Omg! Amazon driver just tried to come into my house!!!

So I’m sat at home, on my own, reading.
Suddenly my front door is VERY forcibly trying to be opened, it made a huge racket and I immediately thought someone was trying to break in!
The door wasn’t locked, but thankfully I have a child safety latch on the door, which I always use.
I go to the door and can see through the glass it’s an Amazon delivery man.
I open the door, and ask what the hell he is doing, trying to get into my house.
He replies he does it all the time, and it’s my fault as my settings on Amazon say front door/porch.
I am fuming at this point, and tell him it’s totally unacceptable, I’m at home alone, and never have I had someone try to enter my house before to deliver a parcel!
After a few more choice words from me, he gives me the parcel and says he will be reporting ME!
Obviously I immediately reported it to Amazon, who are taking it very seriously.
As I said to them, I’m an assertive person who can stand up for themselves, what if the homeowner had been someone more vulnerable?
So am I being unreasonable to expect that delivery men DONT try to access your property?!

So you are happy for ANYONE to come in your front door? 😂😂😂😂

Of course not - it’s why I lock it. Suggest you do the same, and you wouldn’t have to spend so much time trying to justify why you prefer to leave yours unlocked.

Figcherry · 11/10/2025 18:43

BUT HE THOUGHT THERE WAS!

Yes, why did he think that? Because he has instructions that say “front door/porch” like he said as quoted in the OP?

Someone is lying about the instructions then if it didn’t say porch - the driver who is just trying to do his job as fast as possible or OP who wants something to froth about?

pavillion1 · 11/10/2025 23:03

Aw i actually think he was just trying to follow instructions .. Dont let him lose his job after this .. No harm was done .

The instructions that say leave outside front door you mean?
Its so boring when people leave comments without reading the post properly.

Read the post.
Latch was on.
No need to lock the door as well.
Please don’t post if you can’t be arsed to read the post fully, it’s so annoying.

I can’t believe the replies on this thread! In what world are you all living in thinking it’s ok for delivery drivers to actually open someone’s front door, it’s common sense that if the delivery options say front door/porch then you either leave it outside the front door or in a porch (if you see the house has one) a front door and porch door look completely different.

No they don't in all properties.
In mine the porch looks integrated with the whole house. Royal mail postmen open the door and shout "postman" and leave the parcels inside.

So in plenty of people's "worlds" this happens and almost certainly a daily occurrence for delivery drivers and royal mail.

Really?
So I don’t report him, and he willy nilly tries to open doors?
What if it’s a vulnerable person?
Or someone who has been subjected to violence before?
Or an old person?
Amazon told me today it was absolutely unacceptable what he did, it’s against their policy, I am a very strong person but it freaked me the fuck out, in what universe is it acceptable to try to enter someone’s home without permission?

They think a porch is there?
Despite the evidence of their own eyes?
Despite instructions clearly stating leave outside front door/porch???
Wow what in the Harry Potter is going on here?!

Your own first post said that he read out what his instructions said. And he read out "porch"

And yes its not always obvious that a porch is there or not. Not all porches are fully glass!! Mine is brick with a single window and a normal looking front door.

You simply cannot fathom that the man encounters many different property types daily!! Instead you live in your tiny world where you think your property is the blueprint for all properties!!

I would assume that it was a mistake based on the delivery instructions.
I'm sure he got a fright too.

“Flaky witness”
I love how you are more invested in a delivery driver trying to access a lone woman’s house, rather than a lone woman being intimidated by it.
Go sisterhood 😂😂😂😂

He had no idea who was in the house. I doubt it is that deep.

So it really was that deep.
But thank you so much for trying to minimise my experience.
And I sincerely hope you are never home alone, and hear someone trying to get into your house, and wonder who the fuck it is, and what the fuck they might want.

I can read the DM article already...

I got such a fright when the delivery guy tried to deliver the parcel I was waiting for, I unlocked the door (sorry, UNLATCHED) and went out in my dressing gown shouting at him because I was so frightened.

And he had the cheek to say he was trying to put the parcel in my porch, how dare he, no delivery person would dare being so unreasonable 😂

(yes, we know, you don't have a porch, but the amazon delivery man is a mind reader who should have guessed that, and that there was no men in your house)

You clearly aren't absorbing reality. Many many house have porches behind a front door. Almost every terraced house in the country does for a start. Never mind all the variations of different porches.

No I didn't miss your first post where you relayed what the man read out from his device. A porch.

If Amazon's own terms and conditions didn't allow it then they wouldn't give people the option to have it left in porches/sheds etc. They are just coddling you. The reality is they give their drivers an impossible number of parcels to deliver and limited time to survey properties on arrival.

The next customer would have gone through him for leaving it outside if a porch was mentioned on his device

All you are doing is trying to do it have a man punished for working in a shit system to the rules set by his employer. He wasn't interested in seeing you in your gown. He wanted your parcel delivered to the safest place in the shortest time and quite frankly you are being ridiculous

Awww.
Also missed the part where she said she didn’t KNOW it was the Amazon guy aggressively trying to enter her house.
Also missed the memo where I can wear what the fuck I want to in my own house.
But thanks so so much for your supportive message!
The sisterhood eh? Amazing when it actually works 😂

Why should women always be expected to support another random woman with views completely different to what we believe, just because she’s a woman. That’s not what sisterhood is.

Well, quite clearly you do. So many posters have told you to lock your door, and then this would never have happened. Unfortunately, it would appear that the only opinions you are interested in, are those which state that ‘of course, one should be able to leave one’s door unlocked’.

As you seem so convinced that this is sensible, why not check with the police?

Anyway, I’m off to bed now, so goodnight and sleep well. Don’t forget to lock your door……
