Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

OP, if it made you uncomfortable, then you need to lock your door. It is unfortunate that you don't have a porch.

I live in a village in a rural area, and the drivers will often open doors and leave in porches. I would rather they do that than not get the parcel. They also have to take photos of where they leave it.

One driver told me that they get fined £25 if they don't take 2 photos, one of parcel in front of door and one of parcel with person, or where left.

NoKnit · 12/10/2025 14:51

He thought it was a porch.

For goodness sake calm down he's just doing his (pretty shitty paid and probably unsatisfactory) job.

Bare in mind if he's driving for amazon he quite probably didn't grow up in the UK and the sorts of housing we have. A porch is probably a totally new thing to him. He's probably been told off before by someone else for not leaving stuff in the porch.

Your absolutely need to chill

Skippingaround · 12/10/2025 14:52

What is so strange about the amount of responses on here towards the OP being some kind of dramatic hyperventilater 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ is the fact that Royal Mail never make this mistake! It's not okay because it's an Amazon delivery driver it's actually really fucking weird for a stranger to pop your parcel inside your house-its not normal. I was shocked when it happened to me !
I know a couple of Amazon delivery drivers the more they deliver the more they get paid however....it is by their choice the amount of deliveries they take on.
It is not the burden of the recipient to help Amazon delivery drivers with this. If it's a newish trend not everyone has to be bloody happy with it. It's got nothing to do with locking your door that is actually not the point.
DELIVERY DRIVERS SHOULD NOT BE TRYING YOUR FRONT DOOR we all know this 🙄 plus not being funny but if they don't want to be disciplined or sacked from their job....then guess they should stop opening front doors ! That is on them not the OP 😊

Nearly50omg · 12/10/2025 15:03

Personally i would report him to the police who do take this kind of thing very seriously even if the employers don’t. A neighbour found a delivery person in her kitchen with his hand in her handbag claiming he was delivering a parcel! Same day someone tried to open my front door but it was locked and when I went out and asked them what they were doing and they said delivering my parcel I said well where is it and they didn’t actually have one!

At our place of work , we have many deliveries, from many different companies.
Some better than others, but they only have a 3 or 4 minute drop off time - the expectation from their companies must be awful.
We also have a daily delivery from the Royal Mail. A bit back they had some changes , which meant less time , and people (cost cutting) and now Royal Mail are just drop and run…. It’s not a job I’d want , so I’d cut them some slack.

Petitchat · 12/10/2025 14:14

I must be "a meek little snow flake who would be intimidated" by someone trying to open my front door then!
Thanks for that.

Also, did you miss the bit where Amazon decided he shouldn't have done that?
Why are posters blaming OP for Amazon's decision?

You’re not meek at all.
And Amazon are just giving you lip service
If the delivery fork didn’t have such tight dead lines, they’d not be rushing around like loons , and be able to do a better job.
But time is money and everyone want home delivery as cheap as possible.

I have no intention of reporting to the police, I have raised a complaint as I wouldn’t like him to scare anyone else the way he did me, but he was obviously a delivery driver.
I don’t want him to lose his job, I just want him to realise that trying to open someone’s door is not acceptable, especially when he didn’t even knock first!

If you’re that concerned about being home alone……lock your door?

The delivery man doesn’t have time to check floor plans of houses so change your settings to front door/back door etc. He probably thought he’d be walking into a porch. Just because you know there’s no porch it doesn’t mean he does.

amicisimma · 12/10/2025 15:49

The delivery guy is doing hundreds of deliveries. He sees on yours 'front door/porch', arrives to find no porch, so goes for the front door. He's probably already got his mind on the next place he's going, so not carefully analysing what 'front door' may or may not mean on this occasion. Lots of people are quite happy for deliveries to be popped inside the front door.

Presumably you knew you had a delivery coming, so it wasn't a complete surprise that someone appeared at your front door.

Simple solution if you don't want anyone to open the door: lock it. As many of us do.

Read the post.
My latch was on.

If the settings include porch why would he knock? They have to deliver and go but you want him to knock on every porch and wait how long until they can enter the porch listed on the delivery settings?

You just like being difficult.

They manage it perfectly fine round here.

Knock
Wait 10 seconds (max)
Person opens door
If not it gets left with a neighbour/behind a bin/launched over the back gate.

Some of them even have 1 second spare to say "youre welcome" when you thank them.

People acting like these drivers are delivering blood for real-time heart surgery and simply have to just barge into peoples homes....behave yerselves 🤣

BakewellGin1 · 12/10/2025 16:39

Havnt read all comments however myself and my neighbours homes look exactly same from outside.
My door opens directly into living room as open plan and neighbour has a small porch area on entering.
From outside you wouldn't know which had the internal porch.
Amazon do open doors as some delivery settings including my Mums say 'leave in porch' so they open door pop it in and close door again.

CurlewKate · 12/10/2025 16:52

What did you think he was going to do? Presumably drop a parcel through the door, shut the door and leave. If you don’t want that to happen, make sure the door is locked.

intrepidpanda · 12/10/2025 17:27

YABU. your settings are incorrect. You literally told him to leave it inside the front door.
Change to leave on doorstep ifvggats where you want it.

MyJobNow · 12/10/2025 17:52

Looking on the bright side - he was delivering to the right address!

SEmyarse · 12/10/2025 17:54

People get VERY annoyed if you knock before leaving things in porches. They've often asked for porch because they're on a work meeting, or there's a baby sleeping, or they're on nights, or they're ill. Believe me you always try to follow additional instructions without disturbing people.

You do get the odd one who will STILL complain - diverted to the garage, which I did, but claimed she wanted me to knock first so she could watch me put it in the garage. You really can't win!!

MammarOfOne · 12/10/2025 18:13

DavidKeanu · 11/10/2025 18:04

You can't leave the door unlocked AND complain when someone comes through it 🤣

You can’t walk around looking nice and expect to not be raped.

same thing.

stop victim blaming, a stranger walked into her house, or at least tried to. I’d be furious too.

Dawnb19 · 12/10/2025 18:16

I don't lock my front door if I know I'm getting a delivery so they can put it inside the front door. There is a bit you can select for them to do this (front door or porch door) or you could select to leave it in a safe place or with a neighbour. For me this is normal. All delivery drivers do it but we do live in a small village in northern Ireland. 🤷

BlueandPinkSwan · 12/10/2025 18:34

Ilovemychocolate · 11/10/2025 18:01

Again, I don’t have a porch, he definitely didn’t think it was a porch as it’s quite clearly a front door.
And I definitely don’t need to “chill”, a complete stranger tried to walk into my house, when I’m at home alone.

Lock the door then, if you don't want someone barging in. Try the phone app for common sense.

Heard of this happening to a few people @now. Check your delivery details on line but if memory serves me correctly you have to choose a 'porch' on each delivery. You're not likely to have done that if you don't have a porch and the section to request an alternative delivery location is on another page so doubtful its a slip of a finger.

CurlewKate · 12/10/2025 18:49

He didn’t “try to come into your house”. He tried to deliver your parcel.

Sunshineonthewater · 12/10/2025 18:50

I had an Amazon driver walk straight into my house! The back door was open because it was summer and we were in and out. He just waltzed in and was well into the hallway when I saw him and told him he shouldn’t be in my house. He said ‘oh I just want to know if this is no. 68’. I said ‘it’s not, please leave’ and basically walked forward so he had to back out. I don’t know if he had any ill intention or was just absolutely clueless. But who thinks an open door is an invitation! My heart was beating really fast and I was very pissed off. I called Amazon immediately and they took it seriously.
