Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 17:50

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

Wow some of these replies are insane!! He didn't knock, he didn't use the doorbell, he just tried to barge in like he owns the place!

Things I've learnt reading this thread: 1/ people do not read all the OPs posts before commenting and if they do, they do not comprehend what's been written. 2/ some people have never lived in a house where you can lock AND latch a door, and it bloody shows. Why would you lock it if the latch is on? That keeps the door secure and you don't have to 'unlock' 2 things to open it if the door goes. Obviously you lock it with the key at night, when going out etc. 3/ people vehemently keep their doors locked but would not be worried by some strange, aggressive man trying to get in...🤣 the mind boggles.

He was in the wrong and his attitude needs changing. I hope Amazon do a thorough investigation.

Blades2 · 12/10/2025 19:05

Another OP asking if they are BU but defending themselves to the hilt when told that yes, they are.

canyouseemyhousefromhere · 12/10/2025 19:07

I’m sorry people are having a go at you OP.
The Amazon driver was in the wrong because he didn’t even knock or ring the doorbell.
No way should he have tried the door if he hadn’t knocked.

I have had several instances of delivery drivers (of all makes) leaving the parcel outside the house in full view or not delivering at all when I am sat waiting for said delivery and being told that there was no answer …. BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T KNOCK/RING!

Poodlelove · 12/10/2025 19:09

I have seen in my area South of England that alot of drivers are doing this , one even opened the door and placed the parcel half way up the stairs.
Some drivers who are not English have told customers that it is acceptable in their country.

Personally i would report him to the police who do take this kind of thing very seriously even if the employers don’t. A neighbour found a delivery person in her kitchen with his hand in her handbag claiming he was delivering a parcel! Same day someone tried to open my front door but it was locked and when I went out and asked them what they were doing and they said delivering my parcel I said well where is it and they didn’t actually have one!

Thanks for this warning. Much appreciated.

And fortunately in OP's case, the employers ARE taking it seriously.

Retiredfromearlyyears · 12/10/2025 19:14

Keep your front door locked! You make yourself vulnerable when you leave it unlocked.

Petitchat · 12/10/2025 19:17

Strumpetpumpet · 12/10/2025 13:04

Don’t shop at Amazon It’s not that hard to avoid, I manage it quite easily.
(I know that’s totally missing your point but it would prevent this happening again…)

So we shouldn't use any service that makes mistakes?
Wouldn't be many places left to use, would there....

This exact piece of prose has been posted before. I remember it clearly.

It may have been my post, where the exact same thing happened.

Ignore the idiots on here @Ilovemychocolate. I live in a block of flats, the Amazon driver got into the building, he didn't even attempt to use my Ring doorbell on my front door, just tried to open it and walk into my flat. I have very clear delivery instructions on all my orders, stating that delivery drivers need to use the Ring doorbell and wait for my answer. I find it quite amazing how many delivery staff Amazon employ who can't read...

When I posted the above on here, I got blamed too. Luckily the Police didn't feel the same way when I reported it to them.

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 18:01

Again, I don’t have a porch, he definitely didn’t think it was a porch as it’s quite clearly a front door.
And I definitely don’t need to “chill”, a complete stranger tried to walk into my house, when I’m at home alone.

So lock your door!! 🤦🏻‍♀️

CockysGirl · 12/10/2025 20:04

Why not have the additional security of locking your door as well as having the latch on when you are home alone?
The delivery man shouldn't have tried your door and I appreciate how scary that must have been for you (and I would have reported him too) but if someone really wanted to break in then locking it as well offers you more protection. Sorry you are getting so much grief 😘

proseccoprincess612 · 12/10/2025 20:05

I don’t think you’re being unreasonable, I’m assuming he hadn’t knocked or rang your bell If you have one, prior to trying to enter your house?? Very bizarre behaviour and even more bizarre that he’s going to report you x

Jade3450 · 12/10/2025 20:22

DavidKeanu · 11/10/2025 18:04

You can't leave the door unlocked AND complain when someone comes through it 🤣

Can I wear a sexy outfit and complain that men harass me?

I absolutely can.

And you absolutely can complain that someone comes in. It’s your HOUSE.

And the reason people remember it is because it has been posted about before, because it’s happening to more and more people.

On the other thread people had the same response - that if your door is unlocked it’s perfectly fine for anyone to come in. Which it’s clearly not.

I was on a work call once and an Amazon delivery man opened my front door and put the parcel down. Totally, totally unacceptable.

Jade3450 · 12/10/2025 20:24

This is victim blaming.

Give over. There were instructions indicating there was a porch, so he opened the door to leave it in the porch (could have been a vestibule for all he knew, if we're getting into technical terminology of porches). A delivery driver tried delivering something as per instructions. She wasn't a "victim" of anything.

Except OP has expressly said that it’s really clear it’s NOT a porch. Same with mine - it’s really obvious it goes into a hallway, yet the driver let himself in.

How can you say she’s not a victim??

I think you’re being unreasonable. If setting is front door/porch, he may have thought he could leave just inside. Lots of people have a main front door and then a second one just inside.

There weren’t .
its a generic setting, leave outside door/porch.
There is no porch.

YABU. your settings are incorrect. You literally told him to leave it inside the front door.
Change to leave on doorstep ifvggats where you want it.

Omg
Read the post!
Instructions were leave OUTSIDE the door!

I think this is a communication issue. He thought he was delivering into a porch but it turned out he wasn’t. You shouting at him hardly helped.

Probably not helped by the fact that English may not have been his first language as per many amazon
drivers and the fact that the OP had left her delivery instructions on the default setting, which is door/porch. 🤦‍♀️

eastegg · 12/10/2025 22:35

Some of these responses are absolutely unreal. Almost unfair to pick on this one but I am because I can’t quote all the nonsense there’s so many.

The setting she left it on was leave outside door/porch. Outside. OP has stated that countless times. And you’re blaming her for not changing that to say there’s no porch? Why on earth should she do that? It’s completely irrelevant, as the instruction was to leave outside.
