is that he so aggressively tried to open the door that I thought someone was trying to break in, and obviously I was not aware that it was an Amazon delivery guy.
Please for one second try to put yourself in my shoes, a woman home alone, quietly reading, and suddenly a barrage on her front door.
That wouldn’t have frightened you and upset you?
Because if not, you are a braver woman than me!
